This thesis consists of a discourse and queer theoretical text and image analysis of school books in English used in the Swedish upper secondary school.  The whole content of two school books have been analysed from a norm critical perspective but one chapter in each of them has been analysed more thoroughly than the rest. These two chapters form the major part of the analysis.The thesis? problem formulation and objective derive from a personal experience of being a teacher student and part time teacher in Swedish schools. This experience shows the prevalence of a strong heteronormativity both in the schools? every day life and in the used school books.

This essay focuses on psychoanalytic theory and its relevance for political studies. It especially draws attention to the conceptual toolkit developed by Jacques Lacan and the way that it serves as the starting point for Slavoj Zizek´s approach to the theory of ideology. One important point of this approach is that the power of an ideology is not primarily related to the ideas or worldview it expresses but rather to the enjoyment it provides the subject with. This enjoyment is obscene in the sense that it forms the necessary, but seldom acknowledged, supplement to public values. Fantasy is a major source for this kind of enjoyment.

The aim of this Master?s thesis is to investigate if the reading habits of teacher students are influenced by merit and descent. The empiric material consists of six questionnaires answered by students at the teacher training with Swedish at the upper secondary school as their first topic. The questionnaire comprised questions about reading habits in the childhood and today and information concerning merits and descent.Pierre Bourdieu?s sociological ideas about cultural capital transmitted from parent to child and the concept of habitus are used as a theoretical framework regarding descent.

In the following essay I have read the drama Natten är dagens mor (The Night is the Day's Mother) by Lars Norén. My main focus has been on the older brother Georg. By using post structuralist gender theories I have sought answers to the following two questions: How is Georg's masculinity constructed and maintained, when seen from a gender perspective? What power structures arise between Georg's and the other men's masculinities? In my analysis I have approached Georg via three perspectives. First, I have by the help of Judith Butler's theory concerning gender performative actions tried to define the men's gender codes.

The purpose of this study is to understand and analyze why individuals develop and manage to leave drug abuse. The material consists of interviews with eight individuals who have gone through a life of addiction and managed to change their lifestyle. We contacted the participants through the organization called KRIS (Criminals Redress with Society). The results indicate that the participants have had a troublesome upbringing and been labeled by society as outsiders which have led them into addiction. The results also show that they have all gone through a social conversion from the life as an addict to become sober.

När Sverige blev medlem i dåvarande EG 1995 fick det bland annat följden att EU:s fördrag och lagstiftning skulle implementeras och göras gällande i svensk lag. I många fall har detta skett utan större problem men i vissa frågor har det uppstått skiljaktliga meningar om huruvida den svenska lagstiftningen och förvaltningen lever upp till de regler som EU gemensamt fattat beslut om. Denna uppsats tar fasta på detta fenomen, närmare bestämt på hur EU och Sverige under en lång tid inte kunde nå en samsyn om hur den svenska vargstammen skulle förvaltas. Genom att beskriva de förutsättningar som ledde fram till den svenska licensjakten på varg kommer uppsatsen att försöka förklara vilka preferenser den svenska regeringen utgick ifrån när den försvarade sitt beslut att genomdriva licensjakt på varg trots EU-kommissionens protester..

Uppsatsen är en kvalitativ intervjustudie, med barnperspektiv som metodologisk utgångspunkt. Syftet är att infoga några barns röster, angående vem som stör(s) i det offentliga rummet.Intervjuerna genomfördes våren 2008 i Stockholmsområdet, med ett urval av fyra barn i nioårsåldern. Gruppintervjuerna skedde vid två tillfällen och formen var halvstrukturerad.Olika teorier tillämpas utifrån en problematisering av vuxenmakt, där barnens reflektioner relateras med positioneringar och normer. Teoretiska begrepp från queer- och maskulinitetsteori används för att se till maktdynamiken, mellan barn och vuxna. Det framkommer att de intervjuade barnen använder sig av olika motståndsstrategier, för att handskas med rådande vuxenmakt i det offentliga rummet.

