Mjölkningsfrekvensens påverkan på mjölkproteinets sammansättning och kvalitet :
In modern dairy production the milking frequency is increased in some herds due to introducing of automatic milking systems or the farmers decision to milk high producing dairy cows more than two times a day. With more frequent milkings the milk yield increases while the content of fat and protein decreases. However, how the composition of protein is influenced is not fully evaluated. The purpose of this study was therefore to see if a higher milking frequency had any impact on the milk production and especially on the protein composition.
This study was conducted as a half udder experiment.
Effects of two different light programs on milk yield, prolactin, IGF-1 and sleep in dairy cows
The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between sleep, photoperiod, milk yield and hormones connected to milk formation. Variations of prolactin (PRL) and Insulin-Like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) in plasma were measured during two different light programs. The light programs consisted of either 24 hours of light (L24:D0) or four hours of light and 20 hours of darkness (L4:D20). Five cows of the Swedish Red breed were used in a cross-over experiment and each light program consisted of five days. Milk yield was measured at every milking and milk samples were analyzed with regard to fat, lactose and protein.
Frequency of unsuccessful milkings in automatic milking rotary : effect on milk yield, lactose content and somatic cell count at udder quarter level
Developments in milk production are heading towards fewer but larger herds where the milking process is often fully automated. Automatic milking systems were launched in the 1990?s and in the year 2010 the Automatic Milking Rotary (AMR) was introduced. As a rule there are no supervision personnel present during the milking event in systems with automatic milking. This means that there is a risk that cows can be incompletely milked in one or more udder quarters, for example if the robots fail in attaching the milking cups or if the cow kicks off the milking unit.
Maasai herding and milking strategies : a case study of goals and decision-making within the household
In Kenya the Maasai pastoralists have based their livelihoods on dairy production and the production goal is to maintain a sufficient milk supply throughout the year. The pastoral dairy production has two vital characteristics; breeding and milking. Traditionally, breeding is the men?s responsibility, while milking is the duty of women. Depending on this partition of chores between men and women, they also have different management routines, ambitions and strategies regarding the milk production.
Studier av mjölkbarhet automatiskt mätt i mjölkningsanläggningar :
Milkability or ease of milking, has higher importance today for Swedish dairy cattle producers after the introduction of milking parlours and automatic milking systems. Milkability is the cow?s ability to quickly milk out and be completely milked. There are several measures of milkability available. Today the farmer measures the traits subjectively in relation to the conformation scoring of the cow 30-270 days after her first calving.
Prediktiv validitet hos Assessment Centres: en studie av Assessment centre bedömningar utförda av PAT Management för Ericsson Mobile Platforms.
The purpose of this study was to investigate a Swedish assessment centre and more specifically the predictive validity of its assessments of ten managers from a Swedish technological company. The study was made by interviews with these managers' executives in order to find out how well their opinion about their employees matched the assessments made by the assessment centre consultants. The results showed that the congruence of the managers' strengths was 74% whereas that of their weaknesses was 59%..
Betesdrift för mjölkkor :
The Swedish Animal Welfare Act say that all milking cows must have access to pasture
in summer time. That was a gift to Astrid Lindgren o her 80th birthday from the Swedish
Government. Sweden is a predecessor in animal welfare, but how well do we live up to
these big expectations? In this thesis I will examine how well the pasture for milking
cows works.
I have been interviewing farmers with milking cows and people in the business. I have
also been searching information on Internet, and using the library of Alnarp.
Cows that are kept on pasture are exposed to different kind of parasites, but on the other
hand they run a smaller risk to getting acetonemi, pareses and udder infection.
Veterinary Pierre Nordmark means that cows on pasture are more healthy then cows
kept inside all summer.
Bristande mjölknedsläppning hos förstakalvare : en enkätstudie
Milk ejection in dairy cows can be inhibited if oxytocin is not released from the pituitary gland. The problem with inhibition of the milk let down is not new, but has recently regained interest. It is observed during different types of emotional stress, for example when cows are moved to an unfamiliar environment, during oestrus, changing from suckling to machine milking or when being milked for the first time.
The aim of the study was to examine the extent of cows with disturbed milk ejection in Sweden. A survey was sent out to 1000 dairy farmers in order to collect data about herd size, housing systems and routines at calving and milking.
