I norra London startade, den sjätte augusti 2011, ett av de största upploppen i modern tid. Syftet med denna teoretiska uppsats är att - inspirerat av londonupploppen - diskutera olika teoretiska sätt att förklara och förstå händelserna ifråga, med särskild fokus på relationen mellan strukturellt och direkt våld. Styrande teman är socialt utanförskap, skam och vanmakt. Analysen indikerar att det sociala utanförskap som strukturellt våld och relativ deprivation skapar är grogrunden för vanmakt och skam ? två känslor som är intimt förknippade med direkt våld.

The purpose of this two years master´s thesis in Archive, Library and Information Museum science is to examine the ideas about children and childhood which have an influence on the storytime at public libraries. The material on which this thesis is based, is a methodbook which is aimed to develop the storytimes and those picture books that are recommend in the methodbook. The theoretical points of departure are discourse analysis and childhood sociology. The concepts of being and becoming are frequently used when analyzing the methodbook. Other theoretical points of departure are the combination of narratologi, semiotics and hermeneutics, which are also used when analyzing the picture books.The result indicates that the storytime, recommended in the methodbook, is based on the idea of a timeless culture of childhood - where the "modern child" including the media used today - is left out. Concepts as nostalgia and pedagogy are tightly connected.

A secondary and a pioneer tree species can with advantage be included in a mixed stand to increase the use of sunlight. Nitrogen-fixing plants have been shown to increase the supply of nitrogen in the soil by, for example, litter fall. This deposition acts as a biological fertilization, which may be used by non-fixing plants. Alder is a nitrogen-fixing, pioneer tree species that loses its nitrogen-rich leaves late in the autumn. The aim of this study was to examine the effect on the total volume of production, when different proportions of nitrogen-fixing Alder were part of spruce stands.

Med rötter i 1970-talets kvinnorörelse, under parollen ?Det personliga är politiskt?, satte konstnären Mary Kelly moderskap, barnafödande och barnomsorg under lupp i samband med sitt verk Post-Partum Document, 1973-1979. För många kvinnliga konstutövare som gjorde sitt bästa för att, via konsten, frigöra sig från sociala roller och nedärvda beteendemönster, möttes hennes initiativ att ge en bild av denna för dem bromsande moderlighet, med förvåning.Mary Kelly delade konceptkonstens politiska patos för en distanserad reflektion över den kulturella diskursen men hon bytte den lingvistiska analysen mot psykoanalysen. Hennes råmaterial var den subjektiva erfarenheten: kroppen, dess rädslor och sexuella drivkrafter samt de institutionella och kulturella konventioner som tillfogades den. Hennes analysmetoder och omfattande teori banade väg för en mer akademisk, socialkonstruktivistisk feminism som gav ringar på vattnet efter att Post-Partum Document premiärvisades i London år 1976.

The purpose of this study is to analyze how the parties (USA, Great Britain, UN and the European Union) legitimize their intervention in Bosnia-Herzegovina as seen from without the conceptions of sovereignty and intervention. USA and the UN have legitimized their intervention on security reasons. The American president, George W. Bush, claimed that democracies never engage in war with each other and that democracies were prosperous just because they were democracies. According to the president, that is why it is important to democratise the whole Balkan region to protect the international community from terrorism which grows in unstable and undemocratic states.

Purpose of this essay is to conduct a style analysis of Swedish silent film posters with visual storytelling and cultural memory as a theoretical basis. Concepts such as design, color and technique are studied to highlight the historical context of Swedish silent film posters..

This thesis is largely about museums and their role and development in and for society. With a field/case study of the District Six Museum in Cape Town, we try to encapsulate a modern function for museums within a context of 1) the current worldwide discussion on museums and their future, and 2) the development of a new democratic nation in South Africa, and museums possible role in that process. Through analysis of interviews made with concerned people within and outside the District Six museum weintend to get a picture of the views on this particular museum and its role and function, for its community and society at large, plus for other museums, as a possible role model. We find that this museum might be close to a type of museum that has been asked for by museologists and others in recent times..