Denna uppsats är en hermeneutisk och queerteoretisk undersökning av fyra prästers uppfattningar om Svenska kyrkans beslut om att viga samkönade par. Materialet är insamlat genom kvalitativa intervjuer. Jag har utgått från frågeställningarna: Vilka ståndpunkter har informanterna i frågorna om vigsel och äktenskap och hur motiverar de dessa? Hur resonerar informanterna kring frågorna om vigsel och äktenskap? Vad anser informanterna om Svenska kyrkans behandling av frågorna om vigsel och äktenskap? Vad tror informanterna att de beslut som kyrkomötet fattade den 22 oktober 2009 beträffande vigsel och äktenskap kommer att leda till? Resultatet visar att skapelseteologi, tradition och heteronorm är centralt för de två informanter som är emot beslutet. De tycker också att kyrkan behandlat frågan illa.

Skolan har ett viktigt demokratiuppdrag i fråga om att arbeta med värderingar och motverka diskriminering i samhället. Skolan arbetar med likabehandlingsplaner som syftar till att skapa en skola där alla behandlas med respekt och på lika villkor. Likabehandlingsarbetet fokuserar mer ofta på faktorer som genus och etnicitet än sexualitet, vilket är en aspekt som ofta förbises. Denna studie har sin utgångspunkt i ett socialkonstruktionistiskt perspektiv och syftet är att undersöka hur lärare konstruerar sexualitet i aspekten likabehandling och hur detta påverkar deras undervisning. Studien har genomförts genom kvalitativa intervjuer och analyserats med hjälp av perspektiv som socialkonstruktionism, queerteori och diskursanalys. Resultatet visar att lärarna skapar en sexualitet som i första hand handlar om identitet och kärlek.

The purpose of this master's thesis is to examine how a Swedish public library's collection of books on African history looks like, who the writers are and how Africa and its history areportrayed. The focus of the analysis is on the front and back covers and in some cases on theinformation texts inside the books. The chosen library is the city library of Umeå. The 15books examined were found on the shelf classified as Kp ? the classification for African history according to the Swedish SAB-classification system.

This paper discusses some concerns about Japanese gender identity as a construct and the subversive means to overthrow it. In my paper I claim that the eastern influences on Japan has created a gap between old and new gender- traditions and norms. This interspace is what the philosopher Judith Butler claims as the site for a possible gender transformation. As Butler claims gender identity to be a construct, I use her methods of understanding and subsequently queertheory, to investigate the construct of Japanese gender identity and also the norms that constitute a national identity. As I elaborate on this theory I use specific artworks from Morimura Yasumasa, Yoshiko Shimada and Bubu de la Madeleine and also the all-male theatre kabuki vs.

We, the authors of this essay are both students at the Bachelor Programme in Social Work at Malmö Högskola. During our education we have been reflecting on the gender perspective that is suppose to permeate the education. This essay aim to examine how some students at the Bachelor Programme in Social Work at Malmö Högskola, who identify themselves as GLBT , experience how questions regarding sex/gender and sexuality are spoken about during their education. We have a discursive perspective on how we understand norms and power of words and language. From a queerteorethic point of view we explain sex/gender and sexuality.

How can we use modern X-ray technology to raise awareness of the information that is hidden in historic upholstery? The materials and techniques add information to the history object in question and  about a profession that is sparsely documented in our country. The knowledge we have today has largely been obtained by studying damaged upholstery, or by removing the show cover and upholstery, a technique which involves high risk of damaging the upholstery. X-ray technology offers  a non- intrusive way to examine historical upholstery.Through case studies, I examined four artefacts. The artefacts went trough an inititial visual exam before being transported to The National Heritage Board in Visby where they underwent a thorough X-ray exam.

The aim of this thesis is to identify and analyse the antagonism between conservation and development which occurs in historical towns.The base of the study is theories in destination development and cultural heritage tourism in historical towns as well as the consequences expressed in these theories concerning conservation and development. The standpoint was that an empiric study needed to complement the theory. This filed study took place in Dubrovnik in Croatia. The thesis identifies the antagonism between conservation and development based on the theoretical research. Moreover the study adds a perspective to the research through the identification of further dimensions of this antagonism.
