Abstract A phenomenon that has been noticed more and more in media and the public space in recent years is what is called guerrilla gardening. It means the illicit cultivation of someone else?s land. This report's intention is to analyze what impact guerrilla gardening could have on today's urban space in terms of stable changes in norms and physical design. I have also focused on guerrilla gardener?s choice to carry out these actions illegally, without asking for permission, and what impact that could have on the issue of appropriating public space.

This thesis is a study of spatial practice and literary depictions of homes in novels by Elsie Johansson, Kerstin Thorvall and Kristina Sandberg. The theoretical perspective is based on Henri Lefebvre´s view on social space, and on the concept of spatial practice. Research questions are: What homes are depicted? How does spatial practice function in the texts? How does the depictedspatial practice relate to norms and ideals?The novels, published 1993-2014, depict an interesting period in Swedish history (cirka 1920-1970) when politics and society at large was deeply involved in reshaping the homes and lives of Swedish citizens. The aim was to turn the citizens into new, healthy and rational parts of the new and rational society.

Projektet utgår från två böcker; Momo-eller kampen om tiden av Michael Ende och Ojämlikhetens nya geografi av David Harvey. De två böckerna har varit motorer för hur en ny cirkushall i Alby för Cirkör utformats. Rummen som Momo rör sig genom i berättelsen har fått stå som förebilder för det givna programmets rum, Harveys bok har sedan bredatt projektet i en mer teoretisk riktning; det är mer än bara den fysiska byggnaden som avgör hur vi förstår byggnaden..

Syftet i denna uppsats är att få djupare förståelse för studenters visioner angående det goda campusrummet och om hur appropriationen, produktionen och reproduktionen av campusrummet ser ut. En strävan är också att få en djupare förståelse för hur makt påverkar rummets konstruktion och hur makten gör sig gällande i det redan byggda rummet. Det empiriska materialet är insamlat genom intervjupromenader i campusrummet på Åbo Akademi i Finland, främst i det nybyggda humanistcentret Arken. Uppsatsen är uppdelad i en teoridel och en empirisk del. Materialet har tolkats genom en fenomenologisk deskriptiv ansats och en hermeneutisk tolkande teknik med hjälp av Henri Lefebvres rumstriad.

This essay intervenes in the politics of urban segregation in Stockholm. The main aim of the essay is to analyze and describe how advanced marginality and territorial stigmatization are expressed in the lived experiences of four unemployed youths, that have participated in a labor market training program located in the ?social vulnerable? area Rågsved. With a theoretical framework based in Henri Lefebvre?s production of social space the empirical findings are interpreted in regard to how the youths produce social space in dialectical interplay with urban politics, advanced marginality, territorial stigmatization, and their local neighborhood.

The purpose with this essay is to examine and create an understanding for what meaning graffiti and street art has for those who practice it. Furthermore, the practice of graffiti and street art is seen in relation to how urban space is produced. Five semi-structured interviews and one group interview has been made to answer the questions "What meaning does graffiti and street art has for those who practice it? Can it be seen as a way to construct identity?" "How do the artists relate to existing ideals about public space?" and "Does the artists see graffiti and street art as a resistance against the normative representation of the city, in that case, how?" The theoretical framework consists of Mitchell's ideas about public space, Tonkiss' definition of social order, Lefebvre's spatial triad, de Certeau's concept of strategy and tactics, the concept of appropriation and Castell's theory about collective identity. The results showed that the practice of graffiti and street art can be understood as a more complex practice than earlier research has shown.

The aim of this master's thesis is to study how the design of the music library space affects how it is used and its role as an arena for culture. This is done in form of a case study of Library 10 in Helsinki, a public library branch that specializes in music and information technology. The backdrop to the study is the changing context for cultural activity in the information society and the role of public libraries as public space and meeting place. By analyzing the distribution of space in the library, the distribution of functions and artefacts and the spatial use of the room, I interpret the ways in which this distributional logic produces a unique place for music and culture. I discuss the music library design in a space and place perspective, utilizing theoretical tools from cultural geography and the space theories of Henri Lefebvre.

Denna uppsats handlar om offentliga rum, med inriktning på fysiska offentliga platser i stadsmiljö, vem och vad som får finnas och synas där, med koppling till växtanvändande av stadens invånare. Vi tar upp teorier om offentligheten av bland annat Jürgen Habermas, Henri Lefebvre, Claude Lefort, Michel Foucault, Nancy Fraser, Don Mitchell och Margaret Crawford. Detta görs främst genom Catharina Gabrielssons och Lina Olssons arbeten, men också genom ett flertal andra studier på området. Vi tar upp sju olika exempel på hur stadens invånare gör avtryck och utrycker sig med växter som material på den offentliga platsen i staden. Vidare reflekterar vi över och resonerar kring de teorier om offentliga rum vi i uppsatsen tar upp.

