Uppsatsen diskuterar Platons och Derridas textkritik mot bakgrund av Paul Grices meningsteori. Vad innebär författarens död, hans frånvaro, för möjligheten att förstå text? Hur skall kontextens betydelse förstås i förhållande till Grices höga krav på intentionalitet och hur skall Platons rika textproduktion förklars mot bakgrund av Sokrates stränga kritik av det skrivna ordet? Uppsatsen mynnar ut i tanken att förståelsen av en text, signifikanstillskriften, naturligtvis kan peka i vilken riktning som helst, det Derrida kallar textens lösdriveri, men det behöver inte vara så, det är inte nödvändigt att det är så och om man accepterar Grice teori om mening, med dess höga grad av intentionalitet, kan det inte vara så. Syftet med den här studien är att undersöka hur metaforer och liknelser inverkar på ömsesidig förståelse i samtal. Som teoretisk utgångspunkt har jag använt Grices (1989) teori om konversationella implikaturer samt Lakoff & Johnsons (1980) teori om konceptuella metaforer, Stålhammars (1997) teori om förståelse av metaforer och Levinsons (1983) kritik av Grice för dennes påstående om metaforer som brott mot samarbetsprincipen vid konversation. Min analysmetod är samtalsanalys, Conversation Analysis. Materialet för uppsatsen består av transkriberade utdrag ur ett radioprogram som bjuder in lyssnare att ringa in och tala om ett förutbestämt ämne med programledaren och i det här fallet även en bisittare. Resultatet visar att det finns fall där metaforer går obemärkt förbi och inte skapar problem för den ömsesidiga förståelsen i samtalet, men det finns även exempel på att bruk av metaforer och liknelser försvårar förståelsen..

According to the widespread concept of deception, deception is to intentionally cause someone to acquire or continue to have a false belief.  This paper refutes this notion and argues for a definition of deception based on a view that deception is the misuse of communication with the purpose to achieve a further end; an end that, is believed, can?t be reached without the misuse of communication. It is shown that this new definition can handle cases that earlier definitions could not handle without leading to absurd pragmatic consequences.
