Over the past ten years, the pupils' performance and grades has fallen and the number of competent to high school has decreased gradually. The Swedish school has been criticized and the role of the teachers has been questioned, among other by the media. In autumn 2007 Johannesskolan, one of Sweden's tenth worst schools replaced the ordinary teachers of Class 9A against eight of the country's "main" educators with the goal of the class to become one of Sweden's third major. The teachers have the autumn term in which to achieve the goal and the outcome will be measured by national tests in core subjects Swedish, English and Mathematics. The aim of this paper is to examine the role of the teacher's leadership in relation to the pupils' social and intellectual development, and identify common leadership of these eight educators.
Many children and adolescents up to the age eighteen come from other countries alone to Sweden to seek asylum. Sweden receives many unaccompanied children and the number of unaccompanied children is increasing every year. There are various reasons to why the unaccompanied children flee their homeland to come to Sweden. Many of the unaccompanied children come from countries such as Somalia, Afghanistan and Eritrea. This essay aims to explore how the integration of the newly arrived unaccompanied children works in schools.
Demokratiska verktyg i gymnasieskolan : - Elevdemokrati ur ett elevperspektiv
The study aims to investigate student participation as a tool for democratic development in secondary school from a student perspective. Furthermore, students' perceptions of the school's work with student participation in formal and informal contexts are also investigated, with basis in the teaching structure. Subsequently, an analysis is made based mainly on three different theories: democracy, curricula and sociocultural theory. The result shows that students feel that they are able to practice student participation but the amount of influence they get differs between individuals depending on devotion and commitment.
In a municipality in the county of Stockholm there is a preparatory class which accepts newly arrived children from other countries. In the preparatory class the education is focused on teaching students the Swedish language so that they eventually, after about 3-4 -terms, can be transferred to a "regular" class. For students with a different native language, it takes about 5-7 years longer to learn the knowledge-based language that is used in school (Gibbons 2009: foreword). This requires education in school to be linguistically developing. The purpose with this essay is to gain knowledge on how pedagogues can work in a linguistically developing manner with students who have Swedish as their second language. The comparison between education in a preparatory class and education in two regular classes at two different schools is also part of that purpose. What is the education considering linguistically developing work methods like in the preparatory class and the" regular" classes? Are there differences and similarities between the preparatory class and "regular" classes education when it comes to linguistically developing work methods? Which part of the education is adapted to a linguistically developing perspective that fits students with Swedish as a second language?Theories as the socio cultural theory, the proximal zone, and Jim Cummins model, concerning among other things language and knowledge development, is brought up and linked to the study of differences and similarities between schools.
"Det är det största beviset på kärlek, att lämna bort för att skapa ett bättre liv" : En kvalitativ studie om att vara internationellt adopterad
I meet in my work as art teacher many students of different descent, were they, or their parents, have different school experience than the Swedish. This, in combination with therecent discussion after the Muhammad caricatures about the banning of images in Islamic religion, made me curious to study what art education in a Muslim country looked like. I went to visit the Maramra Egitim Köyü school in Istanbul, Turkey, and especially their art classesfrom grade five to eight, which are the same age of students that I have been working with thelast ten years. This was my first visit to Turkey. The question I ask is: What does the practice of Turkish art education look like, using the Marmara school as an example. Which discourses can I identify in the art teacher practice? What surprised me the most was the frequent visual exposure of the founder of the Turkishstate, Kemal Atatürk.

This study aims to examine what students in two schools think of the physical environment in their school, and how this affect their studies. My main question I wanted to answer was:How does the students think that the physical environment affect their day in school?I also wanted to find out what the students think is important in the physical environment in their school. The study is based on interviews with students i two different schools. One secondary school, in which three eight-grade students were interviewed, and one high school in which two students were interviewed. The result of the interviews is that the students think that their work in school is affected by the physical environment. The most important things is to feel safe in school and to have the possibilities to do studies without limitations in the environment, for example room to do their own studies, and a flexibility and variation in the environment.

The study was based on the concept of inclusion and how it is made possible in primary school. The study was conducted using semi-structured qualitative life-world interviews with three teachers in primary education with included pupils with learning disabilities in their class. The results show the complexity of having a pupil with learning disabilities in class. To interpret, follow and then assess under two syllabuses are seen as difficult.
In my essay, we get to meet Olle who goes in first class. The essay takes off after school and when recreational activities have started. Olle comes running towards me to ask for help, he has gotten into trouble with three classmates and he feels unfairly treated. A true classic or normal event, which I think takes place in most schools. What I am interested in examining is how my feelings affect the whole course of events in the conflict arising.
Symbolic resources transform in to social power and material resources through the educational system. This entails that all students should have equal access to it.The essay compares Swedish didactics in ?immigrant? and ?white? schools, all situated in socio-economically underprivileged areas, analysing interviews with eight Swedish teachers about their didactics regarding restricted and elaborated language code.Understanding teacher?s work in the class room requires attention to the intersections between race and class, and of both to the distribution of symbolic resources in general. The essay finds that the practice of the? immigrant? school teachers differs from the ?white? school teachers?. The former are active, providing intellectual tools, scaffolding and driving force while the later choose a more passive attitude, letting students decide for themselves what to do and what goals to reach. Consequently ?white? schools allow the reproduction of unequal distribution of symbolic resources while practice in immigrant schools aim to compensate for disadvantages.Practice seems to win legitimacy by different sets of conceptualisations.
Elevinflytande : En undersökning utifrån ett lärarperspektiv
This survey is a qualitative study about how teachers see on the concept student leverage and what they say about how they in practice work with it. We have chosen to examine the subject from a teacher?s perspective, because almost all investigations and literature, that we have found, discuss student influence from a student?s perspective. That?s why we are interested to examine what teachers think of the subject.
"Var är Emma!?" : En essä om integrering av barn med problematik i skolan
This essay contains two stories that reflect the reality I face as an educator, as well as a reflective discussion about my self-perceived dilemma. The dilemma reflects a classroom situation where I as an educator have trouble dividing my focus, my focus is either put on entire the class or on the child with special needs. Through this self-perceived situation I have started to question how children with special needs find their place in the school today. I discuss how I can handle and look at the unique situation that occurs when meeting this child.Terms like integration, inclusion, segregation, social rights and the expression "a school for everyone" will be discussed in this text, as well as how we can connect these terms and expressions to the problems I find in the school system?s way of handling children with special needs.I also highlight my dilemma from different ethical perspective.
