AimThe purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between off-ice horizontal jump tests and on-ice skating among students at hockey high schools. Questions: What is the association between the performance on horizontal jumps and skating 10 meters standing start among students in Swedish ice hockey high schools? What is the association between the performance on horizontal jumps and skating 10 meters flying start among students in Swedish ice hockey high schools?MethodStudents at three ice hockey high schools in the Stockholm area participated in the study. Two schools were national approved sports educations and one at lower level. All 50 students (41 at national approved sports educations and 9 lower level) that were included in the study were men and went year one and two in gymnasium.

The purpose of this thesis is to shed light on a present trend of professionalization in Swedish local environmental politics, which have recently seen a decline in active participation of the citizens in favor of an increased governmental regulation. With the aim to closer investigate this relatively new phenomenon, the paper is a qualitative single case-study of environmental policies in the Swedish municipality of Karlskrona. In this case, the municipality is obviously balancing between regarding the interests of the national level and the interests of its own citizens at the same time. This motivates the use of system-theory, and relates to the classical political paradox between participation and efficiency which is also a present theme in the paper.This text-analysis based on interviews with personnel and documents from the municipality shows a visible trend of professionalization in the local politics of the municipality of Karlskrona, from a large grade of participation and a strong bottom-up approach in the days of Agenda 21 to now being more strongly top-down defined by national environmental objectives and principally operated on a professional level..

The aim of this study is to examine if library and archive will meet professionally in digitization projects. The study has been conducted as a discourse analysis in accordance with the methods of Norman Fairclough, professor of Linguistics at Lancaster University. The texts are seen as linguistic and semiotic elements of social events that can be analyzed as parts of the social process ? discourse. The relationship between events and structures in society will be part of the social practice.The basic data derive from five public documents collected from Swedish government agencies.

Hur gick det till när romerna gick med i pingstkyrkan och varför ville pingstkyrkan ha dem med? Pingstkyrkan visste först inte att romerna var kristna och då de upptäckte att så var fallet och att romerna i flera andra europeiska länder var med i de ländernas pingstförsamlingar tyckte de att det var naturligt att de skulle få vara med i Sverige också. Pingstvännerna var ju också en relativt ny rörelse i Sverige och de var öppna för nytänkande.Grunden inom pingstkyrkan är densamma men romerna har burit med sig mycket av sin kultur in i pingstkyrkan. Vissa saker ser de svenska pingstvännerna mellan fingrarna för därför att romerna ändå är en grupp med stark kultur som de inom pingstförsamlingarna inte vill ta ifrån dem och för att det inte direkt strider mot pingstkyrkans praxis. Det viktigaste för romerna som de tagit med sig in i pingstkyrkan är renlighetsreglerna som de håller mycket strikt på.

This essay focus on the European Union and its democracy both from a national perspec­tive and from an international perspective. Furthermore, the essay center on the con­cept of democratic deficit, this in order to study the European Union´s status regarding the democratic legitimacy. This study intends to nuance the problems that previous research and previous researchers have de­fined as democratic deficits in the European Union and ends up in conducting a textual anal­ysis of the latest European Union treaty, the Lisbon Treaty.The aim is that by using previous research on the democratic deficit in the European Union examine whether the Lisbon Treaty has enhanced the EU's position regarding democratic legitimacy. In other words, my study aims to identify what the deficit is and if it exists.The results show that the Lisbon Treaty has been trying to improve the democratic legitimacy and that some practical adjustments have been made, but it also show that there is much that still can be improved before citizens have full democratic rights..

The artist Pehr Hilleström has been credited as the founder of the Swedish genre painting. In the second half of the 18th century he began painting everyday subjects of the different social stratums. Today his paintings are noted for their way of showing us the culture of the time since the photograph still had still not been introduced.   Hilleström was a court painter for King Gustav III who wanted him to depict the Swedish people and their different costumes. The king thought the costumes were of great significance for their psychological impact on people and therefore used them as a way to unite the nation psychologically, both by the genre paintings and also by making a national costume. The costumes were used as a symbol of an unbroken tradition and national heritage.

