The purpose of this essay is to examine if there is any difference in the style of conversation between a municipal politician and a politician in parliament? In order to answer this question I have created two sub-questions that are more precise. The first question is: Are the municipal Politicians more open to cooperate with Politicians from other parties than the Politicians from parliament? And the second question is: Is the rhetoric between the Politicians in parliament different than the rhetoric between the municipal Politicians?My study is a comparative case study with two different groups of Politicians. With the help of a survey I have tried to examine if there are differences in the use of language in the daily work for the Politicians.

What do they think should be done to get more young people to engaged in politics and become a municipality politician?The young Eda politician is a girl living in a house in the country and she has middle education.

The main purpose of this master thesis is to investigate the information seeking of lay Politicians, part-time Politicians and professional Politicians in connection with the possible upcoming fusion of the two administrative regions, Västra Götaland and Värmland. The focus of this study has been to study how Politicians use and evaluate information and sources of information, and to investigate if there are any differences in how different categories of Politicians seek information. Seven Politicians were interviewed using semi-structured questions, and a phenomenographic approach was used to analyze the data. In Sweden there are few available studies of how politician seek information, but some international studies have focused on information needs, information sources, selection and evaluation of information. I have used previous research, and data from respondents to compile and analyze my results in three descriptive categories.

In this essay, the aim is to study the role the Politicians play in relation to the people they represent. This is manly a theoretically study, which focus is on the theories behind the way we choose to identify the role of Politicians. We ascribe different underlying values to the role of Politicians and as a result from these different values a conflict can arise. Two central terms in my discussion are the way the Politicians represent people's values and meanings combined to the possibilities for the people to hold the Politicians responsible. Depending on which ethic values you put to the role, you have different views about how the Politicians should act.

Information is one of the organization's essential resources, and as such it needs strategic management. The authors use the information audit, which was developed by Orna 1999 and Henczel 2000 as a tool to evaluate how well an organization's information activities connect to its mission, goals, and objectives, to evaluate the municipal Politicians' information support in Härryda municipality. The decision situations met by Politicians often are complex; they are ambiguous and unstructured, with a high level of uncertainty. Human information sources meet needs arising in this kind of decision situations best. Since most of the Politicians work full-time besides being Politicians, Härryda municipality has to substitute the human sources by textual ones composed of highly summarized information.

This study focused on how local Politicians in Kalmar perceive journalists and their intertwined relationship. We based our study on the theoretical understanding of today?s media-centric democratic society. The ?adversary model? offered an understanding of the intricate relations between Politicians and journalists.

The main purpose of this Master thesis is to illuminate the understanding of local Politicians regarding the public libraries and the librarians. We argue that the local Politicians´ opinions regarding public libraries and librarians influence the way they act and react in their roles as Politicians.In order to achieve the aim of this thesis we focused on following questions:What are the opinions of the Politicians:- regarding themselves in relation to the public library?- concerning public libraries in general and its functions especially in the municipalities of their own?- concerning the librarians and their work in a public function?What are the conclusions to be drawn regarding the Politicians´ interest and commitment to public libraries in the politic daily-life of the municipalities? Our empiric material consists of qualitative interviews with six Politicians elected in two municipalities in the interior of Västerbotten, a northern sparsely populated district. In order to distinguish the various opinions that emerge from the material, we apply a phenomenographic approach. The analysis result we present in three conceivable categories in order to express the different opinions.In general our study points at a positive and favourable attitude to the public library, and all the respondents assume that the municipality ought to offer this service.

The aim of this study is to explain and analyse political steering of public libraries in Swedish municipalities and the roles of Politicians and administrators in this process. To fulfil this purpose five municipalities have been studied. It is argued that both Politicians and administration have to be included in a study of steering and that the relation between Politicians and administrators should be seen as an interplay. Planning and evaluation are discerned as the two main activities in the steering process. The material in this study consists mainly of information collected through interviews with library responsible Politicians and library managers in all five municipalities.The results show that libraries are considered politically uncontroversial and that Politicians see little need for political interference and steering.

