Pain related behaviour in 1.5 year old colts was studied both prior to and following castration. The horses were filmed 24 h prior to surgery and 24 h postoperatively. Parameters, inactive and active behaviours, were recorded in terms of cumulative time observed. Both groups of horses were exercised three times and the gait quality was evaluated. Few differences were observed between the groups.

Background Satisfaction of life and wellbeing is shown to be important when the quality of life is to be understood. The nurse has a significant role in the care of the patient and in his/her experience of life. Aim The purpose of this study is to examine the quality of life, from a nurse perspective. Method The text analysis was carried out with qualified attempts, of a book, "Quality of life a challenge for the nurse" (in Swedish) by T. Rustoen, a nurse who also worked as a teacher in Norway. The book describes how quality of life is experienced from the patients and staffs view. Results The text analysis showed that out of the ordinary descriptions of quality of life, the author found four new themes. These themes where; the meaning of solidarity, confidence, activity and meaningfulness in the existence. Conclusion Quality of life is an important word, which means different to different kind of people.

Background: Obesity surgery is the only technique that has proved to have a long-lasting effect on weight loss. Operation is not a solution but rather a lifelong involvement for the person. To loose a lot of weight means a big adjustment for both body and mind and the operated person may need support, advice, information and encouragement. Aim: The aim was to describe how a person, operated for obesity, can be supported in order to reach improved health pre- and postoperative. Method: A systematic literature study was made which resulted in 18 scientific articles that have been reviewed.

Intresset och användandet av komplementärmedicinska behandlingsmetoder växer bland både patienter och sjukvårdspersonal. Syftet med denna litteraturstudie var att undersöka effekten av tre komplementärmedicinska behandlingsmetoder vid postoperativ smärta. Centrala frågeställningar var om transkutan elektrisk nerv-stimulering, massage och musik har smärtlindrande effekt postoperativt. Good-mans sju steg (Willman m fl, 2006) följdes genom processen i denna litteratur-studie. 11 artiklar inkluderades totalt efter sökningar i databaserna PubMed och CINAHL.

Auditory Neuropathy Spectrum Disorder (ANSD) is a collective term for a specific form of hearing loss within a heterogeneous population of patients with mutual audiological test-profile. Cochlear implantation in children with ANSD has been found to result in good outcomes. Previous research, however, has shown the existence of a subgroup of children with ANSD who do not benefit from cochlear implantation but instead are in need of alternative methods of communication. The aim of this literature review was to examine the possibilities to predict outcomes of cochlear implantation in children with ANSD by pre-, intra- or postoperative examinations/measurements and thereby evaluate in which cases cochlear implantation is an appropriate intervention within this group of patients. The material consisted of 10 scientific papers published between 2007-2014.

Objective: The objective was to examine the incidence of constipation, and the preventive measures taken in relation with postoperative pain treatment with opioids at two orthopaedic surgery wards.Methods: The participants were patients that had undergone surgery in the back, hip or thigh. They were selected through systematic selection and a total of 46 electronic health records were examined. The factors investigated and tested for correlation with constipation were the usage of laxatives, daily fluid-intake and early mobilisation.Results: Totally, 26.1 % of the patients became constipated, and laxatives were prescribed to 65.2 % of the patients. Doctors prescribed 53.3 % of the laxatives, nurses 33.3 % and for the remaining 13.3 % it was uncertain who had written the prescription. Usage of laxatives seemed to cause constipation (p=0,025), whereas there was no correlation between constipation and early mobilization.

Skoltrivseln minskar med åldern och till skillnad från många andra frågor skiljer sig pojkars och flickors uppfattning i denna fråga mest i den yngsta åldersgruppen, då flickorna i högre utsträckning uppger att de trivs mycket bra i skolan (Svenska barns hälsovanor, FHI 2005). I den här studien undersöks hur åtta 12-åriga svenska skolflickor i en västsvensk småstad upplever sin skolvardag. Min metod har varit att fastställa deras KASAM-värde genom en enkät (Margalit & Efrati, 1996) baserad på Antonovskys frågeformulär för att mäta Känsla Av Sammanhang (Antonovsky, 1987)och sedan intervjua dem enskilt om trivsel, flow och beröm i skolan.

Not only is the tree an element of nature that is of great value to our survival, it also serves as a valuable object and symbol of human beings? enjoyment and appreciation of the environment. The purpose of this study is to present the relationship that a person may have with a specific tree. Three women and two men are interviewed about their trees and the places where they are located.

Syftet med denna litteraturstudie var att undersöka patientens upplevelse av livskvalitet efter överviktsoperation samt främjande omvårdnadsåtgärder. Metod: Litteratursökning utfördes i PubMed och Cinahl med Full Text. Sökord var följande: Bariatric, Bariatric Surgery, Quality of life, Bariatric patient, nursing, postoperative care samt treatment outcome. Dessa sökningar kompletterades med manuella sökningar. Efter genomgång avseende inklusions- och exklusionskriterier valdes sammanlagt 16 artiklar ut för denna litteraturstudie.

Delirium är en vanlig och allvarlig komplikation hos äldre personer som vårdas på sjukhus och är förenad med försämrad prognos och ökad dödlighet. Syftet med denna litteraturöversikt var att undersöka om särskilda vårprogram har förebyggande och lindrande effekter vid akut delirium hos äldre personer som vårdas på sjukhus, om det finns skillnader i effekt av vårdprogram mellan olika typer av personer och om någon del av ett vårdprogram kan vara mera betydelsefull än andra. Metoden utgick från en systematisk arbetsprocess enligt Goodmans sju steg. Nio kvantitativa interventionsstudier och två kvantitativa litteraturöversikter ingick i analysprocessen. Analysen visade att det finns ett starkt vetenskapligt stöd för att särskilda vårdprogram kan förebygga och lindra delirium och ett begränsat vetenskapligt underlag för att det finns skillnader i effekten av vårdprogram mellan personer med demens och andra personer som vårdas på sjukhus.
