Visualization of Particle In Cell Simulations
A numerical simulation case involving space plasma and the evolution of instabilities that generates very fast electrons, i.e. approximately at half of the speed of light, is used as a test bed for scientific visualisation techniques. A visualisation system was developed to provide interactive real-time animation and visualisation of the simulation results. The work focuses on two themes and the integration of them. The first theme is the storage and management of the large data sets produced.
Rekursiv greyboxidentifiering av drivsystem i industrirobot.
In modern industrial robots the components in the transmission contain nonlinearities. These nonlinearities need to be to estimated either for better control or to use the parameters for diagnosis of the system. There is a lot of work done within system identification and mainly within the field of iterative parameter estimation.This thesis considers recursive grey-box identification for a nonlinear model of the transmission in an industrial robot. The nonlinearities that are identified are friction, spring stiffnes, hysteresis and backlash. These nonlinearities are a part of the models that are presented in this thesis.

Parallel to new technological advancements, including the development of interactive recommender systems, digital music services on the Internet, such as Spotify, have in a short time span gradually replaced former physical media such as CDs and MP3-players and become pioneers on a market with an otherwise uncertain future. By subscribing to the service, users have access to a vast library of music and from any device with Internet access. In order to provide a satisfactory and useful musical experience, different ways of coping with the vastness is required - which is precisely what recommender systems are for. Improved filtering techniques and use of devices built in sensors, make way for new opportunities of more precise and contextually tailored suggestions for track selection, which in turn leads to potential privacy issues when using interactive music services. But where do we stand today? By compiling, exemplifying and discussing three different perspectives with relating to the development of interactive music recommender systems, the objective for this paper is to provide a for science, industry and user, objectively nuanced account of current potentials and expectations.
Observatörer för skattning av verktygspositionen hos en industrirobot : Design, simulering och experimentell verifiering
This thesis approaches the problem of estimating the arm angles of an industrial robot with flexibilities in joints and links. Due to cost-cutting efforts in the industrial robots industry, weaker components and more cost-effective structures have been introduced which in turn has led to problems with flexibilities, nonlinearities and friction. In order to handle these challenging dynamic problems and achieve high accuracy this study introduces state observers to estimate the tool position.The observers use measurements of the motor angles and an accelerometer and the different evaluated observers are based on an Extended Kalman Filter and a deterministic variant. They have been evaluated in experiments on an industrial robot with two degrees of freedom. The experimental verification shows that the state estimates can be highly accurate for medium frequency motions, ranging from 3-30Hz.

With the help of different methods we discovered areas where it could be of use, such as; presentation of a database, development and documentation of a database. The primary goal of the prototype was to make viewing of database structures easier, even people without prior database knowledge should be able to understand the structure. The report focuses on calculating machine cost per hour since the manufacturing costs are the major part of the total product cost.Managers on the company believe that the costs they use in calculations todayneither is up-to-date nor advantageous in a market aspect and due to that their calculations need to be revised. The machines cost per hour is a major part in the manufacturing calculation. The company wants to provide a competitive price that also covers their costs.
Robotsälen Paro i demensvården
Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka hur en social robot kan användas inom svensk demensvård och vilka effekter den har på patienterna. Roboten som används är Paro, en japansk sälrobot som har tagits fram för att kunna ge samma effekter som levande djur i djurterapi. Kontakt med djur medför ofta aktivitet och vardagsglädje vilket även är viktiga begrepp i vård av människor med demens.Studien genomfördes som en fem veckors fallstudie på ett vårdhem. Det empiriska materialet utgjordes av direkta observationer av de boendes interaktion med Paro samt halvstrukturerade intervjuer med personalen. Observationerna nedtecknades som fältanteckningar.Resultatet pekar på att sälen, i likhet med riktiga djur, kan tillföra aktivitet och välmående för vissa individer samt stimulera en grupp till samtal och ökad social kontakt.
Echoing nature - A design of an exhibition concept based on a natural phenomenon as a model to explore and learn
In the project Echoing Nature i have searched a design for an exhibi¬tion concept. That visualizes the natural phenomenon of self-assem¬bling materials in a simplified way. My question is, how can you emo¬tionally re-connect the modern man to nature and raise awareness. I assume my thesis that the experience of a natural phenomenon can inspire us to see a bigger context, provoke curiosity and generate an initial sense of belonging to nature. The result is an interactive sculp¬ture that consists of 3-dimensional Tetris blocks.
Lean Automation på Saab Automobile AB : ett hållbart och flexibelt produktionskoncept
Ett nytt produktionskoncept på Saab Automobile AB ? Lean Automation ? är under implementering och utveckling. Inriktningen är att utveckla automationslösningar som stödjer principer och arbetsätt inom Lean Produktion. En gemensam nämnare är automation som byggs upp av enkel, standardiserad och modulariserad utrustning och som kan omkonfigureras av egen personal.Två pilotinstallationer har gjorts under 2010: Transport med enkel AGV (Lean AGV) samt Lean Automation Robot Cell (LARC). Dessa komponenter ingår i denna studie som inriktar sig på förändringar i det totala produktionssystemet med sikte på en konstant hög produktivitetsnivå även vid frekventa förändringar i volym och produktinnehåll.Studien pekar på vikten av att samla produktionspersonalen för att underlätta balansering, men även för att skapa en visuell process där fel snabbt kan upptäckas och åtgärdas.

På FOI i Linköping bedriver man bland annat forskning inom radarteknik. Som en del i denna forskning ingår mätning av radarsignaturer samt skydd mot signalsökande robotar. Vid mätning av radarsignatur används det egenframtagna radarsystemet Arken. Arken används bland annat för att mäta signaturen på fartyg. Ett problem är att vid ett givet mättillfälle så är inte fartygets position eller attityd känd.

The purpose of this study is to discuss the use of social media by the Swedish Police for democratic purposes. The idea of citizen empowerment is closely related to the development of new communication technologies such as social media. Yet many studies indicate that governmental institutions rarely make use of the assumed potentials of social media.In this study, the democratic potential of social media is derived from Habermas normative concept of deliberative participation. Operational definitions emphasize discursive equality, interactive reciprocity and external impact. The analytical framework is combined with qualitative text analysis to highlight the conditions of interaction between representatives of the Police and citizens.In conclusion: the democratic potential of social media, from a Habermasian point of view, is to a significant extent neglected at the expense of its strategic advantages.
Konceptframtagning av robotcell för tillverkning av byggblock
Syftet med arbetet var att göra ett koncept av en robotcell som kunden skulle presentera för den Europeiska koncernen. Med konceptet som grund skulle koncernen ta ett beslut om de ville investera i en robotcell för att kunna utöka sin produktflora. Ett krav för att tillverka robotcellen var att göra den så flexibel som möjligt eftersom kunden ville producera olika varianter av samma produkt. En simulering i robotstudio blev en grund för en film som visade hur materialet tillverkades i robotcellen och även vilka materialprocesser som ingick vid förädlingen av materialet.Varje koncept började med en ritning i sketch för få en enkel överblick av hur layouten kunde se ut. Därefter bestämdes det om layouten var realistisk och om det skulle bli någon 3D modell av layouten.

The theoretical focus in this master is information retrieval (IR), and especially the part of IR that includes interactivity. This research is by some researchers called IIR. Our principal aim was to examine if search engines on the WWW are taking advantage of research results from IIR research. A way to do this is to look at the application of special features, in this case query expansion (QE) and relevance feedback (RF). Both these methods aim for a better matching of documents and the searchers information need.
