Carbon sequestration in the pastoral area of Chepareria, western Kenya : a comparison between open-grazing, fenced pastures and maize cultivations

Carbon sequestration through restoration of degraded pastoral soils is an advocated way of mitigating global warming, and simultaneously alleviating poverty. An often proposed rehabilitation strategy is fencing of pastures, a method that was introduced to the farmers of Chepareria by the Vi-Agroforestry organization in 1987. The landscape of Chepareria changed from eroded, over-grazed grasslands, to a mixture of open-grazed commons, pastoral enclosures and cultivations. The aim of this study was to investigate (1) if the soil organic carbon (SOC) is higher inside the enclosures than on the open-grazed commons, (2) if SOC is affected by duration of fencing and (3) what effect cultivation of pastures has on the SOC. Estimations of vegetation cover and deep Profile (100cm) soil sampling was performed on six clusters containing; (1) open-grazing (OG) (2) 1-5 years of fencing (FENCED(1)), (3) 7-10 years of fencing (FENCED(2)), (4) 15-23 years of fencing (FENCED(3)), (5) maize from OG (A(OG)), (6) maize from fenced pasture (A(FENCED)).

This thesis aims to contribute to improved functional procurement of photovoltaic systems, PV systems. Functional procurement means that criteria concerning a function are set rather than specifying technical details or products. Possible advantages and difficulties in using functional procurement have been analyzed by interviews, simulations and a case study. Electricity production and surplus production for different scenarios have been simulated via MATLAB. The MATLAB script was also used to generate rules of thumb on feasible solar fraction for six different load Profiles; a church, a farm, a car mechanic, an office, an industry and an apartment building.

The purpose of this study is to examine web-based recruitment to short term summer jobs at the SocialServices Department in Luleå municipality in Sweden. Recruitment goals, selection options on therecruitment homepage Offentliga Jobb and recruitment practices were analysed in order to reach a deeperunderstanding of the interactions between these three levels in the selection process. Pre-selection throughOffentliga Jobb was a special concern of the study. Different consciousness levels in the selection process areemphasised according to Anthony Giddens' structuration theory. Ten recruiters from different parts of thedepartment were interviewed.

An anthropological approach has been used to investigate how individuals understand ethical dimensions of clothing, and relates to the consumers? ideals that are pronounced by clothing companies with an environmental and ethical Profile. Interviews have been conducted with young men, a group often absent in accounts of ethical consumption.

Today, the tourism sector is the fastest growing industry in the world and also includes one of the foremost for instance in the number of work and added tax. The sector entails a lot of positive factors but also negative consequences, such as overexploitation and wear on natural areas. However, even the visitor industry contributes to smaller localities boost by creating new jobs where depopulation occurs. This study focuses on the town Kisa in Kinda Municipality. The purpose of the study is to highlight the importance of tourism for migration to a town and to show the importance of developing sustainable destinations.In the results of this study it emerges that more job opportunities are requested by respondents for increasing Kisas attractiveness.

Genusstrategier i förskolan : En studie av en förskolas arbete med att motverka traditionella könsroller, ur ett intersektionellt perspektiv

The purpose of this study is to examine a preschool's work to counteract traditional gender roles, which strategies are used and how norms about gender roles are produced and treated. The study also examines whether the preschool has an intersectional perspective in it's gender work, which analyzes how they relate to other categories such as ethnicity, race, class, age and sexuality in their work. I have been observing and conducting four interviews with teachers at a preschool with a gender Profile. In my analysis I have used Foucault's theories about discourse and power. The results show that the informants had a high awareness of gender and that the main strategies used were: an individual perspective, seeing the individual and not the sex, and a gender-neutral strategy, removing everything that is gendered, for example, in language and environment.

Omladdning av ett varumärke blir aktuellt när märkets brand equity stagnerat eller när företag önskar förändra de värden som är kopplade till varumärket. Detta tillsammans med en organisatorisk förändring har varit aktuellt i vårt fallföretag Lindex.

Ungdomars fysiska självkänsla : En kvantitativ studie baserad på en grupp ungdomar mellan 16-18 år

Denna studie handlar om ungdomars fysiska självkänsla och baserar sig på en grupp ungdomar med åldrarna 16-18 år. Syftet är att ta reda på om den fysiska självkänslan skiljer sig ur ett genusperspektiv, om det finns en signifikant skillnad. För att undersöka ungdomarnas fysiska självkänsla används en bearbetad enkät av Raustorp (2006) som kallas Sådan är jag! (Bilaga 2). Den ursprungliga enkätens namn är Children and Youth-Physical Self-Perception Profile (CY-PSPP) som utvecklats av Fox och Corbins Physical Self-perception Profile. Enkäten delades ut till 100 elever på ett praktiskt gymnasium i Skåne.

1-D Modellering av Piezoelektrisk Injektor

A piezoelectric injector was modeled, in this Master Thesis Project which was carried out at Scania CV AB in Södertälje, in GT-Fuel. GT-Fuel is simulation program from Gamma Technology.The simulation model for the piezo injector was divided into a hydro-mechanical system and an electrical system (Piezoelectric element). First the hydro-mechanic model was duplicated from Advance Continuous Simulation Language model (ACSL). The simulation results were then compared to the ACSL, to verify that the hydro-mechanical system was modeled correctly. The simulation results for the electrical model were also compared with a Simulink model.

Syftet med denna uppsats är att undersöka den första månadens rapportering kring försvinnandet av Madeleine McCann och på så sätt få en bild av vilka faktorer som skapade ett så stort publikt och medialt intresse för just detta fall. För att kunna svara på detta ställs tre övergripande frågor ? vilka aspekter lyfter medierna fram i rapporteringen, hur bidrar dramaturgisk bearbetning till att forma rapporteringen samt vilken betydelse får huvudaktörer i rapporteringen.Undersökningen görs genom en kvalitativ analys av återkommande teman i rapporteringen. Denna kompletteras med en kvantitativ innehållsanalys för att få fram statistik på hur mycket utrymme visa aspekter får samt vilka benämningar som görs vid porträtteringen av Madeleine McCann.Det undersökta materialet består av artiklar från tidsperioden 5 maj 2007 till och med den 7 juni 2007 i Aftonbladet, Expressen och Dagens Nyheter.De teoretiska ramverk uppsatsen utgår ifrån är teorier om socialkonstruktivism, nyhetsvärde, medielogik och narrativ berättande.Resultatet visade att den främsta faktorn till att fallet uppmärksammades är genom den personifiering som gjordes av Madeleine McCann och hennes föräldrar. Personifieringen leder till att rapporteringen kan konstrueras till en nyhetsberättelse.
