The goal and purpose of this essay is to study if and how multimodality is used within a Swedish school in Kalmar. This is accomplished by observing the different modalities inside the classroom and how the use of different modalities affects the teaching. Unstructured observations combined with a material-based thematic presentation leads up to an analysis based on social semiotics and multimodality. The essay shows how the teaching uses lots of modalities: sound, images, movies, speeches and literary text in lots of different ways. These different types of modalities are used in a multimodal context, providing good conditions for learning..

This essay is an analysis of mythologies in the Swedish women´s magazine VeckoRevyn. The magazine?s own explicit purpose is to break down the unhealthy opinion of what beauty is in their industry today. By content and linguistic analysis the results of this study are interconnected to the beauty myth as it was established by Naomi Wolf in 1991. The goal is to pinpoint how VeckoRevyn?s question and answer columns construct relationships to their readers, and the mythologies that they maintain.

Online dating and ?People nearby applications? (PNA) has become more popular in today?s society. With PNA you can easily find people who are nearby you that you can socialize with and maybe even meet. In this paper we study the mobile application Badoo and explore how it is used for dating in clubs in Stockholm through observations that we participated in. We also had a group interview with five Badoo users about their usage of the application.

Today, we live in a consumption society. We buy products to soothe our needs and desires. Thru material things we can express our own personal identity and shopping is seen more as a pleasure than a need to survive. With the background media- and communication studies, the reason of this study was to explore how blogs as a social medium can influence the consumption ideal in society. With dialogical analysis and semiotic analysis we wanted to see if we could find a specific consumption culture in the content of six blogs we did our studies on. We found that the blogs showed us that there is normal to have everyday luxury and spoil oneself with expensive things.

This thesis project focuses on the need for better tools for analyzing competition for forest fuels in Sweden, in particular how policy measures may influence the market and involved actors in different regions of Sweden. Raw materials from the forest have for long constituted important inputs in the Swedish forest industry. Today some of these raw materials are increasingly used as inputs also in bioenergy production, largely driven by bioenergy promoting policies, and there are signs of increased competition for forest fuels which may have various and uncertain effects on the industries in question. The thesis project explores the possibilities to adapt previously used forest sector equilibrium models into a new model suitable for analysis of Swedish forest fuel markets, called the Swedish Forest Sector Trade Model (SFSTM). The approach takes into account regional differences in supply and demand for 23 types of products produced and/or used by eight types of producers, plus consumers, in five different regions (four Swedish and one international).

I denna studie studeras rekordårens betydelse som historiebärare och kulturmiljö i förhållande till nutida stadsbyggnadsförändringar för att tillmötesgå 2010-talets ideal om en tät och stadsmässig boendemiljö. Krav på ökad bostadsproduktion i landets större städer och upprustning av rekordårens bebyggelsebestånd är andra anledningar till fysiska förändringar och nybyggnation. Det har vid tillbyggnad i befintliga bostadsområden visat sig svårt att kommunicera den ursprungliga stadsplanen och de kvaliteter som den är sammankopplad med, det är denna konflikt som utgör studiens kärnproblematik. För att studera sambandet mellan platshistorisk hänsyn och nybyggnation genom förtätning utförs en fallbaserad analys av rekordårsområdet Hageby i Norrköping där tre alternativa förtätningsförslag presenteras utifrån generell teori och forskningsöversikt om kulturmiljövård och rekordårens flerbostadshusområden där de övertygelser som formade dem samt den roll de har att spela som kulturmiljö redovisas..

In this report two Sustainability Life Cycle Assessments are carried out for two types of tiles for Riksbyggen, to contribute to a sustainable urban transition. Sustainability Life Cycle Assessment involves performing a life cycle assessment based on four principles based on scientific research and presented by the non- governmental, non-profit organization, The Natural Step. The principles concern raw materials, chemically produced substances, degeneration of nature and social conditions.Origin of products, manufacturing sites and manufacturing procedures were initially completely unknown and much of the work has consisted of finding the entire cycles, understand manufacturing processes of ceramic tiles and evaluating what materials and what type of energy sources that are required for the production. A socially sustainable perspective has been of high relevance alongside an ecologically sustainable perspective.The report begins with the basic underlying facts and the purposes of this investigation and that the reasons why Sustainability Life Cycle Assessments are carried out are to provide Riksbyggen and the own workers with documents presenting Riksbyggens ideas regarding sustainability and to hopefully get the ideas further down in the supply chain. The methods used to fulfill the investigation are presented and scientific facts about LCA and ceramic building materials are reviewed.

