Metodik för identifiering av T-stycke med risk för termisk utmattning
Thermal fatigue is a serious problem in todays power plants. A large amount of damages around the world circles around that subject. The damage can come from the mechanism of two flows mixing with different temperatures in a T-Junction. It is a fundamental prerequisite that these T-Junctions are frequently tested for damages. An amount of criterias steers the rate of testings.
Små ingrepp med stora steg mot förändring : ett utvecklingsförslag i Durban, Sydafrika
Durban, South Africa?s third-largest city is a socially segregated post apartheid society, struggling with high unemployment and AIDS. The city becomes even more complex with a changing climate, creating an influx of people to the city, putting scarce resources under further stress. Warwick Junction, an important transport hub in the centre of Durban, holds a large site of informal trading alongside the formal markets. This informal sector generates large financial flows and provides for a rapidly growing population.
The aim of this thesis is to develop an approach that is realistic and relevant to planning and design of an urban context in South Africa.
Man och kvinna till salu : En studie av manliga kontra kvinnliga modemagasins framställning av genus och konsumtion
Due to the developments in today's gender discussions, this essay aimed at investigating the gendered constructions and encouragements to consumption. As a former fashion student I have a special interest in the commercial constructions featured in fashion magazines, especially since advertising, fashion and perceptions of gender have long walked hand in hand. Just as feminism studies have shown femininity being a fluid identity, recent studies of masculinities, media and culture are also showing changes in the depictions of men.The aim was to clarify how fashion magazines encourage men and women to consume products and ideals, and also discuss the gender constructions occurring in the Junction of editorial and commercial text (articles and advertisements). The analysis was thereof based on three main questions:- How is consumption encouraged in male and female fashion magazines?- What kind of gendered pattern appears in the Junction of advertisement and editorial text?- With regard to the gender constructions, what is the reader encouraged to consume? The theoretical framework of the analysis was based on gender studies and political economy, mostly describing a commercial perception of feminine journalism and a new metrosexual expression in men?s fashion and lifestyle magazines.By using a combination of quantitative (content analysis) and qualitative (semiotics) approach two fashion magazines, Elle and King Magazine (published in May 2013) were used as representatives of fashion magazines in general. The results showed clear differences between the sexes.
Läsarens interaktion med texten : en studie av hur läsarens uppfattning av texten påverkar meningsskapandet i absurdistisk dramatik
This essay examines how the meaning of an absurd play may be affected by how the reader understands the text. To address this problem I have turned to Wolfgang Isers theory of reception. Primarily I have taken on that the creation of meaning comes about when the reader fills in blanks in the text. I have also used Martin Esslins work on the theater of the absurd. I have mainly studied his research on Harold Pinter.
Tyck om Hedemora! : en sociotopundersökning för Hedemora stad
Hedemora is the oldest town in Dalarna; traditionally acting as an important Junction for trade. Nowadays, the town is suffering from a declining population and a poor economy. Therefore, it is important to explore how to best spend the money needed for Hedemora to become an attractive city once again.
"Sociotops" are public spaces that have been evaluated by their users and by city planners, both working together.
The result in the sociotop investigation will be used as a basis for city planning and as a foundation for discussing how to make the town a nicer environment.
The sociotop investigation attempts to answer the questions: What places are popular and why? And What places are disliked? I approached the questions by using questionnaires, by arranging public walks in the city and by holding group interviews with children, along with my own observations.
The information I have gathered is most detailed for children and youth between the ages of seven and twenty years old.
Passivhus, detaljutformning och dess köldbryggor
Along with rising energy prices and increasing awareness of environmental issues, the criteria for buildings energy performance have been sharpened through the years. Today, ?passive house? and ?low energy house? are commonly used phrases in the construction industry and is expected to become increasingly common in the future. For houses with well-insulated building envelope the importance of well constructed details increases when minimizing the heat losses. Examples of these details are floor-wall Junction and window openings in the wall. In such connections thermal bridges occur, which means that heat more easily is transported out of the building, compared to the rest of the building envelope. This report deals with detail solutions around windows and a comparison between a traditional slab and a foundation from Koljern consisting of foam glass.
Danmarksplass : förslag till ett stadsrum
Danmarksplass is situated just outside the centre of the city of Bergen on the Norwegian west coast. It was built in the 1930´s as a result of an architecture competition won by the prominent Norwegian architect Ole Landmark. Danmarksplass was originally meant to function as a local square, but its location next to Fjösangerveien, a road that caters for most of the through traffic in the Bergen valley today and is part of one of the main European roads, E39, would prove it difficult for that idea to prevail. Along with the ever increasing car traffic, Danmarksplass has more and more become a very busy traffic Junction. Nowadays the car is the sole ruler of Danmarksplass.