This essay studies the relationship between Politicians and municipal chief officers from the point of view of the bureaucracy and its role in democracy and the substance of the chief position. I conducted interviews and observations with Politicians and senior officials from the local public administration in Bromölla. The roles of the chief officer and Politicians have certain common characteristics which makes it difficult to separate them. Senior officials working full time in contrast to part time Politicians give them an advantage in the political process. Budget cut backs both enhance the role of Politicians and chief officers in the administrative organisation.

The local Politicians in Sweden are responsible for a great deal of the welfare system why one would assume that there are a lot of demands put on them - demands for certain skills or a certain level of competence. I have in this study tried to find out how the demands on the local representatives concerning the demands for competence and the actual level of competence among the Politicians are affecting the local politics. This was done through investigating how the local Politicians are perceiving their level of competence and the demands put on them, but also how the employees are perceiving the demands and the level of competence put on the Politicians. The study was made in the municipality of Gislaved in Southern Sweden. I was using both quantitative method (an opinion poll among the Politicians and employees in the municipality) and qualitative method (interviews with three Politicians and three employees and literature studies).In order to investigate the demands for competence I split the concept into ?soft? competence (socially and emotionally based skills), and ?hard? competence (skills based on knowledge, education and experience).

AbstraktThe purpose of this study is to examine how Swedish Politicians and textbooks in social science choose to describe communism, this in order to see if there is a main discourse that controls what communism is associated with. The study is structured by the following question: How does Swedish Politicians and textbooks choose to describe communism, is there a main discourse that controls how language is used? The method chosen for the analysis is discourse analysis. Chain analogy is used to structure the studied texts discursive content. Four textbooks in social science are analyzed and a number of public government documents that contains discussions about communism and the agency Forum för levande historia.The analysis shows that there is a clear discourse among leading Politicians that dictates that communism is to be associated with a spectrum of negative words and concepts, but when it comes to the textbooks there isn?t an equally clear discourse and the textbooks differ among themselves in general content.

The aim of this study is to explore if and how library managers market their competence in communication with local Politicians. It is also our aim to find a definition of the competence of librarians. The report identifies and describes problems and possibilitieswith marketing of competence to Politicians on the basis of one Swedish municipality's library managers. In order to fulfil this aim we have used a literature study on marketing, competence, the political process and the librarian profession. We have alsocarried out an empirical study where we interviewed ten library managers in onemunicipality, seven Politicians in the same municipality and ten representatives for central professional organisations mainly in Sweden.The results are that most library managers don't market their competence because they don?t believe in marketing competence.

The main purpose of this master's thesis is to investigate to what extent municipal Politicians govern a selected public library. This means to clarify who determines the direction of the library and its services and in what way. It also involves examining the relationship between library staff and local Politicians in the decision-making process. Which decisions are made by the Politicians and which are left to the employees? The study is based on an investigation of a public library in a municipality over a period of ten years the 1990s.

The purpose of this study is to examine the mediatization of Swedish politics on a municipal level. We live in a world were media affects many aspects of life. One of those aspects is the communication between the citizens and the Politicians.Our main research questions are:To what extent do Politicians communicate with journalists and who initiates these contacts?Do Politicians talk to some types of media rather than others?What factors make a politician choose to speak to media?To what extent do leading Swedish municipal Politicians use media strategies?To answer these questions we have used various theories to help us understand media?s role oftoday. First we explain the transformation that has taken part in Swedish media over the last century, from political party press to independent media companies.

As a starting point the society is more enlightened and has gained a greater awareness about the gender power structures and its different forms. Present research shows the continuous development into other shapes and comes into different expressions that might be unrecognised. In order to gain knowledge about the present structure of the gender power structure system, the aim of this study was to investigate framing of female and male Politicians in media. The main question asked was: ?are there framing differences in the portraits of the male and female Politicians?? In order to achieve results articles in the biggest Swedish daily newspaper were examined.
