Integration genom språk och museipedagogik : Integration through language and museum education

The purpose of this thesis is to analyze how Museums, seen as heterotopic places where time and space act simultaneously, can, with the help of Museum educators and guides, integrate the foreign citizens in Sweden. The analysis is done with the help of three institutions: The Vasa Museum, the Royal Armory and The Great Synagogue in Stockholm.The author of the thesis argues that recruiting trained personnel with foreign roots by Museums would help significantly in the creation of a sense of collective identity and belonging among those citizens who are just adapting to the country. Through the use of Swedish, in conjunction with their mother tongue, as well as analogies, an important contribution can be attained in their integration.In this work, concepts such as the accent, are treated in a categorical manner, as the author, with the assistance of other researchers, concluded that the accent should not influence the perception of the intellectual and work capability of a professional Museum educator/guide.History represents another key element in this thesis, as it discusses the way to find a new narrative form to channel history and refer to it, thus sharing historical roots with these new immigrants in Sweden..

Barn på museum : En multimodal analys av Naturhistoriska riksmuseets och Nordiska museets riktning mot barn

This bachelor thesis consists of an analysis of Museum environment. In the research, case studies have been done at the, Stockholm based Museums, Swedish Museum of Natural history?s exhibition Natur i Sverige (Nature in Sweden) and the Nordiska museet?s (Nordic history) exhibition Modemakt (Power of fashion) and learning environment Lekstugan (playhouse). The purpose of the research was to study how cultural heritage is used and developed within the Museum pedagogy aimed at children. The research is based on a multimodal approach with focus on learning resources.The research examines the Museums focus on children and youngsters, what the goals for this focus looks like on respective Museum and how the focus is visible in the actual Museums.

Fotoindexering på Jämtlands läns museum

The aim of this thesis is to describe the subject indexing of images performed at the provincial Museum of Jämtland and to evaluate the inter-indexer consistency at the Museum. The main questions are: How are photographs indexed in the database SOFIE foto regarding Outline-codes, subject headings and natural language keywords? How does these procedures compare to research and indexing projects? How consistent are the indexers at the Museum when choosing Outline-codes, subject headings and natural language keywords? Answers are sought by reading articles about classification, image indexing, indexing language, indexing consistency and by looking at a number of projects attempting to standardise image indexing practice in Sweden. The indexing practice at the Museum is also described. In addition a minor inter-indexing consistency study, based on the subject indexing of ten photographs made by five indexers at the Museum, is performed.

Det talas om förändring : en studie av den svenska museivärlden

The Swedish Museum world is a complex and disputed field. Changes are high on the agenda, but they are neither easy nor self-evident. This master thesis looks at how Swedish Museum professionals discuss changes and how they envision Museum work for the future. It is also an analysis of the current state of the field. We have made a critical discourse analysis of three recent projects; Svåra saker, Museum 2000, makten.nu and the debate articles from the journal Svenska Museer from 2000 to 2001.

Att närma sig ett museum : Ett förberedelsematerial för förskolan

Detta är ett självständigt arbete bestående av en uppsats och en produkt som utformats inom förskollärarprogrammet vid Uppsala universitet i nära samarbete med Museum Gustavianum. Undersökningar visar att museer och förskola/skola ofta vill samarbeta, men att detta samarbete ofta uteblir trots den goda viljan. I detta examensarbete har vi valt att titta närmre på vilka trösklar som finns och utvecklat en produkt för att främja användandet av Museum som arena för lärande.Som ett led i produktutvecklingen har vi i förarbetet gjort en omvärldsanalys. I denna ingår en enkätundersökning, två observationer av guidade visningar, ett besök på museet med en barngrupp samt inläsning av tidigare forskning på området.Produkten är ett förberedelsematerial för förskolan i form av en berättelse, tänkt att kunna användas av pedagoger och barn inför ett besök på Museum Gustavianum. Ambitionen är att materialet ska väcka upptäckarlust och ge en introduktion och förkunskaper genom text och bild.

Röhsska Backstage : är publika arbetsmetoder nästa steg framåt?

The Röhsska Museum in Gothenburg has recently launched a new work method, Backstage, that is studied and paralleled to the Museums permanent exhibition on Japanese design. In Backstage the Museums routine work is executed in full view of the Museums visitors in an exhibition area. The study has focused on the Museums intentions and the visitors? interpretations in Backstage and Japanese design, as well as the staff?s experience of the work method?s public aspects. The study?s empirical material has been collected through interviews with the Museum staff as well as observations and interviews with visitors in both Backstage and Japanese design.