The schools purpose is to educate students according to events that are of current interest and take place in present time. According to Swedish curriculum, Lpf94, all Swedish education should include and discuss the problems surrounding durable development. The purpose of the study is to se how the textbooks in History, Social studies and Geography and their contents meet the demands of the curriculum. The study shows that only the textbooks in geography meets the demands that the curriculums have on durable development.

The society of consumption exposes us to a lot of information, where advertisement constitutes an extensive part. Due to its expanding, advertisement receives a natural and obvious space in our everyday life. This study aims to investigate how social and cultural values can be mediated in advertisement. The focus has been put to ideas related to health and fitness in the advertisement of power drinks. The thesis takes social constructionism as a starting point, and combines image- and critical discourse analysis in purpose to analyze the pictures.Sociology of consumption, construction of identity, lifestyle and everyday life all constitute an essential part of my analysis.

I och med ombyggnationer i Stockholmsförorten Hässelby strand planeras det nu för en restaurering, tillgänglighetsanpassning och utveckling av den befintliga vegetationen i parken Stråket. Tidigast hösten 2008 kommer restaureringen att påbörjas. Parken stod färdig vid mitten av 60-talet men uppfördes enligt stockholmsstilens ideal, vilket var rådande för parker som anlades under 40- och 50-talet. Växtmaterialet från den här tiden behöver i hög grad ses över idag med avseende på bland annat funktion och kondition, vilket också den aktuella parken är i behov av. Syftet med arbetet är att ge förslag på riktlinjer till hur parken ska utvecklas och då med avseende på de mål som också föreslås. För att kunna förstå parkens uppbyggnad och hur stockholmsstilen återspeglas i parken redovisas inledningsvis historik och kulturvärden. För att klargöra om parkens ingående element, funktioner med mera finns en inventering- och analysdel. .

Ätstörningar som Anorexia Nervosa och Bulimia Nervosa präglas av en rädsla för att gå upp i vikt. Något som är mycket centralt hos dessa patienter är hur de ser på sig själva. Syftet med föreliggande litteraturstudie var att belysa fenomenet ätstörningar ur ett bio-psyko-socialt perspektiv. Metoden som användes var en litteraturstudie där 16 artiklar sammanställdes till ett resultat. Resultatet visar att pojkar och flickor med ätstörning har en nedvärderande självsyn och en självbild som påverkas av relationer till både föräldrar och vänner.

Stress är ett allt mer vanligt problem i dagens samhälle, och det finns tydlig forskning som visar att allt fler ungdomar drabbas av psykisk ohälsa. Syftet med studien var att undersöka hur ungdomar (18-19 år) på en gymnasieskola i Norrbotten upplevde stress och hur de beskrev att det påverkade dem. Två ungdomar valde att delta i studien. Dessa två ungdomar intervjuades och delade med sig av sina erfarenheter och upplevelser av stress, varpå intervjuerna bearbetades enligt kvalitativ innehållsanalys. Resultatet visade att det fanns ett flertal saker som bidrog till stress hos informanterna, bland annat press, krav och förväntningar på körkort samt ideal.

Denna studie handlar om hur sjuksköterskor på en kirurgisk vårdavdelning upplever ronden och vilken betydelse ronden kan ha för sjuksköterskornas arbete. Undersökningen har genomförts som en kvalitativ enkätundersökning med öppna frågor. Manifest innehållsanalys har använts för att analysera enkätsvaren. I studien besvarade tio av de 15 legitimerade sjuksköterskorna, som arbetade dag- och/eller kvällspass, enkäten. I resultatet framkom att tankar och känslor inför ronden kretsar kring förberedelser, stress och tidspress.

Varje dag utsätts vi för stora mängder av reklam via massmedia. Kan dessa ständiga stimuli på-verka vår självbild eller självkänsla negativt? Syftet med detta examensarbete var att undersöka mäns och kvinnors inställning till det skönhetsideal som förmedlas via massmedia och om det finns ett samband mellan reklampåverkan och egen självbild. Även inställningar till ett attraktivt utseende hos sig själv och en eventuell partner studerades. En enkätundersökning genomfördes med universitetsstuderande män och kvinnor vid Luleå tekniska universitet.
