Thoughts, feelings and experiences by students ? a study of motivation and mental health in the individual senior high school program

Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka elevers tankar, känslor och upplevelser av studier inom det individuella gymnasieprogrammet. Enligt tidigare forskning och enligt teorierna framgår det att elever som går det individuella programmet har negativa tankemönster, upplever psykisk ohälsa och depressiva symtom. I undersökningen har både kvantitativa och kvalitativa data analyserats. En enkätundersökning har skickats ut hos eleverna och två intervjuer har gjorts, en intervju med en lärare och en med en kurator. Resultatet visar höga procent av negativa tankemönster, depression och psykisk ohälsa hos eleverna.

Finnish student have for several years proved to be successful in reading in international studies. This interview based study aims to describe how teachers in Finnish schools for Swedish speaking children are relating to reading and reading education during the first two years of schooling. The result shows that reading, reading training and reading comprehension are natural elements in all teaching during the first two years in school and that teaching is based on students? ability and interest. The teachers claim that they provide the students with varying opportunities to practice different kinds of reading.

The aim of this Master?s thesis is to investigate if the reading habits of teacher students are influenced by merit and descent. The empiric material consists of six questionnaires answered by students at the teacher training with Swedish at the upper secondary school as their first topic. The questionnaire comprised questions about reading habits in the childhood and today and information concerning merits and descent.Pierre Bourdieu?s sociological ideas about cultural capital transmitted from parent to child and the concept of habitus are used as a theoretical framework regarding descent.

Can degree of degenerative brain disease be predicted with the help of measurements of cognitive deterioration?Alzheimer?s disease progresses through nerve cell break down in the brain and the simultaneous deterioration of the individual?s cognitive function. This disease is common among elderly persons. This thesis examines if the level of deterioration of cognitive function is associated with different biochemical and clinical markers for degenerative brain diseases. In addition, this thesis examines if the level of decline in cognitive functions vary between groups with different levels of degenerative brain disease.

Datalärares utbildning och yrkesbakgrund

 Syftet med den här studien är att undersöka vilka yrkes- och studiebakgrunder yrkesverksamma datalärare har och om olika bakgrund leder till skillnad i uppfattningar om deras yrke och utbildning. Dessutom syftar arbetet till att undersöka hur datalärare håller sina ämneskunskaper ajour och om det finns skillnader i fortbildning beroende på utbildning och yrkesbakgrund. För att besvara arbetets frågeställningar används en kartläggande kvantitativ enkätundersökning som besvaras av yrkesverksamma datalärare från hela landet. För att få fram resultaten görs vissa sambandsanalyser och dessutom presenteras deskriptiv statistik. Undersökningen visar att majoriteten av datalärarna saknar lärarbehörighet samt att ungefär hälften tidigare har arbetat utanför skola och har professionella tillämpningar inom sitt ämne.

Bättre två än en - men det går bra ändå : Unga mäns upplevelser av att drabbas av testikelcancer

Testikelcancer är den vanligaste cancersjukdomen som drabbar unga män i åldern 15-40 år. Syftet med studien var att belysa unga mäns upplevelser av att drabbas av testikelcancer. Studien genomfördes som en litteraturstudie där 15 vetenskapliga artiklar analyserades. Att få diagnosen cancer upplevs ofta som en förlust av kontroll då de flesta män lever i tron om att inget ont skulle kunna drabba dem. Resultatet visade att de flesta männen hade en stor okunskap om sjukdomen.

This report is a qualitative interview study which central content enlightens how movement and sports effects children?s performance in school. With the help of five different teachers in three different schools questions like; how does movement effect the performance of children in school? Have been answered.Lots of research and litterateur shows that children is doing better physical and mental, the concentration level is improved and the performance in school is better when exposed to more movement, also there are less conflicts and the students gets better motor skills.Comparison with the ?Bunkefloproject? has been done, which was a project in the south of Sweden where they let the children have physical education every day and then they examined how this effected their performance in school. With this basis this report will examine the teachers view on the subject.The result shows that the teachers think that there should be more movement in the daily schedule for the children because they seam to be more happy and concentrates better after movement.

Elevers geografiska omvärldsbilder : en studie av hur elever i år 6 uppfattar det geografiska rummet.

Denna studie är en undersökning av hur elever i år 6 uppfattade det geografiska rummet, vilka omvärldsbilder elever i skolan innehade, hur de påverkades av olika intryck från omgivningen samt om elevernas omvärldsbilder förändrades under en termin. Att inneha en omvärldsbild innebär att ha en föreställning om hur den rumsliga världen ser ut och förhåller sig. Undersökningen var av empirisk art och bestod av en namngeografisk undersökning av geografiska objket i Sverige, elevernas ritade bilder av världen, intervjufrågor samt en kartförståelseuppgift. Studien genomfördes vid två olika tillfällen för att se på eventuella förändringar i elevernas omvärldsbilder. Studien visade på att elevernas omvärldsbilder påverkades, utvecklades och innehöll all den information individen mötte och hade med sig sedan tidigare om den rumsliga världen.

Stegintegrering- billigt och bra? : Hur stegintegrering i Moderna språk på gymnasieskolan påverkar inlärningen och undervisningen ur ett lärar- och elevperspektiv

This essay discusses the subjective observations and opinions on the Swedish concept of stegintegrering, a form of mixed grade education in the subject modern languages at upper secondary level. I interviewed two headmasters, four teachers and conducted an online survey with 39 pupils in order to find out what effects the concept of stegintegrering has on teaching and learning from a teacher and pupil perspective. Due to the extent of this essay no general conclusions can be made but certain connections could be found. For once there was a connection between group size and the possibility of teaching each group separately during one lesson per week and the attitude of the concerned teachers and pupils towards stegintegrering. While both headmasters and teachers claimed that the cooperation between pupils across all levels was the main purpose of stegintegrering as it helps their learning and understanding, my study showed that many pupils did not really want to cooperate and that teachers often find it hard to construct tasks that stimulate every group.

Går det att förbättra barns matematiska förståelse inför skolstart? : En studie om tidig matematisk stimulans av sexåriga barns förståelse för tallinjen 1-10.

Studie är baserad på Siegler & Ramani (2008) ?Playing linear numerical board games promotes low-income child­ren´s numerical development?. Syfte är att undersöka om det med intensivträning (i form av ett linjärt tärningsspel) går att stimulera sexåriga barns talförståelse inom talområdet 1-10. Metoderna som valts är fältexperiment och observation. Fält­experimentet påvisar att intensivträning med ett tärningsspel, utfört under 4 stycken 15 minuters lektioner under en tvåveckors period, tydligt kan förbättra barns talförståelse medan observationen visar att utfallet påverkas av pedagogens olika yrkesverktyg samt undervis­ningens organisation (en-till-en undervisning).

The paper examines Philosophy with children as a pedagogical method for schools to practice. The questions I have posed are:Why philosophize with children and teenagers?How does Philosophy with children work?What, in the organized structure of the philosophical inquiry, can be emphasized as favourable for learning?How carefully is the structure of the philosophical inquiry really followed in practice?How can philosophy be applied as a pedagogical model?The theoretical framework of this inquiry consists of a discussion about a thirst for learning that exceeds the explicit and direct usability that motivates vocational training.I have used two different kinds of methods. The main method is a literary analysis of some of the literature in this field. This analysis is compared to field observations of children participating in communities of inquiry in school.The basic assumption is that practicing the ability of philosophical thinking can help children develop a more profound way of understanding who they are and how the world in which they exist works.
