Examensarbetet berör den bild som Dagens Nyheter publicerade den 21 juni 2006 gällande Komvux och om skolan som en elitenhet. Åsikten är att unga med fullvärdiga betyg vandrar från gymnasium till Komvux, i uppsåt att höja betygen. På så sätt hoppas de att bli antagna till de mer attraktiva utbildningarna såsom jurist kandidatutbildning och läkarutbildning. För att verifiera eller dementera våra frågeställningar, har vi analyserat texter både kvantitativt och kvalitativt samt som vi gjort empirisk undersökning i form av intervjuer, vilket skall återge den sanna bilden av Komvux (Gamlebyskolan) i Varberg. Materialet som vi har använt oss av är bland annat rapporter från både skolverket och utbildningsdepartementet.

This C-essay is a qualitative study designed to create a basis for understanding how managers involved in school affairs perceive the impact of merit points on students? chances to continue on to higher education and how this will affect individuals' life chances.The study is based on three interviews with managers involved in school affairs. In this paper grades, merit points and socioeconomic class differences are discussed.The aim of this paper is to answer the following questions:? What impact does merit points in language studies and the way different languages are valued, in the system, have for the individual and for society?? Who are the winners in the new grading system and who are the losers; how are different socioeconomic groups affected?The material was interpreted with the help of a report written by Ingrid Nordqvist and Monica Langerth Zetterman called "Secondary School competition field-a regional perspective", a paper written by Helen Raven who did a study on grades, national tests and social reproduction and the Frenchman Pierre Bourdieu's theories.The results show that class differences will increase and that it will be difficult to rise in the social hierarchy in the future..

The concept of democracy is of importance to the Swedish educational system. The best proof of that is the central position democracy has had in the education program we attended at the Örebro university. This study analyses the concept of democracy and its leading foundation, namely the so-called ?deliberative dialog?. The last is belived to be an ideal of democracy which schools in Sweden should follow.

The purpose of this study was to investigate a group of teenage girls and their relation to clothes by using the theories about habitus and different types of capital by the French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu. We have used semiotics since we also wanted to know what clothes symbolized for our respondents. The questions were therefore:1. How is a group of teenage girls who go to school in Stockholm city influenced by their habitus and symbolical capital in their attitude and relation to clothes?2.

Mitt syfte med detta examensarbete var att undersöka vilka kulturella vanor och intressen, inställning till utbildning och högre studier elever på designprogrammet har med sig från uppväxtmiljön, samt utreda huruvida ett eventuellt samband mellan dessa faktorer föreligger. Mina frågeställningar var:- Hur har uppväxtmiljöns kulturella vanor och intressen sett ut och hur har de påverkat elevernas val av gymnasieutbildning?- Hur har uppväxtmiljöns inställning till utbildning och högre studier sett ut och hur har den påverkat deras syn på utbildning?- Finns det samband mellan uppväxtmiljöns syn på utbildning, kulturella vanor/intressen samt elevernas studieambitioner och framhävande av kulturellt betonade aktiviteter?Med utgångspunkt i bl.a. den franska sociologen Pierre Bourdieus teorier om kulturell kapital har jag utformat undersökningen som bestod av enkät och intervju med tio elever på designprogrammet. Mitt resultat visar dock att ungdomarnas kulturella vanor/intressen och inställning till utbildning inte är lika starkt sammankopplade som Bourdieu hävdar.

The purpose of this master thesis is to investigate how some children's librarians view their working situation. There is one main question and three subquestions at issue: How is the working situation of the children's librarians today described by agents on the library field? - Are children's librarians ascribed any value and has this changed during the last three decades'? - What is the apprehension of children's librarians and what qualities should they possess? - What is considered to be most important about work of children's librarians'? The thesis is based on qualitative interviews with children's librarians, library managers and library consultants. The interviews are analysed by the help of Pierre Bourdieu theoretical concepts; capital, habitus, field, doxa and distinction. Today, children's librarians are ascribed capital by their librarian colleagues because of their specialist qualifications.

