Weaning is one of the most critical events in the piglet production with problems such as growth check and post-weaning diarrhea as a result. The lighter the piglets are when the growth check occurs, the harder they have to get back to normal growth rate. Creep feeding of piglets is used to reduce the problems by increasing the weaning weight and adapting the digestive tract to a starter diet. Hodge (1974) showed that the sow?s milk can not provide enough nutrients for maximal growth rate.

The impact of the distribution in the soil volume of two farm manures on the net mineralization and immobilization processes of nitrogen were studied in an incubation experiment. Cattle slurry and broiler litter were placed in the soil with three procedures for incorporation including placement on top of the soil (TOP), in the middle of the soil (MID) and mixed homogenously with the soil (MIX). During the two weeks of incubation, few significant differences in net mineralization were seen between TOP, MID and MIX. However, there was a tendency that MIX led to a larger net immobilization of N than placement at one point (TOP and MID). This is also the result in the literature.

Oxytocin is today widely spoken of as a "feel good" hormone. Recent research has increased interest in the hormone and its role in social and sexual interactions, as well as its importance for complex behavioral patterns. There is evidence that oxytocin is released during physical contact and is said to suppress anxiety and stress. In animals and humans, oxytocin, which is a neuropeptide and likewise a hormone, is necessary for parturition and lactation. Synthesis of oxytocin occurs in brain neurons and in specific organs involved in reproduction.

During the late 1800s fire suppression became increasingly effective in northern Sweden which led to decreased areas of fire-disturbed woodland and successive changes in the structure of forests. In the long run this can pose a serious threat to fire-dependent and fire-favored species. Today some fire-prone forest reserves are burned as a nature conservation act. Often partial cuttings are made before burning, with somewhat different motives. The purpose of the study in LÃ¥ngsidberget nature reserve was to give a general picture of forest history and its affect on today?s forest condition, and to show how partial cuttings affect burning conditions and results. LÃ¥ngsidberget is located close to areas that were colonized during the Middle Ages.

Arbetet är en kvalitativ litteraturstudie som undersöker hur den klassiska svenska arbetarlitteraturen behandlas i gymnasieskolans läroböcker. Materialet utgörs av textavsnitten om arbetarförfattare i två olika läroböcker som används i litteraturundervisningen på gymnasiet varav den ena textnivå- och stilmässigt verkar rikta sig till elever som befinner sig på en något högre kunskapsmässig nivå. Studien visar  att de båda läroböckerna har varierande sätt att framställa genren arbetarlitteratur och särskilt särskiljande är det språk och den pedagogiska stil läroboksförfattarna använder. Flera gemensamma beröringspunkter förekommer, såsom exempelvis den rika användningen av citat vilket verkar vara ett pedagogiskt grepp som syftar till att fånga kontentan av ett visst arbetarverk eller författarskap. Författarurvalet är likartat i de båda läroböckerna, och högst sannolikt inspirerat av den rådande kanon som presenteras i vedertagna litteraturhistorieskrivningar vilka utgörs av bl a läroböcker för högre eftergymnasiala studier.

A study was made to evaluate how current measurementscould help to determine how particles from fish farms are dispersed. During sixweeks of the summer 2012, two different current measurements were conducted.One of them consisted of measurements each fifth minute at 5 m and 15 m atthree locations for 14-16 days each. The other consisted of profilemeasurements at each location at four times during the period of six weeks. Forthe current measurements two instruments (model RCM 9) were used. A two weekmeasurement can give enough data to make an evaluation of how the currents at alocation will transport litter from a fish farm.

AbstractThis research is about how some swedish teachers in high school choose literature in schools. The purpose is to underline the reasons for how some teachers think about selection, canon, classic and contemporary literature. Two survey methods were used to find the answers, wich consisted of interviews and questionnaires. The letter methods was used to obtain informations about student´s views on literature.Previous research shows that there are different opinions in what kind of literature the pupils should read in school. The results of literature, questionnaires and interviews also showed that the underlying reasons for the choice of literature, varied among those interviewed further forward ofthe students also prefer to read books during lessons, and that they prefer reading books by popular contemporary writers..