På väg. En undersökning av en svensk stadsmotorväg
The purpose of this essay is to examine one of Sweden's oldest motorways in cityenvironment. The researched section is motorway E20 east of Gothenburg. Olskroksmotetin the west and Jonsered Junction in the east, a distance of about 11 km. The mainquestion was, can maintenance of areas and objects related to the motorway give greatermeaning to a system that currently lacks historical connection? The survey was partly an archival study and partly a physical examination of themotorway and its appearance today. The road through Säveedalen from Gothenburg has a long history that begins with theriver and its valley as transport routes.
?Att man tagit dom på allvar är nog det viktigaste av allt?. Folkbibliotekariers uppfattningar kring bemötande utifrån ett allmänetiskt och yrkesetiskt perspektiv
The aim of this master thesis is to study the relationship between general ethics and professional ethics, to attain an understanding of which values that are given priority in the profession of the librarian regarding personal encounter towards library users. The posed questions are: How can fundamental ethical principles be understood through the view of public librarians? How can policy documents regarding librarian ethics be understood through the view of public librarians? How can policy documents regarding librarian ethics be problematized in relation to fundamental ethical principles? We used four focus groups consisting of public librarians. Three theoretical frameworks create the base of the analysis; four fundamental ethical principles, ethical guidelines for Swedish librarians and recommendations for Swedish librarians in the reference service. Three main issues emerge in the study; equalistic personal encounter where the principle of justice is emphasized but also problematized, library users? integrity which mainly coincide with the principle of autonomy and finally the librarian?s professional role which are being defined by librarian specific competence to refrain violation of the principle of injury avoidance.
Application of Design for Safer Urban Roads and Junctions: Selected Countermeasures
Road design with focus to safety has been extensively developed in last decades in Nordic and some other EU countries with the main aim to achieve a decrease in a number of accidents and fatalities on the roads. These countries gained many valuable experiences, but they had to sacrifice great effort, expenses, and time to reach the present art-of-state. The purpose of the Master?s Thesis is to review some design approaches with focus to safety and discuss the general way that they may be applied. The Master?s Thesis studies safety in three levels: (i) general - design standards, national safety policies and road hierarchy; (ii) local authority and road administrator; and (iii) three specific safety countermeasures - Junctions, pedestrian crossings and traffic calming.
Rhododendron ur undersläktet Vireya - något om dess karakteristika och användning i nordiska vinterträdgårdar :
Present essay aims to introduce the reader to central topics regarding Rhododendrons of subgenus Vireya. As a result of a donation, the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, received a collection of Vireya from a local amateur grower, Kurt Myllenberg. Since the subgenus Vireya is uncommon in Scandinavian horticulture, the study tries to establish conditions for successful growing.
The subgenus Vireya differ from the other Rhododendron species through mainly three characteristics: the presence of two tails, attached to each end of the seed; the ovary-style Junction is tapering and the pedicels arises directly from a dome-like base and form an umbel and not a raceme. The subgenus is distributed mostly in the islands of Indonesia and New Guinea, but also from Malaysia to Nepal and in Australia.
Since Vireya species mainly grows as epiphytes in the tree canopies, they need high drainage and not too much water.
Agroprotein som fodermedel till slaktkyckling
Destillers dried grains with soluble (DDGS) is a by-product when producing ethanol. DDGS from wheat has a high crude protein content and a good amino acid profile, which makes it an interesting feed ingredient for poultry. The disadvantage of feeding DDGS from wheat to poultry is that it also contains a high fiber content that chickens don?t have the ability to break down. Lantmännen Agroetanol has developed a new protein feedstuff from DDGS by extracting wheat protein from DDGS, the product name is Agroprotein SD.
Friluftsliv i staden : tillfällig landskapsarkitektur på sex platser i Linköping 3-15 april 2012
The subject of this project focuses on how
Landscape Architects by their profession can
explore and directly make a difference in the
cityscape. This paper documents the process of art -
based research practice. The purpose of installing
temporary activities is to encourage people in the
city to discover, participate and invite people to be
more playful in the city.
My experience of interaction in public spaces comes
primarily from the education within landscape
architecture, from site-specific art installations I have
performed in different cities and from observations
of landscape architecture, street art and urban life in
the cities of Vienna, Berlin and Linköping. It is
fascinating and inspiring to see how the urban space
can invite and allow visitors to participate and
therefore feel invited to the open space. As a
landscape architect I wish to create urban spaces
that are useful and inspiring for their visitors.
The projects main question: How can you make
temporary landscapes that encourage outdoorinspired
activities at selected locations in the city? is
answered by practice based research, an approach
in which theoretical research are developed through
practical experiments in the designing- and
implementation process.
