De stenbundna skeppen i tra?dens skugga : En studie kring skeppsformade monument fra?n yngre bronsa?lder pa? O?land
Ship formed monuments from the Late Bronze Age on the island of O?land, southeast Sweden, have never been thoroughly dealt with in previous research, despite the fact that the region is suggested to have had a key-role in maritime trade networks. This thesis aims to address the ship formed monuments on O?land in relationship to the monuments in northern Sma?land and the island of Gotland. My goal is to discuss how the ship symbolism was practised during the Late Bronze Age in Scandinavia from a new perspective.

Barns upplevelser av högläsning och boksamtal
What drove me to write this paper is the will to examine if there is a philosophically and scientifically viable alternative foundation for an objective morality other than what we like to refer to as "God". The American philosopher and neuroscientist Sam Harris presents in his book The Moral Landscape a thesis for an objective morality based on science in which he states that science can determine human values. The purpose of this paper is to perform a theoretical trial of The Moral Landscape, examining Harris' thesis and it's relations to the philosophical obstacles that stands in its way, these being mainly the famous philosophical principle "Hume's Law" and G.E. Moore's "Naturalistic Fallacy and Open Question Argument" and thus will serve as my main theoretical foundation. The results of my study was not conclusive since Harris in fact doesn't succeed in bridging the gap between facts and values on a scientific ground.
Tre projektmodeller och två fallstudier : - ett steg mot fördjupad kunskap om landskapsarkitekters projekt och process
The formulation of visions into practical projects is an important part of the professional expertise of Landscape architects. This expertise includes the gathering, structuring, improvement and utilization of knowledge. Project models have been developed to provide tools for the implementation and governance of projects, as well as means of learning, reflection and survey of individual projects.
The aim of this thesis is to describe some general project models and their theory, and to describe practical, real-life examples of project models used within Landscape architecture. Questions asked are:
? How do the processes of idea to construction in Landscape architectural projects lool like? Do project models have a relevance for the mission of Landscape architects?
? Is a common project model used within such projects, or is the project model varying depending on e.g.
Wetland development in the context of ecotourism : a conceptual design proposal for a wetland site in Lake Victoria, Kenya
The travelling sector is expanding worldwide, which puts all destinations under pressure to have a functioning
social system and good resources to manage the problems and take advantage of the opportunities that the
tourism sector can offer a community. The area around Kisumu in Kenya, like much of Africa, tourism can
simultaneously ensure a stable financial future while it removes, as a result of a growing population, more and
more of the scenery that many tourists want to experience. Responsible travel to natural areas that promotes
conservation of the environment and improves the welfare of local people is what defines ecotourism. A
concept that implies a closed cycle, where visitor?s needs are met in balance with what can be given back,
without risking creating imbalances in society.
Along the coast of Lake Victoria, valuable papyrus wetlands provide Kisumu vital ecosystem services
such as water purification, climate adaptation while it also serves as a reservoir for biodiversity.
Nya landskapselement i Infra City :
My work deals with large scale design of the urban fringe. The thesis is divided in three parts; ?Current viewpoints?, ?Infra City ? conditions ? and ?Infra City ? project?.
In the first part, I go through the history of trade shortly. Then I discuss the concept of nature, which ends up in a linkage between natural science and aesthetics in Landscape architecture. The link between those two makes a project stronger and more multifunctional.
The object of my case, Infra City, is a mall situated north of Stockholm on both sides of the E4 motorway going to Arlanda airport.
Skånes landskap - ett industriminne? : en betraktelse med utgångspunkt i Findus ärtodling
This paper argues that the food industry in general and the one taking place in Scania in particular, are disregarded in the official management of industrial preservation carried out in Sweden today. Despite the articulated ambition of a cultural heritage that as many as possible could identify with, the practice tend to create an industrial heritage based on stereotype ideas about the landscape in Sweden and the characteristics of industry. The way the open land of Scania differs from the traditional image of the appearance of Sweden, is used as one possible way to explain why the food industries of Scania are overseen in the management of industrial heritage. It is also argued that the high number of female employees might bee a reason why the food industries in general are given low priority in the practice of cultural heritage. By putting the Findus pea industry and the cultivated landscape that provides the factory with primary products against the official criteria for industrial memories, it is examined what values for preservation the food industry contain..
