Alternative splicing is a process that partly rejects the common definition of a gene ? that one gene codes for one specific protein. By variable combination of coding regions (exons) and exclusion of non-coding regions (introns), formation of several different mRNA-transcripts, and consequently several different proteins, can derive from the same gene. Alternative splicing is an important condition for the development of complex life forms, but it is also a highly sensitive process and inaccurate splicing is the cause of approximately 15 % of mutations that cause genetic diseases. This article presents four genes, BRCA1, BRCA2, ER? and ER?, and inaccurate splicing of these genes increases the risk of developing cancer, particularly breast cancer and ovarian cancer.

Ämnet för den här uppsatsen var i första hand mentorskap och jag ville ur ett socialpsykologiskt perspektiv studera det samspel som sker mellan mentor och adept. För att förstå hur denna relation kan uppfattas som utvecklande för både mentor och adept har jag i andra hand också tittat på de näraliggande begreppen coachning, fadderskap och handledning. Avsikten var dels att genom att synliggöra skillnader och likheter bidra till en förståelse för hur de olika relationerna kan fungera som utvecklande relationer i arbetslivet och dels utröna vilken typ av kompetens adepter och mentorer menar att man utvecklar. En annan avsikt med arbetet var att bidra till att man använder de olika begreppen på ett mer konsekvent sätt.Anledningen till mitt val av problemområde hänger samman med att jag uppfattar att mentorskap är ett begrepp som används i flera sammanhang och med olika innebörd. Ofta talar man om mentorskapsprogram där syftet med programmen bl.a.

Musik är något som påverkar alla på ett eller annat sätt och har använts i terapeutiskt syfte sedan 1500 f. Kr. Även om den har en lång historia är den ändå inte allmänt vedertagen som en omvårdnadsåtgärd. Nästan varje dag möter sjuksköterskor patienter som i varierande grad upplever oro. Tidigare forskning visar att musik har inverkan på oro, men det är inte mycket beskrivet om sjuksköterskors erfarenhet av att använda musik som en komplementär omvårdnadsåtgärd vid oro och hur musiken påverkar sjuksköterskors arbetsmiljö.

Problem Faith in the power of advertising has varied largely through the ages, and since we know that advertising is paid for, it therefore has less weight than the usual news. Publicity through promotional activities is in turn difficult to control. The question which of these two ways to communicate with the market that is the most effective, is equally entitled to ask, as difficult to answer. Purpose/Aim This paper is designed as a pilot study with two different objectives that go hand in hand. The first overall aim is to investigate how advertising and PR / publicity can be measured with the same tools while designing this metric.

The purpose of this study was to look at the experiences of midwives in maternalhealth care encounters with non-european-born women and men, and to determine ifmidwives deem any special competence necessary to handle these encounters well.We gathered information by means of qualitative interviews and semi structuredquestions with eight midwives all of whom matched the inclusion criterias and gavetheir personal consent. Midwives from four district health care centers in Uppsalawere included. The interviews were transcribed and analyzed by means of qualitativecontent analysis.The results reveal the experiences from encounters with non-european patients to betwofold. On one hand the encounter is a positive, exiting experience with anopportunity to learn more about a foreign culture and exchange experiences. On theother hand complications can occur as patients may have unexpected expectationsregarding the health care, have great difficulties with the language or haveexperienced traumatizing incidents, all on top of coming to Sweden alone withoutrelatives.In the encounter with non-european-born patients the midwives consider it importantto have special competence in form of knowledge of other cultures and religions asthis provides a greater understanding of the reasoning behind the patients? decisions.Cultural competence is also important as it helps avoid inadvertently insulting thepatient during the encounter.The special competence held by the midwives has been attained from their basic andspecialist education as well as from self acquired experiences and interests.

Denna uppsats behandlar några frågeställningar i samband med bristtäckningsansvar. In today?s technological society, there are increasingly less physical demands on the locomotor system. However, despite that notion strength and function in the hand?s complex biomechanical system are in fact both needed to cope with daily life. The grip function is a main function in the hand and is used in many examples of scientific research, for instance when assessing physical health and predicting the probabilities of premature mortality.

