Röntgenläkarna väljer ofta att byta undersökningsteknik för att fastställa misstänkt patologi som inte går att diagnostisera med en metod. Vid röntgenundersökningar av sinus (bihålor) så kan läkaren välja mellan konventionell röntgen eller en datortomografiundersökning. Skälet är att diagnoser som tumör, benpåverkan eller ansiktstrauma inte avbildas lika bra med den konventionella metoden. Syftet med den här studien är att jämföra datotomografi och konventionell röntgen vid sinusundersökningar, vilka för och nackdelar som de olika metoderna har, hur bildinformationen och diagnostiken skiljer sig, vilka risker som finns med joniserad strålning samt vilka biologiska effekter strålningen har på människan. Intervju har gjorts med odontologi läkare som berättat om för och nackdelar med de olika metoderna, och litteratur och artiklar har gett kunskap för att komma fram till resultatet.

MARIA HEDIN, CIVILINGENJÖRSPROGRAMMET, Ergonomisk design och produktion MARIA MARKLUND, TEKNOLOGIE MAGISTEREXAMEN, Industriell design Examensarbetet har utförts inom programmen Industriell design samt Ergonomisk design och produktion vid Luleå tekniska universitet under en period av 20 veckor i oktober 2006 till februari 2007. Uppgiften var att utveckla koncept för ett lyfthjälpmedel till den MultiTask-cell (MTC) som nyligen installerats i Volvo Aeros produktion i Trollhättan. Cellen består av fem MultiTask-maskiner vilket innebär att varje maskin kan utföra alla nödvändiga operationer (borrning, svarvning, fräsning etc.). I maskinerna bearbetas detaljer till flygmotorer med hjälp av verktyg som till största delen hanteras av industrirobotar. När den bearbetande delen på verktygen ska bytas sker däremot hanteringen manuellt av operatörerna. I MTC:n finns ett område speciellt avsett för byte av den bearbetande delen på verktyg, även kallat ställning av verktyg.

This essay seeks to analyze the consequences of modern information and communication technology for collective action within the framework of social movements. With references to the protests in Seattle 1999, the essay argues that the emergence of distributed collective action is closely related to the use of technology, for example cell phones and Internet. This distributed collective action can be characterized by its decentralized and self-organizing features, forming a global pattern emerging from local interactions. Whereas contemporary theories of collective action can be ´stretched´ to fit these aspects, they lack analytical tools to describe and analyze such systems. Further, their rejection of classical crowd theory is problematic, since it contains valuable insights.

Ett fysiskt handikapp kan innebära stora begränsningar i livet. För de som sitter i rullstol kan det vara mycket svårt eller till och med omöjligt att förflytta sig dit de vill och få uppleva aktiviteter som personer utan handikapp tar för givet. Det här kandidatarbetet har haft som syfte att ta fram en handikappanordning som ska göra det möjligt för rullstolsburna att kunna ta sig ombord och iland från fritidsbåtar. Det finns redan olika lösningar på marknaden som syftar till att möjliggöra en sådan förflyttning, men målet med det här arbetet har varit att ta fram en lösning som är annorlunda jämfört med de befintliga lösningarna framförallt vad gäller möjligheten till att använda den från båten istället för från kaj, samt att den ska kunna installeras till en rimlig kostnad och dess design ska passa flertalet fritidsbåtar utan alltför stora krav på båtens utformning. Det viktigaste kravet på produkten är att den ska vara säker att använda. Det får inte föreligga någon risk för personskada.

Bakgrund. Vid tumörresektion i de orofaryngeala vävnaderna, utförs mandibulotomi för att skapa åtkomst och möjliggöra kirurgiskt avlägsnande. Allvarliga komplikationer har rapporterats i litteraturen och bidragande orsaker är den kirurgiska tekniken, strålningsterapin samt en inskränkt näringstillförsel till mandibelkroppen. Syfte. Syftet med denna studie var att undersöka om bevarande av periost vid utförande av mandibulotomi, leder till färre patienter med komplikationer relaterade till mandibulotomin.. Metod. Patienter som genomgick mandibulotomi mellan 2003-2012 vid Skånes Universitetssjukhus granskades retrospektivt.

