This study is performed as an Archive, Library and museum master?s thesis in two years studies. The overall aim is to investigate and analyze what the term Manga means in a library and information science context. The concept of Manga has different meanings depending on whether we start from a Japanese or a Swedish context. Manga is integrated in the Japanese society while Manga often is associated with youth culture or a separate genre in Sweden.

Denna uppsats undersöker vilka litterära gotiska motiv och begrepp som rockbandet The Cure använder sig av i sin visuella estetik, närmare bestämt i tre av deras musikvideor: "Charlotte Sometimes (1981), "The Lovecats" (1983) och "Lullaby" (1989). Analysen och undersökningen utgår från teorier kring semiotisk bildanalys samt ett intermedialt perspektiv där det tidigare skrivna ordet transformeras till visuella bilder. Andra teoretiska inriktningar som används i denna text är bland annat genusteorier kring receptionen av bilder samt ett psykoanalytiskt perspektiv där främst det undermedvetnas funktion inom den litterära texten granskas. Undersökningen kring och om gotiken utgår ifrån Mattias Fyhr definition av den litterära gotikens kännetecken. Undersökningen visar att The Cure använder sig av typiska gotiska motiv och könsstereotyper i sin visuella estetik men anpassar samt omvandlar gotikens uttryckssätt till att fungera i en postmodern kontext.

This thesis revolves around an obvious fact: printed (or otherwise two- or three-dimensional) poetry is always and inevitably visual. By analysing a representative selection of poems, including conspicuously experimental and image-like poems as well as examples of more conventional poetry, the thesis points out that visual iconicity is an equally inevitable consequence of the visuality of printed poetry. The analysis applies terminology relating to iconicity and intermediality (presented by Lars Elleström, whose theoretical basis is the semiotics of Charles Sanders Peirce) to the selected poems, while avoiding making too specific interpretations, in order to maintain a discussion of the ever-present phenomenon of visual iconicity as such, and not just the individual examples.Rather than introducing visual iconicity specifically to confirm more or less specific interpretations of poetic texts, this method of approaching poems as two-dimensional works of art is what this paper mainly aims to propose, as a productive starting point for literary analyses in general; as is concluded in the theoretical framework by Elleström, the actual modal and iconic properties of printed poetry contradict mutually exclusive dichotomies such as verbal/visual and text/image. While indirectly visually iconic poems tend to have a wider range of possible interpretations at the outset, the existence of iconic potential, however, does not depend on any specific interpretation..

The aim of this essay is to investigate the function and development of non-player characters (NPC) in the TV/computer game Dragon Age: Origins. The NPCs are analysed in order to see if their development is affected by the player character?s (PC) background and interactions. The game?s ethics is also investigated by studying how the NPCs treat the PC and what significance they give to his background and actions.The results show that the NPCs are affected by the PC?s interactions, and furthermore, that they are round characters, which is unusual in TV/computer games.

The award-winning Norwegian novelist Karl Ove Knausgård achieved great success with his latest book, Min kamp. Both commercially and critically, the novel was praised for its seemingly successful attempt to transcend the boundary between fiction and real life. Focusing on the auto-fictional narrator?s struggle to balance his daily life with his ever so demanding aesthetic ambitions, the novel gives high-detail descriptions of the most basic day-to-day chores, intimately mixed with philosophical reflections on topics such as painting, literature and postmodern civilisation.This essay proposes an alternative perspective on the realism of the novel. Instead of relying on a correspondence theoretical view, which highlights the level of correspondence of a particular representation with reality, I seek, inspired by Martin Heidegger?s thoughts on works of art, to trace a poetics which sees the verity in a work of art as the ?unconcealment? of the world, or the coming-to-being of objects.

The aim of this paper is to elucidate and analyze history teacher's didactic choices in the conflict between unequal educational materials and the requirements of equality in the curriculum of Swedish secondary school. The empirical data consists of interviews with five secondary school history teachers, observations of their lessons as well as analysis of their tests. The starting point was to investigate teachers' didactic work in the role as a bridge between the non-equal historiography presented in textbooks in history and the curriculum?s demands for equality. Three different approaches have been observed in the teachers' didactic work when considering gender perspective into their teaching: that women become extensions in a male-dominated historiography; that another part of the story is presented when a gender perspective is considered; and that the gender perspective is included in history teaching and becomes an integral part of all the content of the subject.Several of the teachers acknowledged that gender equality is less prioritized than the courses core content and related assessment criteria.

