Many jobs in rural areas have historically been linked to the agricultural sector. The restructuring that has been implemented in agriculture has resulted in a significant reduction in the number of jobs in rural areas. A consequence of this is that many people have moved to cities to earn a living. To maintain a living countryside in Sweden, it is therefore essential to create alternative livehoods in rural areas. An industry that can have a major impact in the future is rural tourism.

Det blir allt vanligare att svenska lantbrukare kompletterar sin traditionella sysselsättning med ytterligare verksamheter. Många väljer att satsa på turism, och det märks en ökad efterfrågan på just Landsbygdsturism, vilket enligt Lantbrukarnas Riksförbund är det den snabbast växande turismgrenen i Sverige. Jag har i denna uppsats valt att undersöka hur ett specifikt lantbruksföretag, närmare bestämt Västgård i byn Kall i Jämtland, kan utveckla sin satsning på turism som sidoverksamhet. Med hjälp av teorier inom området har jag undersökt hur gården kan förbättra sitt erbjudande till turister genom att identifiera och utveckla de värden som finns, samt att bli mer medvetna om vilka kunderna är och vad de vill ha.Teorierna jag tagit del av betonar vikten av att skapa ett helhetserbjudande för att öka värdet på upplevelsen i kundens ögon. En mängd faktorer såsom bland annat miljö, personal och andra turister väger in i en turists bedömning av upplevelsen, och alla dessa delar är viktiga för att bilda ett gott helhetsintryck.

Frölunda-Aspvik Säteri, a company just outside Stockholm within the agriculture and forestry sector, has developed a business idea around countryside tourism as a complement to their existing business. The idea is to offer a high quality and functional way of living in small cottages surrounded by beautiful nature and landscape of cultural importance. There will also be a range of additional activities available such as hunting, canoeing, cycling etc. The project should be done with minimum impact on the surrounding environment and the importance of the ecological system should be at the forefront of all business decisions. At present the company wants to have a better understanding of what the future trends are within tourism, how its business idea fits in with future trends within tourism and how to stay competitive.The purpose of this research paper is to identify the social driving forces that have an impact on people?s lifestyle and choice of holiday destination in the future, and present how these factors affect the travel industry.
