This thesis studies whether private equity owned firms within the Swedish welfare sector distinguish themselves in terms of tax planning and short-termism from a control group consisting of other privately owned welfare firms. For the first time, the comparison is made on the entire welfare sector, between 14 Matched pairs within education, health care and elderly care. We use financial metrics associated with tax planning and short-termism in sign tests to examine whether the private equity owned firms differ from our control group. The financial metrics tested are actual and paid tax rates, level of interest, book-tax gap, investments, personnel expenses per employee, and cash earnings. We find that the private equity owned firms in terms of tax planning only differ in the level of interest, while no notable differences are found in terms of short-termism..

Pairs trading is a relatively new trading strategy, the strategy has only been used during a couple of decades. A study made on the American stock market has shown that the strat-egy has generated a positive result. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate if pairs trad-ing has been able to create a positive result on the Swedish stock market during the time period of 1995-2004.The data required for this thesis was collected from Stockholm stock exchange and is ad-justed for splits and issues.The pairs trading strategy involves two stages ? identification of pairs and trading signals. The pairs were identified during a period of 12 months.

A speech-based material that early can assess a child's hearing is needed to provide an indication of a hearing impaired child's language development. Being able to identify and discriminate between different sounds is a requirement for interpreting speech. Hearing assessments that examine speech perception can therefore, unlike, for example, pure tone audiometry, examine a hearing impaired child's perceptual language skills and provide a basis for intervention.The purpose of this work is to evaluate a new auditory material on 3-year-old children. The auditory material is based on the Ling-6-sounds and the main question was which of the sounds in the test were adequate for test of discrimination. Furthermore, it was investigated how the test works with children aged 3:0?3:11 years and how age and gender affect the result.Twenty-four children aged 3:0?3:11 years were tested using a computer based test.

Ribs from sheep, goat and pig are rarely assessed  to species due to the fact that they are very similar in their morphology and size. The ribs are instead considered unidentifiable although it is possible to see what kind of bone it is. If these ribs would be identified to species not only would species assessment degree of archaeological source material   increase, the relationship between meat-rich and meat poor regions would change.To find out whether there are morphologically measurable differences between sheep, goat and pig ribs, three measurement points on each rib has been defined and measured. At each measurement point two measurements were measured, one medial-lateral measurement and one cranial-caudal measurement. The ratio between the medial- lateral measurement and the cranial-caudal measurement was calculated for each point.

ABSTRACTAbout 17% of all deliveries in Akademiska Sjukhuset end with caesarean section. The purpose of the survey was to study parental pairs experience to undergo a caesarean section and experience of information about surgery. The aim was also to see if there were differences between those undergoing a planned or an emergency caesarean section, as well as differences between the birthing women and their partners. 100 couples participated in the study and answered a questionnaire 1-3 days after they had undergone surgery. The result showed that the vast majority of parental pairs were satisfied with the information they received before the caesarean section.

Over the last decades, language in the public sector has changed due to influence from New public management. In this thesis, I seek to investigate librarians? attitudes towards a more businesslike way of speaking about libraries, referred to here as management-speak. For this purpose, I?ve used a modified version of the matched guise technique.

In Sweden you will find the coot chiefly in the southern parts. The species winters in the southern part of the Baltic Sea and along the coasts of northern Europe. The number of coots is heavily decreased by harsh winters. The population of the coots in Sweden is estimated to 20 000 to 30 000 pairs. The region of Dalarna is the random zone for the breeding of coots in Sweden .

Denna uppsats är en attitydinriktad genusstudie med fokus på internetkommentarer. Det huvudsakliga syftet är att ta reda på om det finns skillnader i hur människor uppfattar en manlig kommentarsskribent jämfört med en kvinnlig och om dessa skillnader går att knyta till genus, samt om de överensstämmer med tidigare liknande forskning. Metod och material i undersökningen är enkäter inspirerade av matched guise-tekniken, som delats ut till 60 försökspersoner där hälften är män och hälften är kvinnor. I enkäten får försökspersonerna läsa två olika kommentarer där den ena är undertecknad en man och den andra en kvinna. Hypotesen för undersökningen är att tydliga skillnader i uppfattningar av den manliga skribenten jämfört med en kvinnliga ska synas, och därmed följa ett snarlikt mönster som tidigare undersökningar av samma slag.

Eftersom det råder osäkerhet kring hur avkastningen mellan etiska och traditionella fonder skiljer sig åt på den svenska marknaden, undersöker uppsatsen detta förhållande. Jämförelsen består av åtta fonder, där de fyra fonder är etiska och fyra fonder är traditionella. Fonderna har matchats med varandra enligt matched-pair analysis för att säkerställa att det är avkastningen som mäts och att inga yttre faktorer som kan påverka avkastningen inkluderas. Vidare har två statistiska t-test genomförts för att undersöka huruvida resultatet från jämförelsen kan besvara frågeställningen i uppsatsen. De statistiska t-testen har utgått från ett större stickprov som består av 32 fonder, 16 etiska och 16 traditionella, även där matchades fonderna enligt matched-pair analysis.