In order to run a viable sheepproduction, producers needs to be successful in the breeding of the animals and achievean economic surplus in the end. Lambs that are born healthy and vital have greaterconditions to perform high lamb weight gains and thus a successful production. Thereare many factors affect the survival, birth weight and early weight gain of the new bornlamb.

Denna undersökning tar sin utgåmgspunkt i det förlag som folkpartisten Cecilia Wikström lade sommaren 2006 om att införa en litterär kanon, obligatorisk skönlitteratur, i skolundervisningen. Undersökningen baseras på fem kvalitativa intervjuer med svensklärare på gymnasiet. Syftet är att se om det finns någon skillnad i det förhållningssätt läraren har i sitt urval av skönlitteratur, beroende på vilka elever det är som ska undervisas. Resultatet vi kom fram till är att det mångkulturella perspektivet inte är något som informanterna i vår undersökning tar någon hänsyn till när de väljer skönlitteratur, trots att Lpf 94 föreskriver att elever ska få ta del av det egna kulturarvet. Slutsatsen är att det förslag som Wikström (fp) lade om att införa en gemensam referensram inte är genomförbart om hänsyn samtidigt ska tas till alla enskilda individers kulturarv..

Uppsatsens syfte är att undersöka om det är möjligt att mäta gymnasieelevers förkunskaper i historieämnet genom ett didaktiskt prov. Min undersökning visar att ett didaktiskt prov i historia är genomförbart. Vilken typ av kunskap som ska bedömas kan utläsas genom kursplanerna, trots deras vaga föreskrifter om innehållet i historieämnet. Därtill verkar det finnas en samsyn bland historielärarna om det centrala stoffet för historieämnet ? en tyst kanon.

A reward cycle for investigating the emotional status in animals has been developed and it requires that animals go through three main phases, i.e. anticipation, consumption and relaxation. The reward cycle has not been tested previously for access to play in pigs. Therefore, the aim of this Master thesis was to investigate if growing pigs showed more behaviours indicative of excitement than pigs that were not allowed to play, performed play in a play arena and showed more behaviours indicative of relaxation after play when they were back to their home pen than pigs that were in their home pen the whole time. Forty undocked piglets (10 litters of Specific Pathogen Free half pure-bred Yorkshire and half hybrids of Yorkshire x Landrace balanced for breed between two treatments were used.

In 1993, Sweden signed the Convention on Biological Diversity and thus agreed to conserve our indigenous biological diversity. As a part of the convention, Sweden is obliged to conserve a number of domestic animal breeds and among them the Linderöd pig. In 1952, the zoo, Skånes Djurpark, took care of a pregnant sow that was regarded to be related to the old "forest pig". The old forest pig was thought to have been extinguished by the early 20th century as a result of the ban on boars not approved by state inspectors. However, according to later accounts, several farmers still kept some of these non-approved pigs.

SammanfattningSyftet med denna uppsats har varit att undersöka om kravet på identitetsskapande, som ingår i Lpf 94 kan kopplas till romanläsning inom ramen för Svenska B. För att uppfylla detta har jag undersökt hur gymnasieelever tolkar romankaraktärer och hur denna tolkning kan kopplas till den egna identiteten. För att undersöka detta har gymnasieelever fått läsa en roman och sedan vid tre olika tillfällen skrivit texter som relaterar till en vald romankaraktär ur romanen.Resultatet av denna undersökning visar att eleverna ser romankaraktärer som verkliga människor. Eleverna relaterar även sina egna liv till romankaraktärerna, särskilt om åldern överensstämmer. Familjeförhållanden framstår som viktiga för elevernas egna identiteter.

Feline asthma is a condition very similar to the respiratory disease affecting humans. It is causing, among other things, a constriction of the bronchial airways, an increase of mucus production and damage to, or erosion of, the epithelial membrane. The symptoms occur intermittently and do, in most cases, evolve during a long period of time. The aim of this essay was to investigate whether there are any nursing routines for feline patients with asthma in animal clinics and animal hospitals in Sweden, and if so, to compare similarities and differences. A literary study of research material also led to a suggestion of how to form a nursing routine for this type of patient.
