Vi har utvecklat och utvärderat en prototyp som skulle kunna användas för att tilldela könummer i den offentliga servicesektorn. Prototypen är utvecklad i programspråket Visual basic och är konstruerad för att kunna simulera en vanlig köautomat. Rapporten innehåller en hel del information och betraktelser inom området WAP, allt lagt på en förklarande nivå. En stor del av arbetet och denna rapport är också tillägnat implementeringen av en Perl databas. Perl har ett mycket bra stöd för de flesta databaser.

Library 2.0 is a term which emerged a few years ago and is frequently discussed. There is no uniform definition of the term but the central aspect of the concept is to encourage increased participation from library users.The aim of this Master's thesis is to investigate if and if so, how the professional role of the librarian is affected by Library 2.0. To do that, we have conducted a case study at the public library in Umeå. Their homepage minabibliotek.se is a practical example of Library 2.0. The homepage is based on interactivity and the library users can participate in various ways.We thougt that qualitive interviews was the best way to gain an understanding for how the librarians at the public library in Umeå experience how the work with minabibliotek.se affect their professional role.

Syftet med denna systematiska litteraturstudie var att ur ett globalt perspektiv undersöka ungdomars kunskaper om HIV/AIDS och vilka faktorer som påverkar kunskapsnivån. Syftet var vidare att ur ett globalt perspektiv undersöka ungdomars attityder till HIV/AIDS samt deras sexuella beteende. Sökning av artiklar har skett via databaserna Blackwell Synergy, ELIN@dalarna samt EBSCO Host. Övrig litteratur söktes manuellt på Internet och bibliotek. Inklusionkriterier var att artiklarna skulle vara publicerade mellan år 2000-2006, ha ett vetenskapligt värde, vara skrivna på det svenska eller engelska språket samt vara primärstudier.

The aim of this Master?s Thesis is to find out whether bibliotherapy, in an unspokenform, is practiced in already existing group formations to be able to determine how practicalbibliotherapy can be seen in a Swedish context and thereby open the possibility for development.To fulfil this purpose I decided to do a case study on a nearby book reading circle for adultchildren of drug addicts. I made three qualitative interviews; two of the mentioned book readingcircle?s leaders and one participant/help leader. I used the following set of questions: What isincluded in the concept Bibliotherapy and how does that relate to practice? How has the bookreading circle examined in this case study proceeded, which methods were used and what kind ofliterature has been used and also what kind of effects did this reading circle have on itsparticipants.

This study aims to examine the views on digitization of eight respondents, all working at different libraryinstitutions in Sweden, and how their views are reflected in their library's digitization strategies. The poll wasconducted on the basis of Ingrid Mason's theory of information standards, their structure and sociopoliticalnature. The informantion standards are divided into three aspects, curatorial, semantic and technical, and theyaffect selection of, intellectual and physical access to the digitized material, which in the end is what constitutes the digital cultural heritage.The background to the study is that the Swedish library institutions in the current situation lacks a nationalstandard or a common strategy for the digitization of cultural heritage, while it is still implemented digitizationprojects at many library institutions. The method used is qualitative, structured interviews with open-ended questions.The study shows that one of the main motives behind the libraries' digitization projects is to make librarymaterials available in a new way, creating greater opportunities for the users to take advantage of the material.The library users are the ones who mainly control what is digitized, although aspects of preservation ismentioned. Furthermore, it appears that the respondents believe that digitization offers improved capabilities tosearch and learn more about the collections, but the actual work of image capture, the addition of metadata,presentation to users and long-term preservation is very complex.Views on what it is to be digitized, how the material should be selected and provided with metadata and howit should be presented to users is what creates the standards that libraries use when they digitize their materials,and digitization of library materials creates new conditions for new users to access and use library material.This is a two years master?s thesis in Archive, Library and Museum studies..

The aim of this Master's thesis is to examine the user discourses that can be identified in the public library field. Questions posed in this study are: what discourses can be found, what characterises them, how are users categorised and what does this categorisation imply. The theoretical starting-point is Ernesto Laclaus and Chantal Mouffes discourse theory. The method is text analytic. 62 articles from three library journals - Biblioteksbladet, Bibliotek i Samhälle and Ikoner are analysed through a model in four phases.

In this masters paper the change that Lidköping public library went through between 1952 and 1959 is described and analysed. The aim is to describe and analyse the reactions that arose at the time that the first professional librarian, Jörgen Elgström, acted to create a modern public library in the town. The issues that are handled are: How did the local politicians and the general public react to the process of change that was started by Jörgen Elgström? What were the consequences for the staff, the premises, lending, child and youth activities? The paper is concentrated around the period 1952-1959 because this is the time when Jörgen Elgström was working in Lidköping. Jörgen Elgström has a central role in the paper.

The aim of this master's thesis is to study what attitude public libraries in Sweden show towards video games. By using critical discourse analysis as both theory and method we analyse several texts emerging from a debate mainly discussed in blogs. Main topics in the debate are video games in the library, the purpose of the public library and Library 2.0. Our analysis focus on views expressed concerning the work and purpose of the public library, the librarian and the library user - and to identify the main visible discourses in the discussion.Our findings consist of two discourses representing two different views in the debate. We call these two discourses the general educational discourse and the interactive discourse.

