Bakgrund: Urinvägsinfektion är den vanligast förekommande vårdrelaterade infektionen och innebär förekomst av bakterier i urinen med eller utan symtom. Det finns ett flertal faktorer som gör att äldre är en riskgrupp för att drabbas av urinvägsinfektion bland annat samsjuklighet och funktionsnedsättningar. Urinvägsinfektioner leder till lidande hos den äldre individen och stora kostnader för samhället. Sjuksköterskan har ett ansvar att förebygga sjukdom och minska lidande.Syfte: Syftet var att beskriva sjuksköterskans omvårdnadsåtgärder, upplevda effekter samt effekter av dessa, för att förebygga uppkomst av urinvägsinfektion hos äldre samt att beskriva de inkluderade artiklarnas urvalsmetod och undersökningsgrupp.Metod: En litteraturstudie med deskriptiv design. Studien baseras på 14 vetenskapliga artiklar.

Native spider silk is an attractive lightweight natural polymeric material with a unique combination of strength, extendibility and flexibility. Synthetic, recombinant spider silk is an attractive biomaterial with several possible fields of application. When a foreign material is introduced to blood, this can for example cause unwanted coagulation and complement activation. The aim of this study was to investigate if coatings of heparin or albumin could improve the blood compatibility of films of recombinant spider silk and to develop an initial method to do so. Hypothetically, objects like pacemakers, stents and dental implants could be covered with spider silk films of high blood compatibility to reduce potentially harmful foreign body reactions caused by the immune defense. Increased blood compatibility would likely lead to improvements for both the individual patients and the society thanks to reduced load on healthcare institutions. Our objective was to assess the blood compatibility of both functionalized and non-functionalized recombinant spider silk by evaluating coagulation and activation of the complement system of the immune defense. Coagulation was evaluated visually on glass slides and complement activation was analyzed by measuring the concentration of the complement system mediator C3a in blood samples that had been exposed to the different materials. This study introduces a non-toxic and easy performed method of improving the blood compatibility of recombinant spider silk films by adding a heparin coating. Heparin coated surfaces had statistically significantly higher blood compatibility than uncoated surfaces. The effects of albumin coating of films were less clear compared to the results of heparin coated films. Complement activation could not be evaluated because of high activation in all samples prior contact with the materials that were included in the study..

Aim: On the basis of the Swedish 2012 National Patient Survey and its open answers, study how patients experienced the quality of care during hospitalization in a surgical divisionMethod: In this study, 306 patients' responses was compiled and analyzed by qualitative content analysis and reported descriptively in running text.Results: The way patients were treated by staff was experienced by respondents mainly as positive. The staffs? courteous and sympathetic attitudes were appreciated. The food that was served was described as substandard, distasteful and dull. The cleanliness of the hospital departments were reported to be inadequate, particularly in washrooms.

Bakgrund: Konsekvenserna av att låta anhöriga närvara under återupplivning har studerats i vetenskaplig litteratur, mestadels ur vårdpersonals perspektiv. Att som sjuksköterska stödja och informera närvarande anhöriga skulle kunna göra en kaotisk och obehaglig situation mer förståelig. Då torde det vara viktigt att som sjuksköterska kunna förstå närvarande anhörigas upplevelser.Syfte: Att belysa närvaro av anhöriga vid återupplivning utifrån anhöriga och patienters perspektiv.Metod: En litteraturöversikt sammanställdes med tio vetenskapliga artiklar.Resultat: Både positiva och negativa aspekter av anhörigas närvaro vid återupplivning hade registrerats i artiklarna. Till de positiva aspekterna räknades att de anhöriga bättre kunde förstå patientens situation genom att närvara, samt att anhöriga även kunde fungera som ett stöd för sina familjemedlemmar, vilket påpekades av såväl anhöriga som patienter. Till de negativa aspekterna räknades att de anhöriga kunde känna sig i vägen för vårdpersonal.

Today there are over 100 000 stray cats in Sweden and of these 10 000 are found in Gothenburg. There are several instances that try to reduce the number of stray cats. The problem for stray cats is primarily the suffering they may face in hunger, cold, predators, diseases, parasites, accidents, etc. The cats receive no veterinary care and may die from a simple infection that easily can be cured with antibiotics. Stray cats also can spread diseases to domestic cats, be a sanitary problem and compete with other small predators on prey. Authorities working with stray cats are the Country Administrative Board and the police authority.

The large number of surrendered and feral cats is a big animal welfare problem all over the world. Populations of feral cats arise through a large number of unwanted cats which can lead to surrender of these, through cats allowed to roam free outside which can lead to the owner losing these and through the reproduction that occurs amongst these surrendered or lost cats. One aim of this study is to give an account of this problem. It is however difficult to draw general conclusions about these populations of cats since studies all over the world has been carried out on different types of populations, during different conditions and different periods of time. The welfare of many of these cats is presumably low because they are exposed to risks as disease, starvation, climate, traffic, other animals and humans.

