Whatever theory we choose to believe in, the facts remain: today the media is a major part of all people?s lives. During our teacher training we have encountered the concepts Media Literacy and Media Education and as future pedagogues of media we are interested in what research can tell us about them.The main aim of this paper was to find out what researchers write about Media Literacy and Media Education and to empirically investigate whether or not teachers in the Swedish secondary school teach about, with and for media.

There is an increasing demand for Information Literacy, which is mirrored in curriculum throughout the whole educational system. This, in turn, has brought forward a growing need for librarians who can teach. But do librarians possess pedagogical competence, and if they do, how is this ability used in everyday library practice? The aim of this study is to investigate librarians' conceptions of the pedagogical role, as it is expressed in their didactic interaction with the users. The research questions focus on librarians' experiences of teaching information seeking and use and their activities in this respect.

The main purpose of this Masters thesis is to examine three Swedish librarians views on their role regarding their local learning centre and its adult students. The thesis also tries to find out whether the persons responsible for the local learning centres in these municipalities regard the libraries as a resource in this context and if the municipalities express the importance of such a cooperation in documents. Previous research in information seeking and learning is presented and a survey of lifelong learning, local learning centres and libraries is made. Relevant theories, such as Loertschers taxonomy, Kuhlthaus approaches of library skills instruction and levels of mediation as well as Bruces categories of Information Literacy, are presented and later used in the analysis. A qualitative method was found to be most appropriate for this study, as the majority of the empirical material has been collected through interviews.

The object of this master's thesis is to study students writtenappendixes for their first-year-essay, (A-uppsats). In theappendixes the students are asked to describe their search forinformation within five areas; strategy, resources, terminology,analysis and usefulness. The appendixes for the years 2006-2009are studied, 184 appendixes consisting of one A4 page each.This thesis focuses upon the study of resources, processes andfeelings displayed in the appendixes. The theories of Tom Wilson,Carol Collier Kuhlthau and Louise Limberg are used, as results ofother studies within the area. Connections with theories onInformation Literacy are also made.The results show that students usually do as they are instructed bylibrarians if it is profitable for their studies.

This thesis aims to examine how teachers who teach the Swedish subject, uses film in their education. The survey was given to 30 of these teachers in Nykoping, half which are working in junior high schools, and half which are working in high schools. One importantcondition to this works implementation, is the existence of the widen text concept that points to that all media is a concept that can be read and analysed. This is the attitude that The National Agency for Education aims at in different govern documents. The National Agency for education also request teachers to give the students tools to the media literacy that the society demands.

The theme of this essay is literacy training in pre-school. The theme takes it starting point in a project, where my colleagues and I noticed our children playing with writing and symbols. It leads to an exciting, reflecting and developing project, a project that will go on for six months together with twenty children in the age of five and six.The essay describes how I and the rest of the staff work with the project, and also how we try to find challenges that are meaningful for our children. When we worked with the project I ended up in a dilemma how I as a teacher was to retain the children?s joy and curiosity for writing without making it boring.

This paper describes how teachers of media view and construct their subjects. Eight teachers have been interviewed about their views and opinions about the media environment, their goals for media education as well as their opinions about the different course plans used in media education. The term Media Literacy works as a theoretical starting point for the study, since Media Literacy is the goal for most media education. The teachers? answers have been analyzed by using three different approaches to media education: protection, promotion and empowerment.

I have with this thesis sought to understand how chick lit could be useful in the classroom in the teaching of Swedish B-course in high school. Based on the model of critical literacy I am arguing that this genre would help to meet the objectives of the policy documents which, among other things, are to critically examine and analyze various types of texts.I have found that some of these texts could be used for analyzing and critically examine the ideological dimensions of texts and cultural heritage by the model of critical literacy, and also as a counterweight to the more traditional teaching of the canonical literature as a literary historical stuff that students should learn. I have also wanted to create a basis for discussions about literature in the classroom based on the chick lit genre. To do this I have, based on three themes and questions from the model of critical literacy, tried to focus on issues that might emerge from the ideological analysis and critical review. The model aims to deconstruct norms of society, and in the work of chick lit, I wanted to show how you could deconstruct norms around gender..

This master thesis is based on the sociocultural perspective. A qualitative research study was conducted to investigate children's attitudes towards reading, texts and libraries.The theoretical background is constituted by ideas from the new sociology of childhood, literacy-studies and reader-response theory.The study was conducted with 23 children, 13 girls and 10 boys, participating in focus groups.The results of the study reveal that children's literacy-activities in school are strongly influenced and limited by adults. Children's interest in pictures and non-fiction-reading do not correspond to the school institution that favors traditional media and fiction. The study also reveals a gender division between children's literacy-activities that tends to grow with age. All the children in the study regard libraries as book-houses and wished for libraries that combine activity and serenity.The thesis shows the importance of being aware of, and engage in, children's reading-interests and reading-practices if the reading stimulating activities in schools and libraries are to be successful.

Denna uppsats utforskar förskollärares erfarenheter och synpunkter på att förebygga läs- och skrivsvårigheter, med syfte att göra pedagoger medvetna om hur man kan förebygga läs- och skrivsvårigheter. Denna uppsats utgår ifrån språkliga orsaker och literacy används som en teoretisk utgångspunkt. Literacy handlar om hur barn lär sig ett språk i ett socialt sammanhang, exempelvis genom att en vuxen läser en bok eller genom namnskyltar på förskolan. Jag har använt mig av intervjuer med två förskollärare för att utforska deras erfarenheter av att förebygga läs- och skrivsvårigheter. Båda pedagoger menar att det är för tidigt att sätta en stämpel på ett förskolebarn för läs- och skrivsvårigheter, men att arbete med språket i förskolan är viktigt och är en del av förskolans arbete.

The purpose of this paper is to examine how teachers choose to work with the teaching of reading and writing skills, how teachers justify their choice of teaching method and how the documentation of student development is being used. This paper also discusses the definition of reading and writing, phonological awareness and how different reading- and writing educational methods can be combined. The gathering of information has been done through a literature review in which I have looked at past research on reading and writing. I have also conducted qualitative interviews with teachers involved in literacy learning. The result of my research shows that it is not possible to determine which literacy learning methods that are most effective.

Skolverket (2011) har visat på att svenska skolbarns läskunskaper sjunker. Syftet med vår studie är att undersöka litteraturens och läsningens plats i förskola och förskoleklass samt utifrån pedagogers föreställningar om litteratur och läsning få förståelse för vilken betydelse deras ställningstaganden har för barnens litteracitet. Vi tittar bland annat på miljöns möjligheter för barnets identitet som läsare, som vi utgår ifrån formas av pedagogernas föreställningar om barn, litteratur och läsning. Teorier om literacy och critical literacy där nyfikenhet och intresse inför läsaktiviteter ställs emot teori om språklig medvetenhet och den tekniska färdigheten att kunna läsa, för att se eventuella tendenser på hur pedagogernas arbetssätt format barnens framtida läskunskaper. Även andra lärandeteorier samt redskap för läsning presenteras för att få en vidare förståelse av problemområdet som vi undersöker.

The purpose of my study is to examine why five primary school teachers chose to start using the method ?Learning reading by writing on computer? in their teaching. How do they perceive that the method works in their classroom and do they perceive that the method affect the children?s literacy?The study consists of a qualitative method in form of interviews with five primary school teachers and also some observations made by me in the classrooms. I will use the findings I made during the interviews and observations and contrast these to relevant literature and research that I have collected.The result of my study shows that all of the interviewed teachers had a self-interest in working with the method ?Learning reading by writing on computers? and that they also worked closely with colleagues.
