Immobilisering av extremitetsfrakturer inom ambulanssjukvård : Ett pilotprojekt med SAM-splint

Within the ambulance care in Uppsala County a vacuum splint is used to immobilize fractures on extremities. The research available on which method of immobilizing to prefer during pre-hospital treatment is limited. The purpose of this pilot study was to examine the perceptions of the ambulance personal in Uppsala County on the issue of usability of SAM-splint and vacuum splint when immobilizing extremities. The project was also aimed at researching if SAM-splint could be seen as an alternative or a complement to vacuum splint, and to get an apprehension on any evident differences in patients? perceived pain when treated with the two different approaches. A descriptive comparative study was carried out. All patients, regardless of age and sex, with the need of immobilizing supposed fractures, were included.  Patients with suspected femur fracture, collum fracture, or where pre-hospital care was not possible or in question, was excluded.

Stem injection of different nitrogen forms into young Norway spruce

This master thesis has been a pilot study preceding a forthcoming project of a larger scale with the long term objective to separate the direct effect of added nitrogen on soil processes from indirect effects via trees. The aim of this study has been to investigate the allocation of nitrogen following direct injection of liquid solutions into the xylem of 40 year old Norway spruce. The field site is located at Flakaliden (64°07?N, 19°27?E), approximately 60 km northwest of Umeå, Sweden. A total of 18 trees were selected for treatment, equally divided between three treatments, potassium nitrate, glutamine and water (control).

In severe cases it can be difficult to differentiate basal cell carcinoma from other skin tumors, therefore a skin biopsy is conclusive diagnostic method. In terms of treatment, curettage is a common non-surgical treatment of basal cell carcinoma.

"Dom är ju som vilken patient som helst" : Sjuksköterskors uppfattningar om att vårda patienter med missbruk eller beroende

Bakgrund: Bakgrunden beskriver hur sjuksköterskor bemöter patienter med missbruk och beroende. Den beskriver även vikten av en främjande vårdrelation samt hur patienter med missbruk och beroende önskar bli bemötta av sjuksköterskor inom beroendevård.Syfte: Syftet var att beskriva sjuksköterskors uppfattningar av att vårda patienter med missbruk eller beroende med fokus på bemötandet i vårdrelationen.Metod: Fem sjuksköterskor, yrkesverksamma inom beroendevård, intervjuades. Materialet analyserades med kvalitativ innehållsanalys.Resultat: Resultatet läggs fram genom två kategorier, Sjuksköterskors beskrivningar av hur de förhåller sig till patienter med missbruk eller beroende.  Denna kategori har fem subkategorier. Den andra kategorin är Sjuksköterskors önskan att göra gott för patienter med missbruk eller beroende.

The private sewage systems in Sweden releases around 600 tons of phosphorus per year, compared to about 350 tons from municipal sewage treatment plants, and they account for approximately 21% of the total anthropogenic discharge of phosphorus into Swedish waters. About 40% of Sweden's nearly 1 million private sewage systems are inferior with respect to emissions to surface and groundwater. The technology of small sewage plants is under development and knowledge of treatment effects for different solutions is poorly consolidated. Municipal authorities lack resources to keep up with the technologic development and assess the reliability of the treatment performances that suppliers report for their products. The thesis aims to conduct a market review and evaluation of wholly or partially prefabricated small sewage plants, to make it easier for municipalities and property owners to assess different technical solutions. The goal is a compilation of the products on the market, evaluated on the basis of the reliability of specified degrees of reduction.Information on sampling procedures and test results were collected through a questionnaire to all active suppliers and the responses were then used to classify the products.

Mentaliseringsbaserad terapi mot borderline personlighetsstörning : De professionellas upplevelser av dess effekt och verksamma komponenter

Det övergripande syftet med studien var att undersöka hur personalen på en psykiatrisk mottagning upplevde den behandling som de ger för borderline personlighetsstörning, mentaliseringsbaserad terapi. Genom en kvalitativ metod och fokusgrupper söktes svar på frågeställningarna. Det empiriska materialet analyserades med hjälp av tematisk analys och resultatet visade att behandlingen generellt upplevdes ha förbättrat patienternas livskvalitet. De flesta av patienterna gjorde helt andra livsval efter avslutad behandling och en del uppfyllde inte längre de diagnostiska kriterierna för borderline personlighetsstörning. De som hade fullföljt behandlingen eller nästan fullföljt den var de som hade dragit mest nytta av den.

Stormwater in urban areas has been treated as a problem for a long time. The large proportion of impermeable surfaces inhibits the water from infiltrating in the ground to the same extent that it does in nature. This causes intensive surface flow during rain, which in turn causes inconveniences such as decreased accessability, floods and increased risk of desease spreading. Drainage through pipes is the traditional and usually functional metod for storm water disposal. That is as long as water flows are moderate. But precipitation varies naturally in amount and intensity and additional impermeable surfaces make some pipes insufficient for heavy or lasting precipitation.
