This Mag. thesis discusses how a gender perspective could be implemented in themanagement of cultural heritage focusing on the built environments in Sweden.The thesis further argues for the need of a gender perspective on the conservationof cultural heritage.The two main approaches, additive through the perspective of the women?s part inhistory and integrated gender perspective, are thoroughly presented in the thesis.In the additive gender approach built objects that represent women?s experiencesand lives are added to a history that traditionally represents men and theirexperiences. The integrated gender perspective includes a gender in all activitiesas an instrument in a historic analysis. The gender perspective illustrates therelation between the sexes.

This graduate essay treats how the cultural heritage of Gothenburg is mediated in different respect.The various sources that have been studied are literary such as guidebooks and books that tell thehistory of Gothenburg. In the second chapter isthe mediation of the history behind cultural heritage as well as its present interpretation described.Therefore, in chapter three, is a short version of the history of Gothenburg described. Syftet med denna uppsats är att undersöka hur nationella föreställningar producerats och reproducerats inom den svenska scoutrörelsen.Jag har funnit scoutrörelsen intressant att studera därför att den å ena sidan uppstod i en nationalistisk kontext och å andra sidan utgjorde en internationell organisation med internationalistiska strävanden.Denna uppsats utgår från att föreställningar om nationen konstrueras i förhållande till något annat, att Sverige och "svenskhet" formuleras med utgångspunkt i föreställningar om begreppens motsatser. "Vi" uppstår i relation till "de andra". I denna uppsats analyserar jag koloniala föreställningars närvaro i scoutmaterialet och använder dessa för att på så sätt dyrka upp föreställningarna om nationen och om "oss". Detta görs utifrån en diskursanalytisk utgångspunkt med inspiration från postkolonial teori som erbjuder en teoretisk ansats till förklaring av den interaktion i föreställningarna mellan "vi" och "de andra"..

This master thesis is a study of a new electronic library reference service-project called Speak instantly to a librarian and the purpose of the thesis is to investigate a new electronic reference service and how the librarians who work with it experience it. This should be seen from an informational society point of view. The study is conducted from two questions: - What needs do the libraries have and how do they argue for the project and the chat-reference service Speak instantly to a librarian? - How do the librarians experience the personal work situation in the new reference service, and its use of chat technology? Together with interviews of a selected group of librarians from the public libraries of Göteborg, Malmö, Nacka and Stockholm, this thesis includes aspects such as the theory of the informational society by Manuel Castells, as well as literary studies of the history of library reference, the development of electronic reference service and the virtual library, and the background and the beginning of the studied project Speak instantly to a librarian. The thesis also contains an overlook of other similar library projects in the United States of America.

This essay is from a student at the cultural science program in Karlstad University. The essay in Culture studies deals about the history use and about the cultural-historical values on buildings. The buildings are from a certain area called the neighborhood Almen and have in the past been threatening many times of demolition. The neighborhood Almen buildings survived a huge city fire back in the 19th century. Since then the buildings has been known as a memory and by the inhabitants and as the oldest part of the city left.

The aim of this Masters thesis is to examine subject positions of masculinity in the fantasy novels by Michael Moorcock, spanning from the sixties to the present. Questions are: Which positions of masculinity dominate in four fantasy works by Michael Moorcock? How do these positions differ from each other or are there similarities? Do they strengthen or undermine the hegemonic masculinity? How do these positions of masculinity relate to historic configurations of masculinity? In order to find feasible answers to these questions I have used a theoretical and methodological approach rooted in the sociology of literature, mens studies and discourse analysis. Different masculinities are defined as subject positions. The hegemonic masculinity is defined as the image of masculinity that dominate and that every man has to relate to, in one way or another.

The purpose of the study was to determine the attitudes of the teachers of Reggio Emilia inspired preschools concerning the science work with children between the ages of one and three, as well as their opinions on how the physical preschool environment and the choice of materials influence their scientific work. The study was conducted in three departments of two different kindergartens. Although both kindergartens called themselves Reggio Emilia inspired, their working methods and their environments differed largely. None of them were originally built as Reggio Emilia inspired preschools. One of the kindergartens strived to design their indoor environment the same way as the preschools of Reggio Emilia are constructed, there for they were setting up different stations where the children themselves have the opportunity to explore various scientific areas.

Uppsatsen tar sin utgångspunkt i den förväntade konflikten mellan stat och kommun i tillhandahållandet av välfärdstjänster. För att möjliggöra en omfördelnings- och stabiliseringspolitik använder sig vissa länder, såsom Sverige, av utjämningssystem. En alltför omfattande utjämning riskerar emellertid att ske på bekostnad av möjligheten att anpassa kompensationen efter faktiska kostnader. Uppsatsen återknyter till frågeställningen om kompensationen från staten är tillräcklig. I fokus står de kostnader kommuner har för tilhandahållandet av välfärdstjänster för invandrare, vilket sker mot bakgrund av att tidigare studier visar på otillräcklig kompensation.

There is respect for the history of dance and my aim is to find out how the history affects the dancing youth today. The design of the dance lesson is often of a traditional stereotypical manner, both didactic and methodic, and it rarely appears to be questioned. I have danced for almost 20 years and I am a part of this tradition of movements, music, language and way of ?being?. The purpose of this paper is to examine how the relationship between the socially constructed genders is manifested in American library science. To visualize gender, bibliometric analyses of peer reviewed articles published in three core journals of library science between 1980 and 2000 inclusive, are performed. The three journals are: College and Research Libraries, Journal of Academic Librarianship and Library Quarterly. Questions: 1. Does gender affect the publishing process regarding the distribution of female and male authors? 2.

In this thesis I have criticized traditional nationalism theories formulated by Eric Hobsbawm, Ernest Gellner, Benedict Anderson and Anthony D. Smith. The critique has been based on my belief that nationalism theories do not explain nations whose foundation is built on forward-looking, dynamic aspects such as economy, human and civil rights, and democracy. Traditional nationalism theories have been focused on historicizing perspectives whereas I want to draw attention to non-historicizing perspectives within the field of research. So far nationalism theories has had a shared past or a shared ethnicity as its focal point.