Syftet med denna studie är att synliggöra vilka uppfattningar elever i skolår 9 har av bedömning i matematikämnet.En förändring har skett i synen på bedömning. Eleverna ska bli bedömda formativt under processens gång och inte bara summativt med fokus på produkten. Summativa prov är vanligast vid bedömning i matematik och därför var det intressant att undersöka hur eleverna ser på bedömning i ämnet. Undersökningen genomfördes i två skolor, där sju elever intervjuades och 99 elever deltog i en enkätundersökning. Huvudundersökningen var intervjuerna med fokus på deras uppfattningar och studien har därför genomförts med en fenomenografiskt inspirerad ansats.

The aim of this paper is to study whether the way directioners (One Direction fans) on Twitter express self-understandings denote fandom as a sacred experience. For this purpose, the data was analyzed in relation to Nicholas Jay Demerath III typology of the varieties of the sacred experience. The method used was discursive psychology. The data was analyzed by how the fans draw the line between ?us? and ?them?, when expressing their self-understandings and their position in relation to others. Five themes were identified: (1) positioning and demarcation for membership, (2) group identity, (3) conflict, (4) the norms for behavior, opinions and language and (5) the group?s role and function.

Foot rot is a severe claw disease which occurs among sheep and goats in most parts of the world, with outbreaks in hot and humid weather. It is a contagious bacterial infection caused by Dichelobacter nodosus in association with Fusobacterium necrophorum. Foot rot has a negative impact on both animal welfare and economy.This thesis presents how Australia, Nepal, Norway, Switzerland, Great Britain, Sweden and Uruguay handle foot rot. In the selection of countries the focus was on countries that have control- or eradication programs against foot rot. There are differences in the climate, animal husbandry practices, animal welfare and economic resources in the countries that are presented.

In this thesis I investigate what librarians working with children do for six-year-olds at the libraries in order to stimulate them to read. I also investigate how children of this age read and what books are like for these beginners. The background for the thesis is that reading decreased a lot in ages three to eight during the 1980s and 1990s. My aim is to see what projects, methods and other strategies there are to get children to read. The method used is case study.

Vad kommer det sig att så många väljer att visa upp sitt lidande i ett offentligtforum? Med hjälp av grundad teori undersöker vi de mest centrala aspekterna av och omkringkrisbloggande för att skapa en större förståelse för detta nutida fenomen. Genom intervjueroch studier av bloggar framkommer det att personer som bloggar får möjlighet att på egnavillkor göra sin röst hörd, sprida sin berättelse och reflektera över sin egen resa.

The field rehabilitation in veterinary medicine has expanded over the past ten years. Animalswith disorders in the musculoskeletal system are often treated. The methods used lacksufficient scientific documentation; however claim to affect the animal's function in a positiveway. In order to investigate the efficacy of different rehabilitation modalities, it is important touse validated evaluation tolls. Therefore, a literature study on pain, pain-scales and functionaltest was performed together a pilot study on a functional test.The aim of the present pilot-study was to investigate a functional test, "Bioarth functionalevaluation scale", used in veterinary medicine.

Studiet undersöker kompetensutvecklings möjligheter för bemanningskonsulter. Intresset är stort i att ta reda på vilka kompetensutvecklingsmöjligheter finns och om bemanningskonsulter har tillgång till dem möjligheterna. Intresset finns även i hur bemanningskonsulterna själva uppleva deras utvecklingsmöjligheter och anställningsbarhet, jämfört med kundföretagens egna anställda. Undersökningen gjordes genom att intervjua några av bemanningskonsulter som är på en långtids uppdrag hos ett kundföretag inom bilindustrin, samt några av kundföretagets egna anställda som fick sin anställning på kundföretaget efter att har varit konsulter på uppdrag hos det kundföretaget. En jämförelse gjordes sedan mellan bemanningskonsulter och företagets egna anställda för att undersöker hur de upplever sina respektive kompetensutveckling.

The main purpose of this paper is to describe and analyse how social worker on a specific Social Service Agency describe their experiences. My focus has been to concentrate on social worker, whose task is related to young people. The paper is presented from three different themes; work assignments, professional roles and projects in life. The central questions are; Which are the socialworker´s main tasks? How does the social worker see himself in his professional role? Have their expectations been fulfilled? Where do they get their motivation from? Which are the reasons why the job as social worker is so strenuous? I have interviewed four social workers (semi-structured interviews), and a qualitative method is used.
