Hur anpassar sig Gyps-gamar (Gyps rueppellii och G. africanus) i Östafrika till oregelbunden och osäker födotillgång?
In East Africa live two species of Griffon Vultures; Rüppel?s Griffon Vulture (Gyps rueppellii) and African White-backed Griffon Vulture (G. africanus). One of the apparently most important factors limiting the population of these birds is food supply. Griffon vultures nest for eight months of the year, and are during this period geographically tied down to the nesting place.
Utilization of different habitatsin Colobus angolensis palliatus in the forests of Diani Beach, Kenya
The Angolan black and white colobus monkey (Colobus angolensis palliatus) is an arboreal primate that inhabits coastal forest fragments on the south cost of Kenya and is consequently vulnerable to forest fragmentations. The study was carried out in March and April 2011 in Diani Beach in Kenya where two of the largest Populations of the species are distributed. This study is a pilot study to test methods for a Master?s thesis. The aim was to investigate any variations in use of two habitats of C.a.
The influence of forestry stands treatments on brown bears (Ursus arctos) habitat selection in Sweden ? an option for Alberta forestry?
The brown bear population in Alberta, Canada has been decreasing, while the Swedish has been increasing and all the affecting parameters are not known. This study examined the difference in these Populations to see if an explanation could be found in differences between the forest management. The aim of the paper was to see if stand treatments had an influence of brown bears habitat selection in autumn in Sweden and how the results can be used in Alberta. This was done by analyzing bear positions in Sweden with forest data, and comparing forest management data for the study area in Sweden with forest management data for Alberta. The results displayed that mature forests over 60 years that have been commercially thinned are selected by bears rather than forests over 60 years that have not been commercially thinned in.
Diseases and causes of death among camelids in Sweden : a retrospective study of necropsy cases 2001-2013
Camelids, especially alpacas, have increased in popularity during the last decade, with the result that they are more frequently encountered by field practicing veterinarians and pathologists. Knowledge regarding their health care and their diseases under Swedish conditions is, however, limited. This became clear in a postal survey among Swedish alpaca owners conducted in 2008. To improve knowledge about camelids in Sweden, this study has examined 107 necropsies, including 93 alpacas and 14 camels, conducted at the National Veterinary Institute (SVA) in Uppsala and at Eurofins in Kristianstad and Skara during the period 2001-2013. The study has shown that camelids in Sweden suffer from diseases similar to those previously reported in other countries in Europe and North America.
MOTIVERANDE SAMTAL I V?RDEN AV PATIENTER MED OBESITAS OCH ?VERVIKT I SYFTE ATT ST?DJA VIKTNEDG?GN - EN LITTERATURSTUDIE
Background: Obesity has expanded to a nationwide issue that affects millions of people. The
healthcare system struggles to handle the epidemic as the problem grows. Studies show that
healthcare workers have negative attitudes toward obese and overweight people and that they
lack knowledge and proper tools to support this patient group. Motivational interviewing
(MI) is a known technique for initiating lifestyle changes with patients.
Aim: The aim is to evaluate the effectiveness of MI as a tool for weight loss and sustainable
lifestyle changes for people with obesity and overweight.
Method: This study uses a literature review methodology with a systematic perspective. Data
is gathered and analyzed to investigate how MI affects weight loss.
Bokhögstubbar i Klåveröds strövområde : utbredning, egenskaper och betydelse för rödlistade vedlevande skalbaggar
Lack of dead wood is the main cause of decaying or loss of Populations for many
forest species. To increase the amount of dead wood is a prerequisite to maintain
biodiversity in forests of northern Europe. In summer 2006 the recreation area
Klåveröd, at Söderåsen in Skåne, Sweden, has been inventoried for high stumps
(snags) of beech, (Fagus sylvatica). The result of the inventory has been compared
with data of the real estate and forest management directories from the owner,
region Skåne. The results have also been matched with the results from an
inventory of saproxylic beetles in 2005, performed with windowtraps on selected
snags both in the area and the adjacent national park Söderåsen.
594 snags were found on 747 ha.
Inventering av vecklare i Svenska äppelodlingar
Over the last couple of years, growers, researchers, advisors and plant protection companies have noticed increasing problems with tortricids in Swedish apple orchards. Since the insecticide Gusathion (azinphosmethyl) has been banned (end of 2008; KemI 2008), a further increase of tortricid Populations can be expected. In order to get a picture of species composition and population densities among the tortricids, an inventory of seven species, Adoxophyes orana, Archips podana, Archips rosana, Cydia pomonella, Hedya nubiferana, Pandemis heparana and Spilonota ocellana was made in 11 orchards in southern Sweden (Skåne) in 2008. Population densities were estimated by bud sampling (April 20-25), pheromone trapping (May 5-September 22) and assessment of fruit damage (September 9-12). In all orchards A.
EU-OPINION I TIDER AV KRIG I EUROPA En kvantitativ studie om hur attityder till EU och europeisk integration f?r?ndrats under krigstid.