The purpose of this study was to examine the incentives behind Sweden?s decision to engagein the Afghanistan conflict.The method used to fulfil the purpose of the study is content analysis. The material that hasbeen used in the study is various books and articles concerning Sweden in Afghanistan,Swedish foreign policy and perspectives in political science.The study is multi-theoretical and thus the analysis explains the incentives from a liberal, arealist and a constructivist point of view.The conclusion of the study is that identity has a great part in explaining the incentives forSweden to engage in Afghanistan, especially because of the transformation in strategy andforeign policy that has taken place since the end of the cold war. Other factors, such as peacebuilding and national interests also are incentives supported by the material used in the study.Yet, perhaps they are first and foremost connected by the constructivist idea of identity..

There is a known link between relative deprivation and street crime among market liberal countries. Although some research has been done with cross-national data, there is none to suggest that the observed link is as valid in a country well known for its extended welfare and generous social expenditure like Sweden. The following study uses longitudinal data to see if this recognized link between relative deprivation and street crime also stands in a country with almost a century long tradition of striving for social-, economic- and cultural equality. Even though Sweden, over the last decade, has been subjected to a series of deregulations due to policy changes at national level, and with a following rise in inequality, it is still considered to be one of the most equal countries in the west. It is therefore not unlikely that the high degree of social security will reduce the negative impact of relative deprivation on social relations among its citizens, perhaps enough so that the correlation will be significantly weakened.

Denna uppsats behandlar synen på kultur inom utvecklingsprojektet tusenet. Tusenet är ett projekt mellan Sverige och Turkiet och en del av Turkietprogrammet, som syftar till att underlätta och främja Turkiets medlemskap i EU samt att fördjupa de svensk-turkiska relationerna. Då denna uppsats bygger på kvalitativa intervjuer vill vi skapa förståelse snarare än att komma fram till några absoluta sanningar. Studien är baserad på sex stycken kvalitativa intervjuer med representanter från de svenska deltagarna i tusenet. Även en mindre omfattande telefonintervju för att utreda projektnamnet har utförts.

För att få en större förståelse för vad begreppen kultur, medier, estetiska uttrycksformer kan innefatta, och även frihet, individ/ kollektiv och identitet, har vi valt att fokusera vårt examensarbete på dessa begrepp.

 Bakgrund: I dagens Europa finns aktörer med delade åsikter kring hijab och dess betydelse. Debatten handlar om att eventuellt förbjuda slöjan i det offentliga rummet, detta på grund av att den bland annat anses vara en symbol för kvinnoförtryck. Ett förbud kan eventuellt leda till att de muslimska kvinnorna isoleras från samhället och integrationen försvåras.Syfte: Syftet med denna studie är att genom kvalitativa intervjuer undersöka en grupp muslimska slöjbärande kvinnors erfarenheter kring hijab. Det är även intressant hur föreställningar och upplevelser om slöjan hänger samman med processer som rör identitet och kultur. En människas identitet och kulturella tillhörighet kan krocka med omgivningens, därför är det intressant att undersöka om dessa muslimska kvinnor upplever sig som stigmatiserade.Metod: Studien är baserad på en kvalitativ metod.

The aim of this Masters thesis is to investigate how the image of the Public library is described in the Swedish national library politics, and compare it with the image given of the public library in the Danish national library politics. The method used for this analysis is a comparative discourse analysis of the homepages produced by the Swedish central government Regeringen and Kulturrådet and its Danish counterpart Kulturministeriet and Biblioteksstyrelsen. Theories on postmodernity have been used to analyze how the Swedish and the Danish central governments image of the Public library corresponds with a changing society and the changing behaviour of the public library users. Our analysis concludes that the traditional view of the Public library as an institution mainly concerned with literature and reading still is of great significance in the discourse of the Swedish central government. In contrast, the Danish central government presents a more postmodern view of the public library as an institution that is part of the Information- and the Knowledge society.

Sweden is divided according to an ethnic boundary, which divides people in "we" and "the others", "Swedes" and "immigrants" (Ålund, 2002). We believe this is due to the fact that society categorises immigrants all the time as a homogeneous group with fixed and static qualities, resulting in a situation where you cannot represent yourself as a person. Instead you are represented on the basis of your ethnic belonging. Young immigrants often grow up under other conditions and find themselves in more vulnerable situations than Swedish youths. The purpose with this paper was to investigate young people with different ethnic backgrounds, their thoughts and feelings about their identity, group belongingness and future.