En kvalitetsförbättrande metod som senaste åren blivit vanlig inom Hälso- och sjukvård är Lean Healthcare - en verksamhetsfilosof som går ut på att eliminera slöseri och skapa värde för patienterna. I takt med att informationssystem och informationsteknik (IT) har utvecklats har informationsförsörjning fått en allt viktigare roll i vårdprocessen. Tidigare undersökningar visar dock att vårdpersonalen upplever att det finns många brister kopplade till informationssystem och IT. En explorativ fallstudie genomfördes där kvalitativ data samlades in med hjälp av intervjuer, dokumentstudier samt observation. Syftet var att beskriva hur informationsförsörjningen påverkats i ett kliniskt mikrosystem och i en vårdprocess som infört Lean.

Sweden's aging population makes the need for a viable health care urgent and telemedicine can be a solution to enable older people to receive or give themselves care in their homes. Furthermore, implementation of telemedicine has the potential to realise profits in society by increasing the accessibility of health care and minimizing travel costs. Sweden?s low population density and geographical configuration makes the advantages of telemedicine even more appealing. To illustrate the differences between the county councils? use of telemedicine and thus increasing the possibility for coordinated care between them, the authors have on behalf of the Innovation Centre at the Karolinska University hospital mapped the amount of telemedicine technologies that are available in the Swedish county councils? today. To collect information an electronic survey and video or telephone interviews were used.

Staphylococcus aureus is the most clinically important Staphylococcus species and is associated with high mortality in patients with positive blood cultures. S. aureus bacteria may cause a variety of disease manifestations ranging from minor skin infections to life-threatening conditions such as pneumonia, meningitis, osteomyelitis, endocarditis, toxic shock syndrome (TSS) and sepsis. This microorganism belonging to the gram positive cocci may also be part of the normal flora. In Sweden, penicillinase-stable penicillins are the primary alternatives to treat S.

Skärpt hygien och ökadkunskap om de vanligaste infektionssjukdomarna och deras smittvägar har visat sig minskasjukfrånvaron och öka följsamheten till hygienrutinerna i förskolan. Syfte: Syftet med dennalitteraturstudie var att undersöka om sjuksköterskans kompetens kan öka medvetenheten kringhygienrutiner och smitta och smittspridning hos förskolepersonalen och därmed minskabarnens infektionssjukdomar i förskolan. Metod: Artikelsökningen genomfördes viadatabaserna CINAHL, PubMed, PsycInfo och manuell sökning på författarnamn. Resultatenbaseras på 18 vetenskapliga artiklar.

Wounds on horses are common and sometimes difficult to treat. The wounds are often big and could be discovered too late for primary sutures, which have to be applied within 8 hours from time of accident, before bacteria has been able to infiltrate the surrounding tissue. The healing is often complicated by delayed healing and wound infection with consequences like phlegmone, fistulation and proud flesh formation.To avoid these consequences, the traditional practice has been to administer systemic antibiotics alone, systemic antibiotics in combination with topical antibiotics or topical antibiotics alone. Because few antibiotics can be used in horses, is it important to household with the few substances that are available. In veterinary medicine today, the increasing resistance amongst pathogenic microbes such as MRSA presents a growing problem.

Det finns en del forskning om hur v?rdnadshavare och familjen p?verkas av att deras barn lider av psykisk oh?lsa samt hur de upplevt kontakten med h?lso- och sjukv?rden, dock hittades ingen i ett svenskt sammanhang. Syftet med denna uppsats ?r att bidra med ?kade kunskaper om p? vilket s?tt barns psykiska oh?lsa p?verkar v?rdnadshavarna och hur barnens h?lso- och sjukv?rd p?verkat familjen utifr?n v?rdnadshavarnas perspektiv.

Infection with Parascaris equorum is common among young horses in Sweden as well as in the rest of the world. The parasite has a direct lifecycle and reproduces in the small intestine. The eggs are passed out with faeces and become infective after approximately two weeks. The horses get infected when they ingest eggs that are dispersed in the environment. The symptoms seen in horses usually include retarded growth and loss of weight.

Barn påverkas av föräldrars psykiska sjukdom i form av oro, rädsla och skuld samt har en förhöjd risk att själva drabbas av psykisk sjukdom. En utmaning för den psykiatriska vården är det ökande antalet av vuxna med psykiatrisk sjukdom som även är föräldrar till minderåriga barn. Sjuksköterskor inom psykiatrin har en viktig roll när det gäller att uppmärksamma dessa barn samt se till att de får adekvat hjälp och stöd. Syftet med studien var att beskriva hur barn till föräldrar med psykisk sjukdom upplever det stöd de får ifrån den psykiatriska vården samt beskriva vårdpersonals upplevelser av stöd till dessa barn. Metoden som användes var kvalitativa forskningsintervjuer som genomfördes med sex barn som har föräldrar med psykisk sjukdom och fjorton vårdpersonal som arbetar inom den psykiatriska vården.

Today the individual ventilated cage system (IVC-system) is the most commonly used system when housing rodents. IVC systems are designed to control both supply and exhausted air at cage level, as well as temperature and relative humidity in the cages. This creates an optimal environment for the mouse and at the same time a protection against the risk of cross-infection between cages and the outside environment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the health and welfare for two different strains of laboratory mice (NMRI nude mice and C57BL/6NCrl mice) in three different kinds of IVC-systems; Arrowmight, Allentown and Tecniplast. 108 mouse pups from each strain (in total 216 mice) were selected after weaning at an age of three weeks and tested during 5 weeks.