Jaktens betydelse för Södermanlands landskap : Hur viltvård kan påverka variationen av lövträd och buskar
The fragmentation and reduction of deciduous forests in Sweden is threatening many species. Particularity worrying is the loss of broad-leaf trees, since a diversity of species is often associated to them. Today many deciduous trees are situated along the border between forested and open areas, and these small fragments can be important for biodiversity. The aim of this study is to analyze if wildlife management can affect the variation of deciduous trees and bushes in the landscape. In brochures and literature Svenska Jägareförbundet (the Swedish Association for Hunting and Wildlife Management) recommend hunters and landowners to promote deciduous trees ? often broad-leaf trees ? as wildlife management measures, while the Swedish forestry laws can be sensed as unclear regarding the treatment of these trees.Five properties in Södermanland, Sweden, were chosen as study areas and inventoried in respect of trees and bushes in September 2013.
Urban Vindkraft : ett nytt element i bebyggd miljö?
This paper aims to explore the phenomenon urban wind energy, its visual effect on built environment and the factors that affect the opinion towards new elements in the city. A place study of the city Gävle serves as a complement to the theoretical part of the paper. The theoretical discussion opens with an account for the technical and economical conditions of urban wind energy. It presents the technical basics, different types of turbines and a discussion occurring wind related techniques in built environment. Today, the knowledge of how the wind moves and acts in the rural landscape is quite good.
Ljudinstallationer i Sveriges utemiljö
When visiting Scaniaparken in Malmö you have the possibility of listening to music streaming out of grass-covered hills. In Helsingborg children can compose their own music and play for their friends on the playground. On a square in Nacka Strand you can hear birds singing in the quiet intervals of traf?c. What the places have in common are that they all contain sound installations.
Markanvädnings och markvård på småskaliga farmer i Bungomadistriktet, Western Province, Kenya
In Northen Bungoma, Western province ? Kenya, the Vi-Agroforestry Project (VI-AFP) has introduced a new project that covers 7000 households. To succeed with the project, a water resources protection project, agroforestry methods will be implemented to secure the water quality of the area. In this thesis a foundation is laid for future follow-up studies of land cover and land use of this area. To carry out this study an existing method from a cooperation between VIAFP and Dalarnas University (HDa) has been implemented.
Brickbandets utemiljöer : vårdplan 2006
In the centre of Bromma, east of Brommaplan is the part of Bromma named Riksby. Riksby was built in the early 1940:s as a part of the westward expansion of Stockholm. Other places that were built at the same time was for ex. Stora Mossen and Abrahamsberg. This work is about the outdoor environment of the housing co-operative of Brickbandet.
LEKKROKAR- ?Något att hänga upp leken på?
The research of today shows that natural environments are importantfor children's physical and mental development. It alsoshows that children often opt out of the traditional equipmentplaygrounds have to offer. By breaking the boundary betweenthe playground and park, is it possible to create a new spacethat will encourage rather than demand play? Through gatheringinformation and talking to Landscape architects, designers, and children, I realized that today's parks already have environmentsand objects that could be used for playing. But whatthey need is something that makes the environment even moreinviting for children to play.
Upplevelser av fysisk aktivitet i ett slättlandskap :
Title: Experiences of physical activity in a flat country
Regular physical activity provides many chronic diseases and is an important contributor to health promotion. According to Swedish goals for public health, community planning ought to provide opportunities for exercise in all groups of the population and exercise in daily life should be uncomplicated, even in rural areas. The purpose of this study was to explore how individuals living in a flat country experienced their opportunities for exercise on a regular basis. Four semi-structured interviews were carried out with a phenomenological approach and for the analysis a phenomenological-hermeneutic method was used, resulting in two main themes and nine sub themes. The first main theme ?The reciprocal relation between physical activity and the landscape? showed that the informants experienced that they had good opportunities in the landscape for physical activity, it was easy to exercise on a regular basis, provided there was motivation.
The allotment plot : osäkrande som designstrategi
During the spring semester of 2009 I have participated in what was to become the project The Allotment Plot; a collaboration between the Swedish University of Agriculture and the Wanås Foundation. As one of six students in Landscape architecture I have experienced a group
based learning process with the point of departure in the designing of an organic and experimental kitchen garden at Wanås, a sculpture park for contemporary art.
The project came out as neither us nor any other of the people engaged could have guessed. What was meant to be a garden turned out to become an entire cultivation movement.
As students, we have gained a lot of experience through praxis; experience that will be valuable for our future profession. The project has also opened up the possibility to question and reflect upon what our profession and education could or should be about.
This thesis focuses on the role of communication and the production of communicative tools in design processes and Landscape architectural practice. It discusses how communication may be used in an exploratory and ?un-securing? way, and how this may dislocate the professional role, especially in situations where the design action, as in the case of this study, demands a high degree of transdisciplinarity and collaboration.
