In this seed orchard a tent experiment is taking place. Skogforsk has built six large tents covering 12-14 trees with each tent. Fertilization patterns were compared between one tree in a tent with a supplementation of pollen from five clones not represented in the tent and another tree of the same clone subject to open pollination outside the tents. By using DNA markers the paternity was determined for 48 seeds from each tree.

Several diseases increase the risk of thrombosis in dogs and cats, often with a fatal outcome. Currently there are no definite treatment guidelines for the use of thrombolytic and thromboprofylactic agents in veterinary medicine. None of these drugs are approved for dogs and cats in Sweden. Medicines aimed for humans have been used tentatively. This literature study is an investigation of what is currently known about the effects and safety of these pharmacological agents when used for dogs and cats.

Rwanda is one of the poorest countries in the world and about 70-80 % of the population lives in rural areas. The land is strongly affected by land erosion which makes it difficult for the agriculture and food production. Agroforestry is a system where tree plantation is combined with livestock- and crop production. The system provides soil fertilization and binds the soil together. Some of the trees used in agroforestry systems are also used as fodder.

Picropodophyllin (PPP) is an analogue of the anti tumour lignan podophyllotoxin with the unique ability to selectively inhibit the receptor of Insulin like growth factor 1(IGF-1). IGF-1 is believed to play an important part in development of the endometrium facing implantation. With PPP treated mice, studies can be made to measure gene expression from tissue of both treated and untreated mice to compare the role of IGF-1 regarding ovulation, implantation and receptivity. The aim of this study was to analyze gene expression of some steroid hormone receptors and cytokines in ovaries from mice treated with PPP. In this study, seven mice were treated with PPP at different times and tissue was collected.

I denna litteraturstudie undersöks det populära örtpreparatet munkpeppar och dess användningsområden inom hästvärlden. Idag administreras munkpeppar till problemston hos vilka det sägs minska brunstbeteende. Det försäljs även till hästägare vars hästar lider av Cushing's sjukdom där växten påstås lindra symptomen. Munkpeppar har i in vitro försök visats ha dopaminerg, opioidagonistisk och viss östrogen effekt. Det är den dopaminerga effekten i adenohypofysen man vill åt vid behandling av problemston och hästar med Cushing's sjukdom.

The main purpose with this study was to investigate whether the tree growth differs or not in prescribed burnt areas compared to mechanically scarified. Together with the result from the main purpose, answers of whether it's possible or not to combine nature conservation with tree production in prescribed burnt areas was presented. In these areas the regeneration were analyzed to see if there was enough tree plants to comply with the Swedish Forestry Act regulations terms for approved regeneration. A field survey was conducted at 6 objects, three objects for prescribed burning and three for mechanically scarification. All objects were planted within the same year.

Askåterföringen på fastmark syftar till att återställa den långsiktiga näringsbalansen och motverka markförsurningen. Den är ett led i ett kretsloppstänkande där allt som tas ifrån marken också ska återföras.Ett ökat behov av skogsbiobränslen leder till att grenar och toppar (GROT) i allt högre utsträckning flyttas från skogen därmed förflyttas en stor del av viktiga näringsämnen. Baskatjonerna som annars motverkar markförsurningen blir kvar i askan.Askan som blir kvar efter förbränning läggs vanligen på deponi, men med hjälp av införda deponiskatter är målsättningen att askan ska återföras till skogen för att sluta kretsloppet.För markvärdesberäkningarna användes värderingsprogrammet Plan33. 12 trädslagsrena fiktiva bestånd skapades, 6 fastmarksbestånd och 6 bestånd på dikad torvmark, med medianboniteter för Götaland.Tillväxteffekterna har visat sig vara måttliga på fastmark. Denna studie visar att endast granmarker ger positivt nuvärde vid askåterföring i Götaland.

