The purpose of this study is to examine if digital public libraries are serendipitous environments. Serendipity in this instance is defined as finding something unexpected and valuable, while searching for something else.A survey was conducted at two Swedish digital public libraries, where the patrons were asked to fill in a questionnaire online. The questions were based on the work on serendipitous digital environments by Lori McCay-Peet, as well as considerations of human factors that could possibly influence serendipity.The result indicate that a majority of patrons experience serendipity at the digital Library, although it?s still more common to do so at the physical Library or on other web sites. The result also confirms the importance of taking human factors into account when studying serendipity.

The purpose of this study is to describe and analyzes how the bookmobile librarians approach to purchase and selection and the range of views that may exist. The study is based on a qualitative method using a document study and three interviews included. The document study looking closely at public libraries Library plans in Vastra Gotalands county. The qualitative interviews gets a closer look at librarians´approach regarding the purchase and selection and also if there are any similarities or differences between mobile Library activities versus the main Library.The theoretical framework is based on Sanna Taljas study where she has identified three different perspectives on the Library´s music department. These are categorized as the interpretative repertoires and involves three categories of approach to quality.

The purpose of this masters thesis is to find out whether the Library can be a way to support integration. To fulfil this purpose we have, by qualitative interviews, obtained information about eight immigrant womens views on and experiences of the Swedish public Library. Through the literature and earlier research we have presented a background of immigrants and integration in Sweden along with factors that may influence the integration process. We have tried to give an insight into what is said about the immigrant woman in research and media, which we think affects her life and we also have given a short introduction to immigrant womens life in Sweden today. Of great interest for our essay have also been the public Librarys objectives and social role in society.

The purpose of this Bachelor?s thesis is to describe and analyze the implementation of Facebook in a public Library. A case study consisting of qualitative interviews and studies of documents containing goals for the Library has been conducted at a public Library going through the process of implementing Facebook in their operations. The theoretical framework for this study consists of Everett M. Rogers?s stages of the innovation-decision process and his characteristics of innovations as perceived by individuals.

The focus of this thesis is the Library at the Swedish school in Berlin, Germany. Being a school in a foreign country, and playing a role also as a public Library, the conditions for the Library are somewhat unusual. Considering those conditions, how should the Library be organised and developed to meet the users' needs in the best way possible? To put the Library in Berlin into a greater perspective, the first chapters of the thesis are dedicated to the issue of school libraries in Sweden; their historical development, their importance in the school curriculum and their present situation. Swedish research in the field of school libraries is presented and includes descriptions of theoretical analysing models.

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to describe in part the public Library users?process when deciding which books to borrow. Focus is on the Library users?experience of the process and how literature exposure can support them intheir choice of book. This study seeks to find out to what extent choices arespontaneously made at the Library, which elements of exposure that the userfinds helpful in the process and which factors usually influence the user infinding new things to read.The data was gathered through 100 structured interviews with public Libraryusers.

The purpose of this master's thesis is to examine and compare the process of starting a school Library at schools which haven't had a school Library before, and to examine and compare the experience of this process according to the principals and the persons responsible for the school Library.I have examined two Swedish independent primary schools (age 6-15 years). I have made qualitative interviews with the principals and the persons responsible for the new school Library. In all, I have made seven interviews. As requested by the new Swedish Educational Act, both schools had recently started creating school libraries. One of the schools had recruited a half-time teacher-librarian and the other had no staffing at all.In the interviews, I have examined the attitudes of the informants towards school libraries, if this attitude has changed during the process of starting the school Library, the informants' experiences during this process and the informants' views on the school Library as an agent for student achievement.