Studien är en analys av Elin Wägners Norrtullsligan (1908) och Pennskaftet (1910) ur ett rumsligt perspektiv, med inriktning på genus. Syftet är att fördjupa läsningen av romanerna samt relatera dem till sin tids- och samhällskontext. Romanerna utspelar sig i medelklassmiljöer i Stockholm under tidigt 1900-tal, och handlar om kvinnor som omformulerar sina roller ochengagerar sig i bättre villkor. De centrala frågorna är: Hur gestaltas, representeras och diskuteras rum och stad i romanerna? Vilka rum använder karaktärerna och hur använder de dem? Den teoretiska utgångpunkten är att kombinera litteraturvetenskap med rumsteori, inspirerad av Alexandra Borgs avhandling En vildmark av sten (2011).

This bachelor essay aims to illuminate different images and ideas about Bellevue industrial area.The area is situated in a district in Gothenburg, called Gamlestaden, where Bellevue industrialarea is a former industrial area, today mostly used by minor occupations. The district is facing amajor transformation, based on a detailed master plan. One aim is to create a district with mixedfunctions; like residences, businesses, offices, services and cultural activities all together. Thisessay is based mainly from a user perspective, but it also has the perspective from the ideas andvisions by the City Planning Office.The material is mainly based on interviews with seven informants, representing different kinds ofoccupations in the area. One interview is also made with a city planner.

Market capitalism sets the conditions for how the world is conceived, experienced and organized at various spatial scales (global to local). Currently, competitiveness, entrepreneurship and economic growth are key values that shape how the world is conceived, experienced and organized. Discourses of place marketing, place branding, and the construction of places as (economic) products, are part and parcel of the heightened commodification of space. Tourism has been a major factor in the commodification of place and space. More often than not, tourism has been seen as a possibility for peripheral places, in their struggle finding new ways towards development.

Begravningsplatser är områden som upptar stora ytor av stadens rum men som kansägas vara något förbisedda i samhällsplaneringen. Det finns få studier, speciellt i ensvensk kontext, som har studerat begravningsplatsens rumsliga praktik. Studiensövergripande syfte har varit att undersöka begravningsplatsen roll i staden med Norrabegravningsplatsen i Solna kommun som utgångspunkt. För att göra detta på ettmeningsfullt sätt inspirerades analysen av Henri Lefebvres rumsskapande teori som serrummet som en helhet där det uppfattade, tänkta och det levda samspelar för att skapaplatsen. Teorin influerade i sin tur de använda metoderna som bestod av djupintervjueroch intervjuer med besökare, ostrukturerade och strukturerade observationer samtdokumentanalys.

Malmö has often been described as a segregated city, with relatively low democratic participation and high poverty and alienation. Behind this kind of statements we often find a material reality, with unequal distribution of assets and potentials that needs to be taken into consideration for political action. At the same time this categorisation of people into different groups can take stigmatising effects and result in increased inequality.I find the theoretical basis for my thesis in Lefebvre?s writings on ?the right to the city?, that shortly means that all inhabitants of a city have the right to take active part in the constantly ongoing process of producing and reproducing the city ? on all levels, from a hands-on everyday life level to a more abstract political level.With an interdisciplinary approach, where the right to the city is discussed in relation to citizenship, presence, representation and public space, I try to understand the connections between democracy, participation, justice and equality. These discussions are then applied to examples from Malmö; both publically initiated projects and individual physical markings in the city.

Uppsatsen är en rumslig läsning av Ulla Isakssons Kvinnohuset (1952) där romanens rumsliga aspekter och Huset som motiv undersöks med narratologiska verktyg. Romanen diskuteras också utifrån rollteori och sin ideologiska kontext i det socialdemokratiska välfärdssamhället.Romanen kretsar kring några av de kvinnor som bor i ?Huset? - ett kollektivhus för självförsörjande kvinnor. Triangeldramat mellan Tryggve (en regissör med en våning på Stan), Anna (som är hans fru men bor i Huset) och Eva (en skådespelerska och Tryggves nya älskarinna) är centralt i romanen då Tryggve ordnar en lägenhet åt Eva i Huset.Studien visar att det i Kvinnohuset finns en stark sammanlänkning av rumslig, social och känslomässig ordning. De rum de olika kvinnorna tillskrivs hjälper till att definiera både dem själva och deras relationer - i romanen finns det ett tematiserat samband mellan den plats där kärleksrelationer utspelas och den karaktär dessa relationer har.
