This paper discusses whether the allocation of Swedish aid is dependent on absolute or relative Poverty, and whether there is any difference in this respect between ODA and aid distributed through officially funded NGO?s. Given the Millennium Development Goals, and their overarching goal of halving extreme Poverty by 2015, we should expect the aid allocation to be determined by absolute rather than relative Poverty. We use OLS to estimate multiple linear regressions. We find that Swedish ODA has an absolute Poverty focus, while the Swedish NGO aid rather seems to be concentrated on relative Poverty. .

This master?s paper first presents some of the principal theories and concepts developed by the Poverty researchers Rowntree, Titmuss, Townsend, Sen and Lister. These theoretical frameworks are then related to two documents from the EU and Sweden concerning combating Poverty and social exclusion, bearing on the establishment of the ?Year 2010 against Poverty?. Finally, I discuss the value in practice of these theories and policy documents, as regards reducing Poverty in Europe. It has become clear in this investigation that the theories and concepts from earlier research are still relevant to the formulation of contemporary policy programmes, and that earlier research helps us to avoid old traps in fighting Poverty.

In this essay, I investigate the representations of Poverty in two charity galas on Swedish television. Moreover, through a discourse analysis, I look at how the concepts of ?development? and ?Poverty? are used in these galas. I have watched two galas from 2012; Tillsammans för världens barn and Humorgalan. The shows turned out to be quite different from each other, as one of them was problematizing the concept of ?Poverty? more than the other.

We discovered that the teachers notice different things as signs of child Poverty, and they all react in both different and similar ways.

This is a qualitative study about child Poverty within the school environment. The purpose is to examine how financial resources can affect the social standings of teenagers and how that affects them in school; how the school system view and work with child Poverty as well as how they act within the legal framework that requires the school to be free of charge. This was done through analyzing earlier research and conducting five interviews with personnel at three schools for children ages 13-15. Our results show that social standing can be affected by a lack of financial resources, partially due to not having certain mobile phones or brand clothing, partially because they cannot afford to join in on social activities. Furthermore, teenagers view child Poverty as shameful and a risk factor for social exclusion.

The aim with this study is to understand how social workers at the individual- and family sector think about child Poverty and how they work with and reason about the preventive and facilitate work they do for financial vulnerable families. We have in our study used qualitative method through semi-structured interviews with social workers at the individual- and family sector to answer our purpose. The results showed that child Poverty is a concept hard to define and not well established. The social workers have divided views on child Poverty but still at the same time mean that it exists amongst the families they meet. There is also a big difference between municipalities and their reasoning on what a reasonable standard of living is for a financial vulnerable family and how they work with preventing child Poverty.

Fattigvården i Gustavsberg 1869-1924

With the help of large amount of archive material I have examined how Gustavsberg in Värmdö were affected by the great labor migration in Gustavsberg porcelain factory during the period 1869-1924. I have chosen to investigate how the municipality dealt with the Poverty relief issue out of the labour immigration perspective. To my surprise I found out that Värmdö was not responsible for Gustavsberg in the Poverty issue. The workers belonged to the factory, which had a relatively well-developed system of Poverty relief in place. This is not to say that the workers received any support from the factory to any great extent.
