The subject of the essay is about a society called Klippan and the existing conflicts there between an active racist group and some youths with foreign heritage. The essay also concerns issues like racism, its effects and how it is expressed at different levels in a society. Futhermore we discuss how a community can prevent 'subtle' racism and open declared racism and how to work in a racist manner. We also talk about which role the immigrant youths play in the conflicts and how their behaviour can be understood. Another perspective that is discussed is which aspects can affect individuals to join an active racist group and which factors can make them leave such a group.

The main domain in which eating disorders are defined is medical, whereas socio-cultural perspectives are less common. Because social workers seeks to explain different problems taking societal factors into account, we asked ourselves if social workers have a way of understanding eating disorders, that is different from a medical point of view. Two focus group interviews were conducted; the one composed by social workers with experience of working with eating disorders, and the other by social workers without that experience, which enabled comparisons. The interviews were analyzed using socio-cultural and feminist perspectives. The result showed that the social workers use socio-cultural perspectives in explaining eating disorders.

Begreppen coaching och empowerment har blivit mycket populära. Coaching är att hjälpa människor att lyckas. Empowerment översätts på svenska med egenmakt och maktmobilisering. Syfte med denna studie är att undersöka hur coaching kan hjälpa till att främja empowerment och därmed bidra till att öka människornas hälsa. Frågeställningar är: Vilka samband finns det mellan coaching och empowerment? Hur påverkar empowerment människornas hälsa? Kan man öka individens hälsa med coaching? Uppsatsen grundas på en litteraturstudie.

The study seeks to from professionals perspectives describe and analyze the beliefs they have about women with intellectual disabilities and their pregnancy and motherhood. We will also discuss and reflect on the possible support that professionals find important for women to handle pregnancy and motherhood. The information has been gathered through interviews with five different professions that have come in contact with the audience in their work. In our material we found three distinctive perspectives: a child´s perspective, a parent´s perspective and a community perspective. From these perspectives, we could find many similarities in the informants´ perceptions, which resulted in different themes.

Rapportens syftet är att, genom observationer och kompletterande intervjuer, studera begreppet Empowerment för att se hur dess utveckling i praktiken kan urskiljas och hur det kan engagera enskilda individer i en organisation. Det empiriska materialet består endast av primär datainsamling som sedan legat till grund för valet av den teoretiska inslamlingen. The aim of this study was to examine the existing discourse of assault in Aftonbladet from the years 2012 and 2013. We have studied news articles and analysed them by using discourse analysis as theory and method.The study shows that the portrayal of perpetrators and victims in assault cases tend to differ depending on gender. The women is portrayed as weak and part of a homogeneous group while the man is portrayed as dominant and offered a more individual role. The study also shows that the normative group is separated from the deviate groups in society. The analyze show that media, through this representation, maintains the normative power in society.

Syftet med denna undersökning är att mot bakgrund av en analys av befintlig forskning kring empowerment föra en kritisk diskussion med fokus på makt och människosyn. Litteraturstudie är vår valda metod, och utgångspunkten är en kritisk analys i granskningen av litteraturen. Vi har rekonstruerat tidigare forskning för att undersöka vilken syn som finns på empowerment som framförs i litteraturen. I litteraturgenomgången framkom att makt är en grundläggande beståndsdel i empowerment. Detta medförde att vi valde att hädanefter studera empowerment ur ett maktperspektiv.

The purpose of this media scientific study is to contribute to a better understanding about how blind people?s empowerment and participation may affect their role in the digital society.Earlier international studies in this area have shown that blind people not only need more knowledge then the seeing population about the computer, but also about the technology behind their tools for using Internet. The results from these studies have also shown that Internet increases the blind people?s independents and that those who use Internet feel more involved in the society.A qualitative method was chosen to study the three most common categories from the earlier studies: knowledge of technology, empowerment and participation. Are there differences in the results compared to our study in Sweden 2014?Interviews with eight blind, experienced computer users have shown that knowledge of technology is essential for their use of Internet and that the Internet increases their empowerment and their participation.

This thesis applies a discourse theoretical approach in order to examine in whatways and with what possible meanings the library at KVINFO participates in the overall gender discourse in society. This means that our reading takes place at a metatheoretical level, focussing on the library as a constructor of meaning in relation to society's gender discourse.Besides the actual reading, the thesis argues for the fruitfulness of using both a discourse theoretical and a feministic perspective in the field of Library and Information Science. By looking at libraries in general through a lens provided by these perspectives, libraries are staged as battlegrounds for competing discourses,that attempt to promote its particular knowledge claim on how reality should be perceived.The reading shows that it is possible to perceive the library at KVINFO as amaterial articulation that takes shape by and is part in a feministic counterdiscourse against the masculinistic hegemonic discourse, which throughout ?hisstory? has positioned women as ?the other?, and established men as the normative category in society, including the libraries. Through its practise KVINFO has contributed to a change in the collective identity ascribed to women.

This thesis examines the organization Empower and their members, who consist of sex working women in Thailand. The purpose is to explore the more liberal point of view of prostitution and how the female members perceive Empower. Furthermore the study investigates if the organization can improve the sex workers empowerment. The study also delineates how these women reflect on their professional role as a sex working woman and whether the women relate to feminine discourses. The study is implemented in Chiang Mai, Thailand during the fall of the year 2010 and is based on qualitative methods like interview, focus group, observations and text analysis.

This Master?s thesis is one of two parts of a combined project called Sustainable development around the Lake Victoria, the purpose of which is to investigate the importance of local anchoring and active participation in the work towards sustainable development. The present study aims to investigate whether men and women are empowered by the participatory rural appraisal (PRA) process promoted in their villages by the VI Agroforestry Project Masaka/Rakai. The study is primarily based on interviews with farmers within the project area and brings up a local perspective on the concepts sustainable development, active participation and empowerment. The study shows that to improve the farmers? livelihood and to create a sustainable development in the community, the farmers have to be actively involved in, and in control of, the process.

I många år har det stått klart att på grund av ökning av antalet äldre kommer det blir svårt med framtida bemanning i hemtjänsten. Arbeten anses vara låg status och underbetalda. Om arbeten i hemtjänsten anses ge anställda upplevelser av empowerment är det möjligt att flera söker sig till dessa arbeten och att befintlig personal stannar kvar.Syftet med denna uppsats är att få ökad förståelse för hur personal i hemtjänst upplever empowerment i sitt arbete samt att studera på vilket sätt ledare inom hemtjänsten kan arbeta med att stödja upplevelser av empowerment hos sina anställda. Undersökningen är genomförd som en kvalitativ fallstudie i hemtjänsten i Reykjavík. Med semistrukturerade intervjuer har sex anställda och tre ledare intervjuats och materialet har analyserats med en tematisk analys.Det visar sig att de anställda i hemtjänsten i Reykjavík upplever delvis strukturell empowerment i sina arbeten samt pyskologisk empowerment genom alla fyra kognitionerna; mening, kompetens, självbestämmande och påverkan. Thee purpose of this study was to examine what helps in counseling against women victims of domestic violence, and how to identify empowerment in their experiences? It is a qualitative study using semi-structured interviews where the collected material is based on five interviews. The group we studied is victims of domestic violence who had taken part of counseling. The interviews were based on an interview guide that sought answers to women´s experience of counseling. The interviews were analyzed with the help of theories of support, domestic violence and empowerment.