"Bara att gilla läget" : Ungdomar i Södermöre och förhållandet till centralorten Kalmar
The purpose of this essay has been to find out how adolescents from Södermöre in the municipality of Kalmar experience the central place Kalmar. It has also been the intention to make clear, whether the relation between the adolescents and the central place Kalmar could be described as a centre-periphery-relation. The basis of this essay has been interviews of all together nine adolescents.A centre-periphery-situation can according to the theory be discovered by analyzing three categories: culture, economy and politics. If the centre dominates the periphery in one of these three categories, a centre-periphery-situation exists. The theory also says that the people living in the periphery experience less kinship with the people living in the centre. The adolescents from Södermöre showed to experience the central place Kalmar in a way, that can be described in five categories: travelling mostly by bus, unfair distribution of the resources of the municipality, political equality, social equality and the awareness of the central place Kalmar as the place ?where everything is located?.When it came to economy and politics, no indications of a centre-periphery-situation were found during the interviews with the adolescents.
Aspects on cow traffic and management on farms with automatic milking
This thesis consists of four case studies. The objective is to find out how to get a well functioning cow traffic in an automatic milking system. Different technical and building solutions are analysed and some adjustments are proposed for the DeLaval herd management software.
Case study 1: Lactation chart comparison from traditional cow traffic and Feed First? cow traffic
Case study 2: Farm A - a study of the precedence passage and the cow traffic
Case study 3: Farm B ? an overview of the farm and their way of working
Case study 4: Key factors ? how can we judge how well a VMS farm is working?
Case study 1: Lactation chart comparison from traditional cow traffic and Feed First? cow traffic
In this survey data is analysed from before and after rebuilding to Feed First? cow traffic. Lactation
graphs are compared between traditional cow traffic and Feed First? cow traffic.
Byggnads- och investeringskostnader : Robotmjölkning eller konventionell mjölkning?
This project is based on my fathers farm which lays outside Löberöd, twenty kilometres south
of Eslöv in Skåne.
While my family for some time have thought about building a new milkingstable with
AMS(Automatic milking system) I decided to compare the AMS with a conventional
milkingstable. We are abit concerned about how many cows we should have in the new
stable. Because of that I calculated with two different number of cows.
I have compared three different types of milking stables:
One alternative is 180 cows milked in a double eigth hearing bone milking stable.
The second alternative is 128 cows milked with two DeLaval VMS-robots.
The third alternative is 171 cows milked with three DeLaval VMS-robots.
One salesman from DeLaval and one salesman from A-betong helped me to get marketprices
on the milkingrobots, building, ventilation and prices on all the concrete. In all the costs
labour is included.
The rest of the costs are calculated in a softwareprogram called K-data 03 which is a program
with predicted costs. The calulations from the program showed that the price in the milkingpit
system was 51 000 sek per cow.
Effect of cow traffic system on cow performance and AMS capacity
Robotic milking in Automatic Milking systems (AMS) is proposed to reduce manual labour and at the same time increase milk yield by increasing milking frequency. In order to increase milking frequency, it is essential to have well-functioning cow traffic. Investing in an AMS is a great capital investment for the farmer, thus it is of major importance to ensure maximal AMS capacity. This study investigated the effect of the traffic systems Feed First? and Free cow traffic with and without waiting area (WA) on cow performance and AMS capacity.
Kaizen i praktiken inom Primärvården
The aim of the study was to support the ongoing kaizen work at a medical centre. Two main topics have been addressed in this study:? Find a solution to ensure that the kaizen decisions are followed and will get a strong grip in the organisation.? Support the kaizen process by giving advice on how to structure the meetingsand how the kaizen work could be done more effectively. The study started with a visit to the medical centre to observe the kaizen process and the attitudes among the employees. The employees were asked to fill in a survey about the kaizen work at the centre. The final recommendations given have been based on this and also information gathered from other medical centres which work after the same kaizen principles.
Folkbibliotekets roll på landsbygden och i staden
The purpose of this master?s thesis is to examine whether the role of a public library in a rural community is different from that of a town library. To answer this, a case studie of two public libraries has been made. Interviews, collection of documents and observations were carried out on location in one public library located in a rural area, and one public library, situated in a town. A modified version of an analysis model, originally developed by Andersson and Skot-Hansen, was used to analyse the data.
Biblioteksprofiler: kvalitativa fallstudier på tre folkbibliotek
The aim of this master?s thesis is to examine the roles ofthree different public libraries in three differentcommunities. In order to get some answers about the roles ofthe public libraries I have used the following questions: Howis the local cultural policy formulated? How is the locallibrary structured? What or which profiles has the publiclibraries in the three communities?I have made three qualitative case-studies in three differentcommunities. These three communities are somewhatlocated in the same area in order to identify any cooperationbetween them.
