Conflict prevention is a term which has gained much influence during the last decades. To prevent conflicts from occuring have both humanitarian and economic incentives as the cost for war are much greater than the cost of acting preventive. To act in this matter has been regarded a priority for the United Nations during several years, and the European Union have also expressed a wish of playing a more active part. The essay compares the actions taken by the international organisations in Macedonia, a country which headed toward a violent conflict. The purpose of this study has been to investigate the virtual world that people are part of on online dating sites. To do this we have investigated two different research questions, which are the following: What functions do the online dating sites provide? Why and how are the online dating sites being used by their members? In order to gather information about these matters, we have used a qualitative method consisting of participating observation, scrutinizing and single person interviews. Our results indicate that people have different goals with their usage of online dating sites; some are looking for love, a long-term relationship while others are looking for sexual contact. There are many different online dating sites to choose from depending on the users? objective.

The purpose of our essay is to investigate and compare the general and operational risk management in the private and public sector. As an introduction to the subject we describe the differences and similarities between the two sectors. Our survey is based on the term risk, the definitions of risk management, its development and finally the process of risk management. Since our survey is focusing on operational risks we also describe the operational process and the specific operational risks.The method we used to investigate the subject is a quantitative method. A survey was sent to 100 companies in Sweden, of which 50 were private companies and 50 were public companies.

What causes people to move within and between certain places and not within and between others? How do physical outdoor environments affect the way people act and move? In my pursuit for answers to these questions I studied literature and initiated and took part in dialogues in the form of workshops, all of which has resulted into this thesis. My questions have initially arisen from reflections of my own environment and how it not only affects my mental condition, but also my actions. Drawing upon the hermeneutic term ?preconception? I trust that what we label ?truth? is constructed by our lived experience and the society we grow up in.

The aim of this thesis is to describe passage retrieval (PR), with basis in results from various empirical experiments, and to critically investigate different approaches in PR. The main questions to be answered in the thesis are: (1) What characterizes PR? (2) What approaches have been proposed? (3) How well do the approaches work in experimental information retrieval (IR)? PR is a research topic in information retrieval, which instead of retrieving the fulltext of documents, that can lead to information overload for the user, tries to retrieve the most relevant passages in the documents. This technique was investigated studying a number of central articles in the research field. PR can be divided into three different types of approaches based on the segmentation of the documents.

The purpose of this paper is to understand why education is a human right. I will look at works by the late Paulo Freire, a Brazilian educator. Paulo Freire worked for many years on developing a pedagogy to promote humanity. His goal was to demonstrate that a literate person will ultimately live a better life because she will be free from oppression and domination.I chose to study Paulo Freire as a tool in proving why education is a human right because throughout his work he demonstrated the need for people to be literate in order for them to be considered ?truly human?.

Körsimulatorer är idag en mycket viktig resurs för att utföra studier med fokus på förarbeteende. Så väl full kontroll överscenario och miljö som kostnad och säkerhet är aspekter som gör det fördelaktigt att utföra simulatorstudier gentemotstudier i den riktiga trafiken.Ett problem med körsimulatorer är att bilden projiceras på en tvådimensionell skärm, vilket begränsar förarens förmåga attuppskatta avstånd och hastighet. Det är allmänt känt att avstånd och hastighet underskattas i körsimulatorer.Målet med examensarbetet var att hitta metoder som kan ge förbättrad avståndsbedömning i körsimulatorer och underprojektet implementerades och testades rörelseparallax samt skuggor, med största fokus på det förstnämnda.I slutet av projektet genomfördes ett simulatorförsök för att utvärdera effekten av rörelseparallax. Tio försökspersoner fickgöra två körningar vardera i VTI:s Simulator III-anläggning, den ena med rörelseparallax aktiverat och den andra meddetsamma inaktiverat. Scenariot som utspelade sig under körningarna innehöll ett flertal omkörningssituationer samt etthastighetsuppfattningstest.Resultaten från simulatorförsöket visade att försökspersonerna tenderade att placera sig längre från mittlinjen närrörelseparallax var aktiverat i de situationer som sikten skymdes av framförvarande fordon..