The thesis explores how the category religion is used discursively in Swedish public debates and in what way the discourses can be related to debate-positions. The thesis also exploresquestions of power and how social identities are negotiated: which identities are madepossible ? and encouraged ? by the discourse, and which are being excluded?The specific cases chosen are: (i) the election of Omar Mustafa as a substitute member of the governing board of the Social Democratic party in April 2013, (ii) the appointment of Elisabeth Svantesson as Minister of employment in September 2013, (iii) the debate concerning male circumcision (2011-2013), and, (iv) the debate about Jewish home education(2012-2013).The theoretical and methodological perspectives used in the thesis are discourse analysis and Pierre Bourdieu?s theory of social fields, usually interwoven together. Discourse analysis is mainly used to explore how the category of religion is attached to central binaries in the debates such as faith/politics, private/public, secularism/fundamentalism, etc., and also how chains of equivalences are established. Bourdieu?s theory of social fields is used tocontextualize the discourses in the specific debates and relate them to orthodox and heterodox debate-positions.

Women all over the world have been victims for oppression during a long period of time. One main thing they were excluded from was the possibility to educate themselves. Fortunately, the situation is different today and studies shows that there are more women applying for higher-education than men, at least in Sweden. What motivates them is unknown, but according to the sociologist Pierre Bourdieu, it is always something in one?s social environment.The aim of this thesis was to examine how five female students have been motivated to apply for university and college educations, despite the fact that they are from non-academic families.

The subject of this thesis is how a suspected criminal has been described in written swedish media. The topic of the articles is the investigation of a man suspected for murder and for dismembering the victim during the winter of 2011. The purpose of this thesis is to try to answer the question of what the newspapers actually write to describe a suspect before he or she has been trialed in court. For the analyse of the articles, published in four of Swedens largest newspapers, critical discourse analysis has been used. The results have been compared with other analyses made on other cases and have been discussed with Pierre Bourdieu?s theory of action.

Den manliga dominansen fortgår och fortgår, enligt bland andra Pierre Bourdieu. Även ett särskilt utarbetat kodschema för att underlätta analysen av intervjumaterialet har använts. De intervjuade lärarna visade sig vara homogena i sin syn på manlighet. Oavsett ålder och erfarenhet inom yrket så var tankar och reflektioner angående begreppet manlighet överensstämmande.

Hur bör man som pedagog bemöta barn som far illa i förskolan? [How should a teacher meet children exposed to maltreatment in preschool?] Malmö: Lärarutbildningen: Malmö högskola Examensarbetet handlar om hur man som pedagog i förskolan bör agera vid misstanke om att ett barn far illa och hur man bör bemöta dessa barn i förskolan. Samtidigt vill vi belysa tecken på hur ett barn kan fara illa och vad lagen säger. Vi kommer genom intervjuer försöka förstå hur vuxna, som kommer i kontakt med barn som far illa i sitt vardagliga arbete, anser att man bör hantera förhållandena kring barn som far illa. Undersökningen bygger på intervjuer med tre förskollärare, en specialpedagog, en polis, en socialsekreterare, personal på BVC och en rektor på en skola i ett socialt och ekonomiskt utsatt område.

Denna C-uppsats i Sociologi är en analys av hur det fungerar i det svenska rättsväsendet gällande kvinnor som har blivit utsatt för våldtäkt. Syftet med analysen är att försöka få fram en tydlig bild av hur de svenska lagarna tillämpas i praktiken och om de efterlevs som lagen beskriver att den ska göra. Men analysen vill också se om det finns något orsakssamband mellan ett patriarkalt samhällsmönster och om det finns något symboliskt våld i rättsliga sammanhang. De teoretiska utgångspunkterna har varit en jämförelse av Pierre Bourdieus begrepp om könshabitus, symboliskt våld i relation till den feministiska teorin om patriarkatets syn på kvinnor som blir utsatt för våldtäkt och hur de blir behandlade av det svenska rättsväsendet.
