The purpose of this thesis is to examine how the public libraries work towards SFI (Swedish For Immigrants) based on the views of the overseeing librarians. To study this we have asked the following research questions:What distinguishes the public libraries? work towards SFI according to the responsible librarians? What distinguishes the communication between SFI teachers and the librarians according to the responsible librarians? What opinions are held by the librarians in regards to their work with SFI?We have used a semi structured interview method with seven librarians in charge of the activities with SFI at small and medium sized public libraries in a rural area of Sweden. The theoretical framework is composed of Marianne Andersson and Dorte Skot-Hansen?s model for analysis of the local public library profile and the authors? definition of collaboration.

In this thesis I try to find ways to be more independent and conscious in my interpretation of the music which I am playing. To be able to be more sure of myself and my own decisions I try to find methods on how to achieve this. The methods includes reading articles about interpretation, interviewing musicians and interpret and perform music. The pieces I have chosen are a solosuite by Max Reger, a concerto by Georg Philipp Telemann and a clarinet sonata by Johannes Brahms. I made some concerts where I try to achieve my goals.

Social exclusion is a problem in today?s society that we feel public libraries can help resolve since they are based on the idea of equality and openness. The purpose of this essay is to examine how public librarians think and reason about the concept ?integration? as well as what role public libraries can play in immigrants? integration process. With Jose Alberto Diaz? theory on the integration process, and Marianne Andersson and Dorte Skot-Hansen?s model for analysis of the local library profile as theoretical framework, we analyzed the responses from two qualitative interviews in small groups of 2-3 librarians from two different public libraries.

The purpose of this thesis was to figure out the feelings that librarians felt towards the e-books at the library. And if it affects their work at the library, especially from a financial point of view. The reason I decided to do this study is because the subject of e-books has become bigger in the last couple of years, and that I got the feeling that the librarians didn?t like them that much. So I did six interviews with six different librarians from different libraries to see if they felt the same thing or if they are in fact positive towards them.The results I received from my study were that the librarians are positive to the e-book.

In this Master we have studied classification system and alternative arrangements of books in a public library. The public libraries in Sweden use the SAB classification system. This system was created nearly a hundred years ago in order to suit the librarians and the Swedish society at the time. Today many library users find the system difficult to understand. This and other factors have inspired a number of libraries to arrange books in an alternative and more user-friendly way.

In 1972 a national higher education for librarians was started. Up until then different categories of librarians got their education separately. The aim of this Master's thesis is to explore the attitude towards this new education for librarians. The study will concentrate on the attitude of the representatives from the research libraries. Researchlibraries had, until 1972, recruted their librarians amongst Ph.D-level scholars.

The aim with the study is to get an understanding of why pupils read literature in upper secondary school from four Swedish teachers´ thoughts and attitudes towards fiction in upper secondary school. Some of the theoretical starting points that lay as a foundation to the study are Lpf 94, the curriculum for Swedish and different literature oriented researchers as Lars-Göran Malmgren´s subject construction, Louise M. Rosenblatt´s transaction theory, Jan Nilsson´s view on fiction as a source of pleasure and a source of knowledge and Gunilla Molloy´s dialectal questions. To reach the aim in question qualitative interviews with four Swedish teachers in upper secondary school were carried through. The result shows that the teachers see the literature?s part in school as meaningful and claims that it deserves to have an even higher value in all subjects, not only in the subject Swedish.

This thesis investigates collaboration between teachers and librarians concerning reading support activities in senior high schools in Sweden. The following questions were posed: 1. How do the teachers and school librarians cooperate when it comes to promoting reading? 2. To what degree of cooperation is that? And how is the level of cooperation perceived? 3.

The aim of this Masters thesis is to examine the role of librarian in order to illustrate how the librarians work, how their competence and education have changed and developed during the last decade, and ultimately to see what the role of librarian looks like in the 21^st century. After describing the librarians work, competence and education in the 21^st century, we discuss whether or not the changes that have arisen during the last decennium have affected the possibilities for librarianship to develop into an accepted profession. The method of investigation is a qualitative analysis of printed sources. As a basis of the discussion and analysis Andrew Abbotts theory of professions is used. We also use Per Tengblads analysis model, which includes six important steps in analysing the professionalism of an occupation.

The purpose of this bachelor's thesis is to investigate how working librariansmanage controversial media. It builds on three debates in the media about libraries and booksthat have taken place during the years of 2012 and 2013. The questiones asked were: How dolibrarians manage racist media? How do librarians manage media that instructs on how tocommit crimes? How do librarians manage sexually explicit media? And lastly, how dolibrarians manage pressure from outside of the library? The aim of this Masters thesis is to examine librarians opinions about media. Four questions are asked: What kind of different attitudes to new media has librarians had? How is new media discussed in relationship to each other in the debate? What mechanisms and underlying causes control the discourse for new media in public libraries? Does the discourse change over time, in that case, how? The theoretical background is theory about moral- and media panic and popular adult education. The media panic theory includes the idea that the same reaction occurs every time a new media is introduced. The theory about popular adult education is that the public need to be cultivated.

Uppsatsens syfte är att studera framställningar av manliga bibliotekarier i science fiction-litteratur, analysera vad dessa framställningar förmedlar för föreställningar om bibliotek och biblioteksverksamhet, samt att analysera de manliga bibliotekariernas koppling till maskuliniteter. Titlarna som analyseras är fyra romaner; Audrey Niffeneggers Tidsresenärens hustru, Dmitrij Gluchovskijs Metro 2033, Jules Vernes Paris i tjugonde seklet, och Jasper Ffordes Uppslukad ? En fängslande historia om Torsdag Nesta, samt en podcast; Welcome to Night Vale och en tv-serie; Buffy ? the vampire slayer. Resultatet av analysen är att ett flertal av de valda titlarna ger enövervägande negativ bild av biblioteket som en exkluderande samhällsinstitution samt är vidarerelaterat till de sätt på vilka bibliotekarierna i de olika titlarna konstrueras som maskulina. Tre olika kategorier framkom särskilt tydligt under analysen; bibliotekarien som monster/mutant, bibliotekarien som sexuellt avvikande, och bibliotekarien som lärdomsgigant och väktare av kunskapen.

The way we socialize today is radically different from how it was only twenty years ago. The main purpose of this master thesis is to explore a selection of Swedish librarians view of professional ethics. The latest master thesis written on the subject was published in 1997, which concluded that the Swedish public librarians had a poor awareness concerning professional ethics. We wanted to investigate if something had changed. We interviewed six librarians from five public libraries, asking them questions concerning ethical guidelines, responsibility, censorship and selection, pressure from lobbyists, and ethical problems relating to Internet. The answers we got gave the impression of a divided profession, and the librarian?s awareness of professional ethics can hardly be said to have been improved since 1997.
