In this C-thesis, I investigate the sudden outbreak of the Swedish witch-hunts during the 17th century, mainly focusing on Gävle and Ockelbo in Gästrikland.To show the extension of the Swedish witch-hunts, I have included an introductory part of the thesis, where this is described. Another important part of the thesis is the one about views upon women and the functions of their bodies, which had to do with female sexuality. Women were indeed considered a threat, by men in powerful positions, and very often it was sheriffs, judges, commanders and governors who most strongly claimed this.People believed that the witches went to Blåkulla, which could be practically anywhere. It could be a Mountain, an open area, a rock or a heath. It seems, however, to have been situated far north.My investigation mainly concerns the witch-hunts in Ockelbo and Gävle.

This is a study on winter groups, ?siida?, of semi-domesticated Mountain-migrating reindeers that move to lichen pastures in the lowland boreal forests during winter. The aim of the study was to determine reindeer habitat use in their winter ranges in a managed forest landscape. The reindeers use of three different types of forests was determined, 1) 100-130 year old, 2) 20-40 year old forest and 3) clear-cut areas. All sites were dominated by Scots pine, Pinus sylvestris, and had the same types of ground vegetation.

Förstudien behandlar den tekniska delen av ett teoretiskt stadstäckande öppet WiFi i Trollhättan, Sverige. Trollhättans kommun beställde en förstudie från Högskolan Väst som skulle agera beslutsunderlag till hur de skulle ta ärendet vidare. Studien är begränsad till den tekniska biten, där bland annat val av utrustning, trådlösa tekniker och riskanalys av nätverket ingår. Arbetet varit väldigt teoretiskt inriktat med en metod som till största del består utav att samla information och kunskaper från vetenskapliga rapporter, teknikorienterade hemsidor och andra relaterade arbeten.De trådlösa standarder som jämfördes teoretiskt i förstudien var 802.11g och 802.11n. 802.11n valdes som den standarden som bäst passade just detta nätverk, främst för dess positiva egenskaper när det gäller täckning, hastighet och bakåtkompatibilitet.

The landscape can be something that you rest your eyes on, something that goes quickly past outside the windscreen or the place for the daily work. To me, landscape is everything around us ? the city, the field and the forest. But what is landscape for you? What does the idea of the landscape stand for? How does our view of the landscape become influenced of the place where we grow up? And the differences between peoples different views of the landscape ? what does they depend on? My point of the view for this paper is that the landscape ideals mostly depend on the landscape where you grow up and that it depends less on the differences between the individuals. As a landscape architect the idea of the landscape is the essential. The more we learn, the more we realize how complex it is, but deep down we always have our own experiences and memories and that shapes our personalities.

Herbivore impact on the Swedish forest has under a long time been a common subject of debate. There are many different opinions depending on what direction the forest owner has with his/her forest. Populations of moose and roe deer have increased significantly in Sweden during the last decades. The purpose of this study is to get a full picture of the herbivore impact on the regeneration areas. The field work was done once a year for seven years (1999?2005).

Meat and fish was the most important food for the Sami people in northern Scandinavia until the beginning of the 20th century. It is not so well known that the Sami people also used a lot of wild plants as food and medicine although that kind of food was relatively common among them until the end of the 19th century. The purpose of this master thesis has been to describe which plants the Sami people used in general and also which plants were the most commonly used, and when and how these plants were harvested. I also wanted to measure the quantities of Angelica archangelica and Rumex acestosa within traditional harvest sites. Furthermore I wanted to find out if the plant use differed among Sami groups geographically.

Inbreeding, the mating of related individuals, has been the one dominating breeding strategy for dog breeders during the last 200 years. However, its negative effects on fer-tility and other fitness traits, a phenomenon called inbreeding depression, have been ignored in the quest of perfect unity in conformation or performance. The purpose of this study was to test the hypotheses that litter size is reduced as a consequence of in-breeding, affected by both the inbreeding coefficient of the dam and the litter and that a rapid increase in the inbreeding coefficient affects litter size more than a slower rate. Data were collected from the Swedish Kennel Club registry of origin. Breeds included in the study were the Bernese Mountain Dog, the Cocker Spaniel, the Golden Retriever, the Rottweiler and the West Highland White Terrier.

