The purpose of this essay is to explore how students in secondary school seek out and use information. More specifically, the essay examines how the search and use of information differs between students working in groups and students working independently. The essay draws on in-depth interviews with six students. Two different theories are used to analyse the transcripts from the interviews. The first theory consists of Carol Kuhlthau?s six different stages showing how the students? feelings, emotions and actions change during the information seeking process.

Syftet med denna studie var att undersöka hur lärare kan utveckla sin undervisning med hjälp av digitala hjälpmedel och ta del av andra lärares erfarenheter med att arbeta med sådana hjälpmedel i slöjd, hem- och konsumentkunskap. Frågorna var; hur bidrar digitala hjälpmedel till att förbättra undervisningen i slöjden; Vilka för- och nackdelar upplever lärare av att arbeta med digitala verktyg; Hur väljer estetiska ämneslärare att kommunicera via nätbaserade kommunikationstjänster och vilka positiva, negativa konsekvenser har det kommunikationsvalet fört med sig? Tre olika metoder har använts för att samla in data till studien, deltagande observationer på en grundskola, aktioner för att designa undervisningen med digitala verktyg och intervjuer med lärare inom estetämnen. Enligt lärarna visade det sig att mer digitala redskap i undervisningen ökar elevers motivation. Digitala verktyg som mobiltelefoner distraherar elever dock, det bör finnas tydliga regler för dess användning.

Defining the concept of information has long been the subject of debate within Information Science (IS) and new challenges are constantly presented by new scientific discoveries and new theoretical positions. It is, nevertheless, of key importance for any academic discipline to find definitions on which there is a consensus. The paper therefore aims to clarify the relevance of one of these new theoretical approaches for IS, namely poststructuralism. It does so by describing the theories found in the writings of poststructuralists Mark C. Taylor, Jacques Derrida and Michel Foucault, and discussing their relevance for the three definitions of information suggested by Michael Buckland (Information-as-knowledge, Information-as thing and Information-as-process), thereby answering the following questions: What relevance does Mark C.

The purpose of this thesis was to investigate on what perspective or perspectives university teachers and librarians at a medium-sized university in Sweden base their view on information literacy. More specifically, how do the respondents view their own information literacy and what opinions they have of their students? information literacy as professionals. Three perspectives are used to interpret the results, the sociocultural perspective, the phenomenographical perspective and the behavioristic perspective.The method used is semi structured interviews with three university teachers and three librarians.Both librarians and teachers emphasize the importance of information literacy, for themselves as well as for students. The information literacy of the librarians involves being well acquainted with the subjects of the students.

This Masters thesis in Library and Information Science has the title The New Information Desks at Malmö Public Library . During the rebuilding of the library in Malmö a new information desk was developed. This desk differs to a great extent from conventional information desks used in libraries. The information desk is triangular with rounded edges which allows the librarian and the user of the library to work side by side without any physical barriers. The aim of this thesis is to explore the requirements for the information desks formulated by the library and how they are perceived by the librarians and the users of the library.

In a complex and turbulent world, several companies begin to realize the value of information as a strategic resource and try to find strategies to manage this. This master thesis aims to describe the information management at Axis Communications AB. Axis is a fast growing company and due to this they have not been able to manage the flow of information whitin the company. To find out how the information was managed at this time we made a survey and employee interviews at three Axis business units. By analyzing the surveys and interviews we found several problems.

In supporting an efficient way to gather and develop contact information for the Uppsala Association of Technology Physicist alumni, it is crucial to have in place an adequate and user-friendly system allowing the continuous collection and storage of such contact information. This can achieved by the creation of a website where alumni can enter information about themselves and where such information in turn is stored in a database. A database containing relevant tables has been developed in MySQL. In utilizing phpMyAdmin, the programming language PHP and Web Server Apache, a fully functional website to be included on the Association's website has been created..

The thesis aims at, from a user perspective, examining how a group of industrial researchers understand the information seeking in their every day work. A qualitative method is employed. The empirical material consists of open-ended interviews with in all ten researchers. All of them work at the Swiss-Swedish Technology Company ABB's research laboratory in Västerås. The thesis is based on the opinion that the scientific knowledge production has become commercialised and that the scientific communication is going through certain changes.

The numbers of mergers and acquisitions have increased significantly in the last period of time. Although this popularity for mergers and acquisitions, most of the mergers and acquisitions fail to create value. One explanation to this failure of value creation is, according to several studies, how companies treat integration of information systems in the pre-merger evaluation. The research within the field argues that information system integration should have a proactive role in mergers and acquisitions, meaning that information system integration should support the organizational change and normally be considered in the premerger evaluation. Både sjukdomen och dess behandlingar kan ge en påverkan på kroppen, men även den sexuella lusten och funktionen kan påverkas och förändras. Ett fungerande sexualliv utgör en viktig del av livskvaliteten för de flesta. Vårdpersonalen har en viktig roll i att förbereda patienten på vilka symtom de kan förvänta sig, men patienterna önskar ofta avsevärt mycket mer information än vad som ges. Syfte: Att belysa cancerpatienters behov av sexualitetsrelaterad information.

Under de senaste åren har det skett en integrering av informations- och kommunikationsteknik (IKT), exempelvis datorer, i såväl samhället som i skolans undervisning. Syftet med den aktuella litteraturstudien är att undersöka vilka samtalsaktiviteter som eleverna deltar i då de använder bärbara datorer eller handdatorer under matematiklektionerna, samt att belysa vilka möjligheter och hinder som framträder. Som teoretisk utgångspunkt ligger ett sociokulturellt perspektiv på lärandet där språket, den miljö som eleven befinner sig i och de redskap som används beskrivs som betydelsefulla aspekter för lärandet. I läroplanen förtydligas att elever ska ges möjlighet att delta i kommunikativa samspel och att modern teknologi ska användas så att eleven kan inhämta, lära och utveckla sin förmåga att kommunicera matematik. Tidigare forskning kring matematik visar att elevers kollaborativa lärande och användande av IKT främjar elevernas matematiska kunskaper och delaktighet i samtalet.

The purpose with this study is to map the research front and the research base in information science, by using the bibliometric methods bibliographic coupling and author-co citation analysis. The research questions are: 1. What is the nature of the research front in information science, regarding which areas that are being studied? 2. What is the nature of the research base in information science, regarding which authors who are most cited, and how they can be grouped? The data used in the study were gathered from articles published in the journal Journal of the American society for information science and technology, published between 2004-2006, respectively 1986-2006.