Stress är ett ökande problem i samhället. Av alla sjukskrivna är i dag närmare fyrtio procent hemma för någon form av psykisk ohälsa och antalet beräknas öka ytterligare. Besvären kryper längre ner i åldrarna och kan ses redan hos små barn. En redan utsatt grupp i samhället är ungdomar, vilka går igenom en stor omställning i övergången till vuxenlivet. Hur de påverkas av dagens samhällsstruktur är ännu outforskat.

Undersökningen vilar på två huvudfrågor: Vad är ett materialbibliotek, och varför uppstår de i så stor utsträckning idag? Frågorna besvaras genom samtal med ansvariga på materialbibliotek, främst kommersiella, i Europa och USA och redovisas i en historisk och kronologisk översikt över det senaste decenniet, en tematisk beskrivning av verksamheten samt en diskussion kring materialbiblioteket utifrån begreppen dokument och bibliotek där en allmän biblioteksmodell appliceras på materialbibliotekens verksamhet. Slutligen föreslås en definition av begreppet materialbibliotek.Undersökningen kommer fram till att materialbiblioteket är en informationstjänst som samlar och organiserar materialprover och materialkunskap, och som inte enbart fungerar som tillhandahållare av information utan även strävar efter att i mötet med sina användare skapa ny kunskap om de dokument det behandlar. Materialbiblioteken uppstår ur ett behov av en samordnande central för materialkunskap, och kan placeras inom det nya serviceparadigmet information management. Det finns även ett behov av att känna på material och att skapa en mötesplats för kreatörer och tillverkare inom designområdet.

Smålands museum, the museum of Småland, is a museum for the county of Kronoberg, a mission given to the museum by the state and county council. The main fields of the museum are the cultural heritage and the history of culture of the region. The museum of Småland is also the Swedish museum of glass. This Master s thesis focuses on the information requirements of the employees at the museum of Småland. Because of the financial status of the museum, the librarian that worked at the museum had to quit about four years ago.

Syftet med detta examensarbete är att utreda Uppsalaelevernas tillgång till skolbibliotek i sina grundskolor, samt hur väl integrerade skolbiblioteken är i undervisningsverksamheten. Frågeställningarna syftar till att belysa hur stor andel av Uppsalas elever som har skolbibliotek som uppfyller skollagens krav, samt i vilken grad bibliotekarier och lärare samarbetar på Uppsalas skolor. Dessutom undersöker jag huruvida utvecklat samarbete mellan undervisande personal och bibliotekspersonal ger avtryck i läsförmågeuppgifterna i de nationella ämnesproven i svenska i åk 3 och åk 5.Aktuell biblioteksforskning i såväl Sverige som Nordamerika lägger tonvikt vid att samarbete mellan lärare och bibliotekarier kan spela stor roll för elevernas kunskapsutveckling, särskilt vad gäller Literacy, det vill säga det vidgade läsbegreppet som omfattar läsförståelse och kunskaper om hur man använder information. Data har inhämtats med hjälp av en enkät som har skickats till 42 grundskolor i Uppsala kommun. Enkäten omfattar flera frågor med fritextsvar och de fylliga svaren från informanterna har analyserats kvalitativt.

Detta examensarbete utförs vid SSC Lindvalls AB i Kalix höstterminen 2006, ett snickeriföretag som bland annat tillverkar inredningar till bibliotek. Företaget har en egen biblioteksmöbelserie som går under namnet Fora, som omfattar ett rikt antal varierande produkter. Uppgiften är att utveckla en ny biblioteksdisk ur Fora-serien så att den blir så användarvänlig och tillverkningsvänlig som möjligt, samt ta fram kompletterande produkter för att skapa ett komplett disksystem. Grundläggande riktlinjer har dragits av arkitekter och arbetet utförs med stöd från dem. Tyngdpunkten i projektet ligger på produktionsanpassningen samt att skapa en attraktiv produkt ute på marknaden - en produkt som tilltalar både tillverkare och kunder.

Today, "the digital library" is the common way of describing a managed collection of information, with associated services, stored in digital formats and accessible over a network. Digital libraries have mainly been developed at research libraries, but during the last few years public libraries have started to offer similar services.The aim of this Master's thesis is to study how the Swedish public libraries plan to develop their digital libraries according to their mission statements, and in what way they have implemented them at their web sites. 21 public libraries, the largest in each Swedish county, were investigated.The library mission statements are investigated to find out in what terms the digital libraries are described and to what extent. The library websites are examined with respect to what kind of digital services are offered, to what extent they supplement or replace the physical library, and if there are new digital services not found in the physical library.In most mission statements the digital library is referred to in sweeping terms like "IT activities" and "new media". However, a few of the libraries clearly regard the digital library as an important part of the future operations, speaking of it in well defined and extensive terms.The public library websites are relatively homogeneous when it comes to services supplementing physical library activities, like web access to the library catalogue and links to other library catalogues.

The purpose of our research was to examine whether the acceptance and diffusion of RFID technology among the employees at public libraries in Sweden, follow the classic diffusion of innovation model. RFID or Radio Frequency Identification, is a technology that uses radio frequency and microchip technology to track items, in our case, library books and other library materials. Diffusion is the process by which, in our case, the RFID technology is adopted by the library staff. The purpose of this study was to examine what factors influenced the acceptance and adoption of RFID among the library staff. We used Everett Rogers' Diffusion of innovation theory as our framework.