En analys av "Identitet- om varumärken, tecken och symboler" : Ett tredelat projekt av Nationalmuseum och Stockholms Handelshögskola våren 2002

The purpose of this paper was to analyse ?Identity- about trademarks, signs and symbols?. The project was a co-operation between the National Museum of Art and Stockholm School of Economics in the spring of 2002, which consisted of an exhibition, a book and a series of seminars. The goal was to illustrate how the trademark had developed through history, which role it has in the modern society and how the trademark serves as a creator of identities. The project, mostly the exhibition, was exposed to criticism, which was directed towards the sponsorship deals between The National Museum of Art and five companies..

Konservering inför utställning - fallstudie kring bemålade vävtapeter på Röhsska museet

The aim of this paper is to highlight issues and potential problems regarding conservation inan exhibition situation. The thesis presents a case study from the Röhsska Museum, inGothenburg, where an interior of painted tapestries was currently being conserved andrestored. The study includes general history about the painted tapestries, conservation historyand information about the current treatments.The painted tapestries originates from a former manor [sv: säteri] in Gothenburg calledHökälla and were donated to the Röhsska Museum in 1916. The tapestries were a part of theMuseum?s permanent exhibition until 1996, when it was dismounted and put in storage.

Historia i teori och praktik - Samarbete mellan skola och museum i historieundervisning

Syftet med undersökningen var att analysera och problematisera samarbeten mellan skola och Museum i historieundervisningen. I undersökningen användes kvalitativa intervjuer för att undersöka tre museipedagogers och tre lärares tankar och erfarenheter av samarbeten mellan skola och Museum i historieundervisningen. Undersökningen visar att ett samarbete mellan skola och Museum i historieundervisningen är något som upplevs som positivt och önskvärt, och att lärare och museipedagoger upplever en rad olika vinster med ett sådant samarbete. I undersökningen har dock även en rad hinder för en givande samverkan mellan skola och mu-seum identifierats. Dessa hinder är främst av organisatorisk art, men även fördomar och olika syn på kunskap kan utgöra hinder.

Gränslöst. En global utställning på Historiska museet

This thesis is a report concerning the practical aspects on exhibition techniques. During an internship at the National History Museum in Stockholm I participated in the work with their new, temporary exhibition Gränslöst - en global utställning på Historiska museet [Boundless - a global voyage of discovery at the National Historical Museum]. I was part of a small project team of Museum staff. The purpose of this exhibition was to show how cultures have met and influenced each other throughout history. The National Historical Museum has in its collections and exhibitions several examples of objects that has been imported from or inspired by other cultural areas.

Museernas roll i samhället : En intervjustudie av Stockholms stadsmuseum, Länsmuseet Gävleborg och Världskulturmuseet

This is a two year master's thesis in the field of Museum and cultural heritage studies. The purpose of the thesis is to examine different opinions among Museum employees about the role of Museums. The thesis also aims to find out to what extent and in what way these opinions are influenced by the Museum's own policy documents, the national cultural policy and the academic field of Museum studies. I have conducted qualitative research interviews with six employees from three different cultural history Museums. The theoretical framework of the thesis is based on Laruajane Smith's term authorized heritage discourse.

The subject of this thesis is the history of the library at The Göteborg Museum of Art. The aim of the thesis is to depict and analyze the emergence and the expansion of the library?s holdings until 1939. To fulfill the aim, two questions are asked. Kan man erfara historia? : Elevers syn på museet som lärandemiljö - om historieundervisning och historiemedvetande

This essay is a case study based on two sources of empirical data, qualitative interviews and responses from a questionnaire, which examines upper secondary school students? attitudes to history teaching in a Museum context. The students? answers are further analyzed in relation to the concept of historical consciousness. Thus, history teaching in the Museum, from a student perspective, and the students? capacity of expressing a historical consciousness in their answers, constitute the core of this essay.

Hur fungerar tillgänglighet på Flygvapenmuseum och Arbetets museum? : En kvalitativ studie av museernas policies och arbete med tillgänglighet

Syfte: Syftet med vår uppsats är att undersöka två turistattraktioner för att se hur de hanterar och arbetar med tillgänglighet när det gäller människor med funktionsnedsättning. Turistattraktionerna vi valt är FlygvapenMuseum i Linköping och Arbetets Museum i Norrköping.Metod och material: Vi har använt oss av kvalitativa metoder. Utgångspunkten för val av metod är en lättare variant av fältstudie även kallad observation. Vi gjorde två observationer, först hos FlygvapenMuseum sedan hos Arbetets Museum. Efter våra observationer använde vi oss av en semistrukturerad intervju, detta för att få svar på det som vi inte lyckades hitta svar på under observationerna.