Erik Beckmans roman Inlandsbanan (1967) har, tillsammans med hans hela författarskap, både kritiserats och hyllats som obegriplig, med en berättarstruktur som aktivt bryter mot ett konventionellt, episkt berättande och anammar en försvårande, gestaltande skriv- och läsakt. Derrida diskuterar i Of Grammatology (1967) funktionen hos den skrivna texten som betecknande det betecknande, det vill säga betecknande det talade språket som betecknar den refererade betydelsen, och hur relationerna dessa sinsemellan förskjutits. Föreliggande uppsats analyserar Erik Lindegrens ekfraser till tre av Halmstadgruppens målningar urett intermedialt perspektiv. Målningarna är Hamn av Axel Olson från 1939, Kosmisk moder avWaldemar Lorentzon från 1935, samt Det är fullbordat av Erik Olson från 1943. I verketHalmstadgruppen (1947) skrev Erik Lindegren ekfraser till dessa och ytterligare 35 målningar.Ekfrasen gavs i samtliga fall samma titel som målningen.Min analys har sitt huvudsakliga mål i att undersöka hur ekfraserna samspelar med ochlevandegör målningarna i textmediet. Analysen bygger metodologiskt på en närläsning av dikterna,med fokus på hur olika bildmediala komponenter manifesteras i texten. I detta ingår bland annat attidentifiera artefakter från bilden, undersöka strukturella och formmässiga anpassningar, analyseraspatiala och temporala förhållanden, gemensamma begreppskomplex och sinnesstämningar.Ur teoretisk synpunkt utgör begreppen ekfras och enargeia en grund, tillsammans medWerner Wolfs terminologi i The Musicalization of Fiction.Undersökningen visar att de analyserade ekfraserna använder sig mycket olika sätt attlevandegöra det bildmediala materialet.

Syftet med denna uppsats är att om möjligt bidra till en större kunskap och ett större intresse för det som kan utgöra en av grundbultarna i uttrycket ?livslångt lärande?, nämligen studier i vuxen ålder vid Komvux. Vidare är syftet att försöka framhäva betydelsen av att hela livet få möjlighet att både som person och som vetande människa växa och genom att få chansen till detta också vara en del av ett ständigt förändrande kunskaps- och informationssamhälle. Litteraturmässigt behandlas detta utifrån vad tidigare forskning lyft fram som karaktäristiskt för vuxenstuderande. Det tidigare forskning framhäver, ställs i undersökningen mot det som framkommit i denna studie.

The following essay is a study of the theatre-play Min Arm, a translation and performance by Per Lasson for Fria Teatern in Stockholm 2009-2010. Actor, director and playwright Tim Crouch wrote the original script My Arm in English in 2003.With basis in intermedial theory, as defined by Jörgen Bruhn, as well as Hans-Thies Lehmann?s theory on post-dramatic theatre this study investigates the meaning-building processes in Min Arm as a theatrical performance. Concepts of the difference between stage play and performance text are borrowed from and inspired mainly by Eli Rozik?s Generating Theatre Meaning.

Den 23 Mars 1980 röstade svenska folket om kärnkraften. Den politiska debatt som fördes innan valet var på många sätt både komplicerad och motsägelsefull. Komplicerad därför att perspektiven på kärnkraften var så många och för att frågan splittrade traditionella politiska och ideologiska gränser. Motsägelsefull, för trots den uttalade ambitionen om en saklig debatt tycktes det omöjligt att få till stånd och trots många av frågornas vetenskapliga grund och debattörernas vurm för faktamässighet tycktes de viktigaste orsakerna till debattörernas ställningstagande vara outtalade och av ideologisk art. Denna uppsats försöker dels åskådliggöra debatten, dels finna orsakerna till dess komplexa och motsägelsefulla natur.

What is the relation of image and word, of sentences and pictures? What kind of message does this combination produce when juxtaposed on a single material plane? And how do we read its ?infinite? relation? These are the questions at the center of this inquiry. My main interest concerns the exact nature of the relation between photographic images and textual elements of poetic language when these are juxtaposed in what I call Phototext poetry.The thesis calls into question the conventional reading habits of the conjunction of photographs and texts, and seeks to understand the more complex connections intrinsic to the relation image/word and its material and perceptual play in poetic works. Does a text always ?anchor? the multiple meanings of an image, as Roland Barthes argues? What if the alterations of an image could ?anchor? certain fractions of a poetic, polysemantic textual construct? Is a photograph indifferent to the visual, material permutations of texts that certain contemporary poetic practices produce?I discuss phototextual works and collaborations of various kinds, from Molin fontän [?Molin?s fountain?] (1866) over classic surrealist poetry to language-oriented writing.