In the early morning of February 24th, 2022, Russian troops crossed the border to Ukraine which
started the full-scale war between Ukraine and Russia. Even though the war does not directly
involve the EU or member states of the union, it affects the lives of the European people. While
previous research has established that general attitudes towards the European Union and
European integration has changed in some countries within the Union since the start of the war,
the question remains how attitudes towards EU and European integration has changed across
EU. A second unanswered question is whether Populations in Western and Eastern Europe have
responded differently, leading to a potential divergence or convergence in attitudes. The theory
?Rally around the flag? suggests that an outright war that border to EU will increase support for
the political leadership in EU.
En ?terinventering och analys av den svenska populationen av svart nervmossa (Campylopus atrovirens)
Bristly swan-neck moss (Campylopus atrovirens) is in Sweden a very rare moss that only grows on a few blocks and cliffs around Gothenburg. The species can globally only be found in areas with high precipitation. Rain fall in Gothenburg has increased with a stronger greenhouse effect. Air pollution in Gothenburg has also improved. Mosses generally benefit from these conditions and this papers hypothesis is that the population of the species has grown because of these more beneficial conditions.
"Plötsligt var världen här" : Bibliotek och integration i tre Stockholmsförorter
The aim of this two years master thesis in Library and Information Science is to examine how librarians and library managers in the three Stockholm suburbs of Alby, Fisksätra and Rinkeby think and reason about the role of public libraries in the integration process. The aim is also to examine whether their perception differ from that of local politicians at the municipal level. The theoretical framework is Marianne Andersson and Dorte Skot-Hanses model for analysis of the local library profile, and Jose Alberto Diaz theory on the integration process. The method used is qualitative interviews. The interviews were recorded and the content was analyzed using qualitative content analysis. The results of this study show that the library services in the three suburbs, rather than being stipulated by the legal demand for special services towards immigrants, are based on the needs of the local population.
Tidningen Dagens Nyheters uppfattning om vildsvinen (Sus scrofa)? : en innehållsanalys av en rikstäckande nyhetstidning
Since the wild boars (Sus scrofa) escaped from their enclosures in the 1970s, their numbers has increased dramatically. It is an animal that is currently involved in many traffic accidents. The wild boar is a popular animal to hunt. As the population has grown so has the hunting. But, unfortunately, there have also been an increased numbers of attacks on hunters.
Kvinnor som är entreprenörer Bestämningsfaktorer och regional variation
The proportion of women entrepreneurs in Sweden is, as in many countries, smaller than the proportion of men entrepreneurs. Sweden has therefore created political measures with the ambition to increase women entrepreneurship. However, knowledge about the determinants of women entrepreneurship is needed in order to enable the promotion of it and, at the same time one can question the treatment of women entrepreneurs as a homogenous group. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the determinants of women entrepreneurship and whether these determinants fluctuate regionally. If this proves to be the case, a more spatial/individual approach should be used, when creating measures to promote entrepreneurship.
Selection of habitat and resources during migration by a large mammal : a case study of moose in northern Sweden
Migration is a worldwide phenomenon that has occurred for thousands of years in a vast variety of species. The general knowledge of migrating animals is poor even though billions of animals from a range of different groups migrate every year. The human impact on migrating ungulates is high and many Populations are declining globally due to direct and indirect causes. Hence it becomes vital to study the migration phase and the habitat and resources selected during migration. The objective with this study was to identify the habitat characteristics and resource selection of moose during migration and compare the selection between different seasons and utilization distribution (relative frequency distribution for the points of location of an animal over a period of time) categories.
Hur livshistoriekaraktärer hos Europeisk abborre (Perca fluviatilis L.) påverkas av cykliska förändringar i populationsstrukturen
This report deals with life-history variation for Eurasian perch (Perca fluviatilis L.), with special emphasis on age and size at maturity in females, in perch Populations that have changed in size distribution. The collection of fish samples was made with multimesh gill nets year 2011. The perch?s length, height, weight, status of gonads has been analyzed, and by observing the opercular bone the age has been determined. In two lakes close to Umeå in northern Sweden, Fisksjön and Ängersjön, the live-history traits of perch have been studied.
Rondellen och dess växtmaterial
Common species of freshwater mussels may, like the freshwater pearl mussel (Margaritifera margaritifera) have a drastic decline in number and there is several reasons, like sedimentation, a decline of host fishes, introduction of alien species, nutrition leakages from agriculture and pollutants of medic drugs and poison. Ann Gustavsson made in the year of 2007 a study over rejuventation of freshwater great mussels in nine watersystems and considered that the rejuventation within the Populations were all along the line poor. This study orients from her work and points to determine if there is a connection between the poor juventation and pollution of nitrogen and phosphorous from industries and private sanitations. The study was performed with the software program ArcGIS9.2 to take out drainage areas for the concerned habitats and contact was made with the concerned authoritys. When it comes to supervision of private sanitations is it the countys and for industries is it the county administrative board.