A secondary and a pioneer tree species can with advantage be included in a mixed stand to increase the use of sunlight. Nitrogen-fixing plants have been shown to increase the supply of nitrogen in the soil by, for example, litter fall. This deposition acts as a biological fertilization, which may be used by non-fixing plants. Alder is a nitrogen-fixing, pioneer tree species that loses its nitrogen-rich leaves late in the autumn. The aim of this study was to examine the effect on the total volume of production, when different proportions of nitrogen-fixing Alder were part of spruce stands.

Syfte Syftet med studien är att undersöka hållfasthetsskillnader för yttriumstabiliserade tetragonala zirkoniumdioxid-distanser (Y-TZP) vid cementering kontra skruvretinering av zirkoniakronor. Material och metod Tjugotvå överkonstruktioner fastsatta på fixturer delades upp i två grupper. En grupp bestod av cementerade zirkoniakronor på en zirkoniadistans. Den andra gruppen bestod av skruvretinerade zirkoniakronor direkt på fixturnivå. Samtliga kronor som vanligtvis skulle genomgått porslinspåbränning fick genomgå bränningsprogram i en porslinsugn.

Hos framförallt galopphästar är skador på den ytliga böjsenan vanligt förekommande. Den ytliga böjsenan är en energibevarande elastisk struktur som utsätts för stor mekanisk belastning vid hög fart. För att klara av detta behöver den vara både stark och elastisk, egenskaper som står i konflikt med varandra. En starkare sena får sämre elastiska egenskaper vilket gör energiåtgången större. Säkerhetsmarginalen för vad senan utsätts för in vivo och maximalt klarar av in vitro tycks vara liten, något som delvis kan förklara den höga skadefrekvensen.Patogenesen är inte helt klarlagd men ruptur av den ytliga böjsenan verkar föregås av degeneration.

Glycerol is essential for the lipid metabolism of both plants and animals. Glycerol is formed in the rumen by hydrolysis of lipids from the feed. Glycerol is also a by-product from the production of biodiesel from rapeseed oil and other fat sources. Glycerol might be used as a dietary glucose precursor for dairy cows in similar ways as propylene glycol. Due to increased production of biodiesel more glycerol has been available to a lower price.

The business mission of Norra Skogsägarna is to achieve a profitable forestry for the private forest owners. With this as a background it is of interest for the forest owner association to know how forest owners think about voluntary retentions, the methods of increasing production and quality and if there are differences between those who have chosen to certify their forest and those who haven?t. This kind of knowledge is of importance, to in an effectively and adjusted way, help the forest owners achieve a profitable forestry. The objective of this master thesis is to increase knowledge about private forest owners? opinions of the methods of increasing production and quality and to what extent these methods are used.

Immune stimulating complex (iscom) matrix is a formulation that is used as anadjuvant within research. The capability of the iscom matrix to elicit an immuneresponse when not present together with an antigen has not been extensivelyinvestigated. One way to evaluate the status of the immune system is to measure theamount of cytokines that usually are produced by various cell types during an immuneresponse. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the early immune responses inporcine peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) after stimulation in vitro with theiscom matrix, AbISCO®-100. The immune response was evaluated by measuring themRNA expression for various cytokines, a chemokine receptor (CXCR4) andregulator of G-protein signaling (RGS16) in porcine PBMC after stimulation withAbISCO®-100 or other inducers like a lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and a CpGoligodeoxynucleotide (ODN 2216) used as controls.

Based on laboratory studies with lysimeters, the concentrations of dissolved reactive phosphorus(DRP) and particulate phosphorus, which is the main part of other P (OVRP), has been studied inpercolating water. The experiment was conducted through irrigation of small soil columnscontaining clay topsoil from an experimental field in Västergötland. Three rain simulations wereconsecutively performed. DRP concentrations in the percolating water ranged between 0.2 - 0.3mg·Lclearly related to the phosphorus concentration in the soil, measured in a soil extract ofammonium lactate (P-AL). Concentrations of OVRP were relatively low and ranged between0.12 and 0.16 mg·Lwas not proven and the experiment may reflect how a relatively slow percolation of water mayrelease DRP.