Can degree of degenerative brain disease be predicted with the help of measurements of cognitive deterioration?Alzheimer?s disease progresses through nerve cell break down in the brain and the simultaneous deterioration of the individual?s cognitive function. This disease is common among elderly persons. This thesis examines if the level of deterioration of cognitive function is associated with different biochemical and clinical markers for degenerative brain diseases. In addition, this thesis examines if the level of decline in cognitive functions vary between groups with different levels of degenerative brain disease.

The company develops and produces fuel cells amongst other products, which have emerged during their research and development in the fuel cell technology. Cellkraft works in a high?tech frontline market where innovation is key.

Today, there are more than 12 000-14 000 farms worldwide using an automatic milking system (AMS). Studies have shown that transition to AMS affects the udder health of cows adversely, recognized primarily as elevated somatic cell counts. There are several reasons for this, for example the greater variation in milking frequency seen in AMS. On one hand, short milking intervals may lead to bad teat condition of the cows due to the stress the milking procedure exposes the teats to. Too long milking intervals, on the other hand, seem to predispose for milk leakage, which is, in turn, a risk factor for the development of mastitis.

It is believed that factors such as chronic trauma, infections, medications and hormones affect the cell mechanisms in some way. Determinants of the malignancy of the tumour are not completely known.

Denna projektrapport är avsedd att vara ett hjälpmedel för SiCell, en del av SciLifeLab Uppsala som ska bli Europas första plattform för enkelcellgenomik till hösten 2013. SiCell har bett projektgruppen om undersökningar gällande ett Laboratory Information Management System, LIMS. På svenska ett datahanteringsystem för laboratorier. Ett sådant system skulle kunna effektivisera SiCells verksamhet. Undersökningarna har resulterat i en kravspecifikation som ett LIMS för SiCell ska uppfylla och en sammanställning av tillgängliga mjukvaror som bäst uppfyller dessa krav.

A numerical simulation case involving space plasma and the evolution of instabilities that generates very fast electrons, i.e. approximately at half of the speed of light, is used as a test bed for scientific visualisation techniques. A visualisation system was developed to provide interactive real-time animation and visualisation of the simulation results. The work focuses on two themes and the integration of them. The first theme is the storage and management of the large data sets produced.

Feline odontoclastic resorptive lesion (FORL) is a tooth disease affecting both domestic and wild cats. Although FORL was described as early as the 1920´s, the etiology is still unclear. Several hypotheses have been presented but different studies have obtained contradictory results, and today there is no generally accepted etiology. Teeth affected by FORL are characterized by root resorption with progressive destruction of the tooth structure and alveolar bone as a consequence of clast cell activity. The disease is considered very painful when reaching a certain stage.

Background: Patients with cancer of the lung have to endure a quantity of physical, psychological and social difficulties. In their exposed position they are in need of help and support to pull through the situation. With the knowledge of factors effecting lung cancer patients? quality of life, it will be easier to give the help and support they need. Aim: The aim of this study was to describe factors effecting lung cancer patients quality of life from the patient?s perspective.

The PhonePages of Sweden is a company that develops software for mobile units, especially cell phones. This thesis treats the development of, and contingencies for, a mobile phone directory, using the limited resources found in a mobile unit. The project was implemented and executed at The PhonePages with the intention of creating a product to sell to a third party.By studying different solutions, their benefits and drawbacks, an abstract picture of the product was constructed. Problems covered include compatibility problems caused by todays platform diversity as well as problems with saving, organizing and presenting data.The main goal was to create a phone directory which does not make external information retrievals. The service should contain both company and personal information, with name and phonenumber.
