This report aims to provide an insight into the particle physics of today, and into the research that goes on within the field. The focus is partly on the recent discovery of the Higgs boson, and partly on how software can be used to simulate processes in particle accelerators. Basic concepts of particle physics and the search for the Higgs boson are discussed, and experimental results, including those from the Large Hadron Collider, are compared with simulations made in MadGraph 5. Furthermore, simple new models of particle physics are created in FeynRules, in order to make simulations based on the models. To support the presentations of these aspects, some of the underlying theory is built from the ground up.

Datorbaserad analys av enzymdesign för Diels-Alder reaktioner
This thesis has been focused around the Diels Alder reaction with the goal to design an enzyme catalyzed reaction pathway. To achieve this goal computer aided enzyme design was utilized. Common traditional methods of computational chemistry (B3LYP, MP2) do not do well when calculating reaction barriers or even reaction energies for the Diels Alder reaction. New calcu- lation methods were developed and tested. This was the focus of the first part of the thesis, by choosing a small system, extensive and heavy calculations could be done with CBS-QB3.
Visualization of Particle In Cell Simulations
A numerical simulation case involving space plasma and the evolution of instabilities that generates very fast electrons, i.e. approximately at half of the speed of light, is used as a test bed for scientific visualisation techniques. A visualisation system was developed to provide interactive real-time animation and visualisation of the simulation results. The work focuses on two themes and the integration of them. The first theme is the storage and management of the large data sets produced.

Fysikdiskursen på Komvux : Betydelsen av student-lärarinteraktioner
This study draws upon the framework for analyzing the discourse of a science classroom introduced by Mortimer and Scott (2003). It has been used for many studies before on high school youths, but never on adults. Therefore, this study focuses on the interaction between teacher and students in an adult education on high school level in physics, and how students can change the classroom discourse. Observations took place in two different schools for adults, in four different teaching groups. The result was analyzed by pattern of interactions, communicative approach, teaching purpose, type of student questions and their effect on the classroom discourse.

Modeller för ljus : En jämförelse mellan svenska och engelska läroböcker
Denna rapport ämnar att jämföra hur ljusets olika modeller behandlas de svenska läroböckerna Ergo Fysik A och Ergo FysikB jämfört med den engelska kursboken Advancing Physics AS.Det som framkommer är att Ergo Fysik A nästanenbartbeskriverstrålmodellen och ger begreppet stråle en felaktig definition. Ergo Fysik B beskriver vågmodellen till en början utifrån generellt vågbeteende och fotonmodellen utifrån den fotoelektriska effekten. Advancing Physics AS presenterar andra metoder att förklara fenomen som ljuset uppvisar. Strålmodellen behandlas knappt och begrepp som i svenska läroböcker beskrivs utifrån strålmodellen förklaras istället här med hjälp av vågmodellen och fotonmodellen. Slutsatser jag drar är att Advancing Physics AS är betydligt modernare och intressantare än de svenska läroböckerna och presenterar helt annorlunda metoder för att förklara fenomen än vad som görs med strålmodellen.

NatureBouncer med XNA och Farseer Physics
Rapportens huvudfokus handlar om ifall det är möjligt att skapa mjuka kroppar med hjälp av många små fasta kroppar. Det kollas även ifall det går att ge ett realistiskt beteende vid kollision med dessa. Biblioteken som har används för att testa detta är Microsoft XNA och fysikmotorn Farseer Physics.Spelet som byggdes är ett 2D plattform spel där spelaren spelar en boll som kan hoppa på vattendroppar och löv som båda är mjuka kroppar. Vattendroppen är uppbyggd av små hårda kroppar medan lövet är en större hård kropp som med hjälp av en Distance Joint kan vrida på sig vid kollision.Det går att göra en mjuk kropp med realistiska kollisioner men fysik motorn som används i detta fallet ger vissa restriktioner..

The aim with this essay is to find out what the expected changes in the subject physics will lead to for teachers and their pupils in ?gymnasiet?. The new fields we have chosen to focus on are electronic structure of condensed matter, nanotechnology and material physics. By studying earlier used curricula and textbooks, we illustrate what teachers may have come into contact with in their teaching careers. The main focus lies on what teachers claim to know about the fields mentioned above and if there is a need for further education.