The aim of this master?s thesis is to investigate a possible connection between the development of mobile library services in Sweden and the development of cultural policy during 1945-2006. Our main question is: is there a connection between the development of the mobile library services in Sweden, as described in Biblioteksbladet, and the development of cultural policy as portrayed by Anders Frenander and Dorte Skot-Hansen? In order to answer this question, we formulated two secondary questions: - How are the mobile library services described in Biblioteksbladet between 1945 and 2006? - Are there any similarities or dissimilarities between the development of the mobile library services and the development cultural policy as described in our theoretical models? If so, in what way? Our study covers the entire time period since the start of the mobile library services in Sweden in the late 1940s. The final year for our investigation is 2006.

Health and fitness are two controversial and not easily defined topics that affect people in our modern society every day. We believe that we can find a link between individualism, globalization and the stress concerning weight and appearance ideals. Our bodies have turned into a popular subject for the media, and there is no indication that the interest will decline. As the world gets more artificial, "natural" ideals are getting more attention, such as the concept of a strong and healthy body. But there is also a downside, for example with health issues such as cardiovascular disease increasing following the birth of high-fat diets.

Vi har effektiviserat och förenklat hanteringen av hörselproppar från mellanlagret tillpacklinjerna genom att utveckla det befintliga hanteringssystemet. Lösningen vi valt attanvända oss av baseras på ett system av transportband. Transportbanden har höjts upp föratt man ska kunna gå under vilket var ett krav från företaget. För att få fram en lösninghar vi använt oss av ett ramverk enligt Bellgran och Säfsten. Det har gjort att arbetetförflutit diciplinerat och metodiskt.

The current study sought to examine if post-produced semantic memory cues are a good aid for memory recall. It also focused on remembering units with a meaning, instead of just remembering lists of words. In the current study a factual text was used where the participants were tasked with recalling as much information as possible either with the aid of cues (keywords written by the participants themselfs), computer with Internet or no aids at all. The results showed that keywords are significantly better for memory recall. The results were discussed in regards to modern models describing semantic memory.

Since early civilization, herbal tea has been used as remedies for an abundance of different diseases. Among these herbal remedies, peppermint (Mentha piperita) was used for its effect on bowel related ailments. Even though peppermint was not described until late 17th century, it has been used since 1000 years before Christ by the Egyptians. In present day it is still considered a remedy for stomach pain etcetera, and much of the recent research is concentrated on the positive effects of peppermint on pain and bowel diseases. A large section of the research is also reviewing positive effects of peppermint on cancer, allergy and also on its potential as antibacterial agent.

Den här uppsatsen uppmärksammar planerna för ombyggnaden av nya Slussen i Stockholm. Fokus i undersökningen ligger på mötesplatserna och dess deltagare enligt den vision som presenteras av Stockholms stad. Genom en kvalitativ metod granskas hur modern stadsplanering är tänkt att påverka människor som passerar och vistas vid Slussen. Analysen har ett retoriskt, semiotiskt och ideologiskt perspektiv och undersöker tre olika dokument: en publik broschyr, gällande detaljplan och gestaltningsprogram. Resultatet visar på en vision om en central plats i staden som befolkas av människor vars fritid och konsumtion är det mest väsentliga.

ABSTRACTThis thesis contains a partial edition of a previously unpublished manuscript, De lapidibus et gemmis (MH 59, Lund University Library). The manuscript was probably written in the late XVth century and consists of five parts. Part 1 (ff 1r-1v) and 2 (ff 2r-14r) are written in Latin, part 3 (ff 14v), which is probably later than the rest of manuscript (XVI century?), in German, part 4 (ff 18r-33r) in Latin (some smaller passages in Swedish), part 5 (ff 34r-34v) in Latin and Swedish. The manuscript was written by at least two hands, probably more.I have chosen to examine and edit part 2, ff 2r-14r, which I have identified as a partial transcript of the franciscan Bartholomeus Anglicus encyclopedic work De proprietatibusrerum, probably written between 1230 and 1260.

Vi har i detta examensarbete samarbetat med den nordiska koncernen COOP Norden, enheten för Hälsa och Miljö.I rapporten utreder vi Coop's möjligheter att med hjälp av modern information's- och kommunikationsteknik förverkliga sina målsättningar angående transparen's och hållbarhet. Att göra det osynliga synligt är ärendet i aktuella undersökningar som diskutera's i rapporten. När konsumenter köper varor i affären vet de sällan hur dessa genom sin livscykel påverkat(eller kommer påverka) människor, djur och miljö. Är det möjligt att ge lättillgänglig varuinformation av denna typ till konsumenterna, i möjlig förlängning av den hjälp som befintliga ekologi-, etik- och miljömärken ger?.