Examensarbetets mål är att beskriva och beräkna Arvidsjaurs och Arjeplogs kommuners framtida bergmaterialbehov med utgångspunkt från bygg- och anläggningsprojekt som pågår och som planeras. Syftet är att få en sammanställning som visar om materialet räcker till eller om det finns behov att öppna nya täkter. Sammanställningen kan med fördel användas av kommunerna som planeringsunderlag beträffande nya vägbyggnadsprojekt. Alla tillståndsgivna täkter i Arvidsjaurs och Arjeplogs kommuner har kartlagts och täkternas kapacitet har också tagits fram. Även alla pågående och planerade vägarbeten kommunvis och årsvis från år 2005 fram till 2009 har karterats.

South Africa has been among the top ten wine producing countries for at least 20 years. Even though the land under grapevines is decreasing globally it is still increasing in Africa. The awareness of environment has strengthen the last years and South African producers experience a high demand of environmentally friendly produced wine, especially from the European market. This demand was the driving force behind the development of the world unique sustainability certification, Integrated Production of Wine (IPW), which is inscribed in the South African legislation. What makes this certification unique is that consumers can trace their product all the way back to the farming practices owing to the identity number specified on the IPW Integrity & Sustainability seal on certified products.

Detta arbete har fötts ur en övertygelse om att nyskapad konstmusik bör kunna vara lättillgänglig även för oerfarna lyssnare inklusive en yngre generation, utan att göra avkall på de kvalitetskrav som förknippas med denna genre. Via Gunnar Valkares avhandling Det audiografiska fältet kom jag till en större medvetenhet både om min egen ambition som tonsättare och om vilka parametrar i musiken som kan sägas avgöra om musiken får plats inom allmänna, eller om man så vill, vanligt folks musikaliska preferenser. Efter ytterligare fördjupningar i referenslitteratur samt efter några konstmusikaliska ut- och återblickar kunde jag identifiera de principer efter vilka jag ville försöka skriva ett musikstycke som skulle kunna motsvara dessa föreställningar. Uppsatsens teoretiska del utgörs av ett referat av Valkares text, särskilt hans begrepp ?Det Gemensamt Givna? (DGG), mina egna kommentarer och reflexioner kring denna text samt ett försök att ytterligare utveckla tankarna kring vad som kännetecknar sådan musik som kan omfattas av en bred publik.

Thinning is the partial removal of trees in a forest stand prior to final harvest. The term can be divided in pre-commercial thinning where little if any volume is removed from the stand and commercial thinning where removals are intended to provide a positive economic result. From a silvicultural point of view, the goal of thinning is to enhance future crop tree quality by removing low-quality stems and providing sufficient space for the accelerated development of retained ones (Huuskonen & Hynynen, 2006). The goals of this study was to see if commercial thinning could positively affect the short and medium term timber supply (MTTS) in the Interior regions of British Columbia (BC), and whether or not Scandinavian forestry practices could be adopted in the BC context. The Mountain pine beetle (Dendroctonus ponderosae Hopkins) has created significant forest planning problems in BC. The annual allowable cut (AAC) was raised to capture beetle-killed timber while still merchantable.

The global wood pellet market has seen a rapid growth after the adoption of the Kyoto protocol and the renewable energy incentives created within the European Union. The global consumption of wood pellets reached 13,5 million tonnes in 2010 and several experts estimate the consumption to be between 35-50 million tonnes by 2020. These forescasts raise the questions which regions that can supply this vast amount of wood pellets and what the conditions are for producing it. This study evaluates the conditions for wood pellet production and export from British Columbia, on Canada?s west coast, focusing on existing industry structure, raw material supply and the distribution chain.
