The subject this thesis will investigate concerns the matter of how political ideologies exist within public libraries with a focus on the democratic ideal. Public libraries are part of the political system and we want to show how political ideologies take their shape in public libraries and the possible consequences of this. With the help of three major political ideologies, liberalism, conservatism and socialism we investigate how the democratic ideals of these ideologies are expressed in documents that describes activities the libraries will and have performed. In order to identify these ideologies we use discourses in cultural policy as a bridge between the investigated documents and the political ideologies. As an analytical tool we have developed a model that describes the relation between text, discourse and ideology which we use in our analysis.

Families with limited financial resources risk social exclusion in today?s consumption-based society, where status and identity are tied to items like clothing, gifts and activities. Limited financial resources can therefore often lead to social isolation because consumption is central to social participation, something that can rarely be prioritized in poor families. In preschool, unclear policies on extra costs can negatively affect families. The purpose of the study was to investigate how socioeconomically vulnerable families experience and are affected by the preschool and its requirements, as well as how preschool teachers work to reduce the economic gap among families in the preschool context.

The purpose of this Master?s thesis is to describe how Swedish public libraries use Web 2.0-tools and their experiences of using the tools. Focus of the study lies in the contact between public libraries and their patrons on the Web 2.0-tools. For the purposes of the study, the use of weblogs and MySpace were chosen for examination. The methodology used for this study was qualitative interviews.

The purpose of this bachelor?s thesis is to evaluate how the marketing campaign ?LĂ„na dig rik? has been received by the residents of Kalmar. A series of questions are asked: was the campaign noticed by the residents of Kalmar? Through which marketing channels has it been noticed? Is the residents? opinion of the library in line with the marketing message? Is the campaign moving in the desired direction?The study was done through a questionnaire that was handed out to a number of people in Kalmar. The residents were asked to answer if they had noticed the campaign, where they had noticed it and what their opinion of the library was.

NÀr man skrev med papper och penna fick man lov att förbereda sig genom att skriva en fusklapp, idag kan man komma Ät internet med sin dator eller mobiltelefon direkt man mÀrker att en uppgift Àr för svÄr. Den nya tekniken har Àven inneburit att det blivit lÀttare att upptÀcka vissa typer av fusk. Den underlÀttar samtidigt pÄ mÄnga andra sÀtt som att det gÄr att se klockslag nÀr en elev lÀmnat in sin uppgift eller att uppgifter sparas i digital form vilket gör att de gÄr snabbt och enkelt att söka reda pÄ vid ett senare tillfÀlle.Metoden som anvÀnts var kvalitativa intervjuer med fem gymnasielÀrare pÄ en skola som ligger i framkant inom tekniken. Det som efterfrÄgats i intervjuerna var i huvudsak pÄ vilket sÀtt internet, mobiltelefoner, bÀrbara datorer och annan IT pÄverkat hur eleverna fuskar och hur lÀrarna hanterar detta.

In this Bachelor thesis, we examine how the work of the librarian has changed over the past three decades. The research questions focus on the changes in librariansÂŽ roles and working tasks regarding factors like technique, meetings between librarians and visitors and also how to give service to visitors.We have conducted interviews with librarians at university libraries as well as public libraries. In all, there were four interviews. We have also compared the two types of libraries.We have looked closely at these factors: the tasks of the librarians, the skills needed, how the library has been used as a democratic arena, and what kinds of meetings there are among librarians and users of the library. From these themes we have created interview questions, and our analysis is structured according to the themes.We have worked from a theory on different kinds of identities within the profession.

The purpose of this master thesis is to investigate whether exhibitions and silent pedagogy can be used to develop more inspiring environments in the public library. Silent pedagogy is a term from the field of museum education describing the silent communication with visitors that takes place in exhibitions through introduction and orientation, layout and installation, as well as signage. In the 1980s, articles in a Swedish library magazine discussed the pedagogical importance of library exhibits and how they make the patrons aware of the library?s resources. This led us to museum education and a desire to investigate whether its theories were transferrable to the library context.

The purpose of this master's thesis is to find out what support students of Swedish for Immigrants (sfi) think they get from the public library during their study of the Swedish language. One important aspect in this essay is to examine whether the library can meet the need of Swedish-speaking meeting places where the sfi-students can practise their new language. The method used in this study is qualitative interviews. Nine sfi-students, one sfiteacher and one librarian have been interviewed. A sociocultural perspective on learning has served as a theoretical starting point.

In this Masters thesis the image of the public library in the local press and in the eyes of the public is examined. The questions posed to examine this are: - What activities of the public library are described in the local press? - What activities does the public associate with the public library? - What functions and roles of the public library can be found in the articles and interviews and how are they expressed? - What opinions of the public library and hereto related activities can be found in the articles and interviews? This study is based on an analysis of 127 articles, published in BorÄs Tidning during a period of six months, and of interviews with 35 people from SjuhÀradsbygden. To analyse the articles and the interviews Marianne Andersson and Dorte Skot-HansenŽs model of roles for the library has been used. The model includes four roles for the library: the library as a cultural centre, a knowledge centre, an information centre and a social centre.

The aim of this bachelor?s thesis is to investigate how the activities of the public library are portrayed by the Swedish press. It poses the following questions: What kinds of public library activities are portrayed in the Swedish press? What image does this depiction purvey to the general public about the societal role of public libraries?A model of four library spaces developed by Skot-Hansen, Hvenegaard Rasmussen, and Jochumsen is used as the theoretical framework for this study. Qualitative content analysis is applied to 173 Swedish newspaper articles that describe public library activities.The analysis reveals that articles about many kinds of public library activities get published in the Swedish press, but that some activities occur more frequently than others.

Det Àr Àven tanken att ge ytterligare information om och hur dialoger och diskussioner finns med som en del av meningsskapandet i undervisningen samt om undervisningen Àr kopplat till ett vardagligt perspektiv. Det intressanta Àr ocksÄ hur lÀraren lÀgger upp sin naturvetenskapliga lektion utifrÄn lektionens syfte.Tidigare forskning har mest grundat sig pÄ grundskolans elever och undervisning och tanken Àr att bredda kunskapsomrÄdet och dÀrför riktar sig denna undersökning mot gymnasiets undervisning. Studien genomfördes utifrÄn ett sociokulturellt perspektiv pÄ lÀrande.En lektion i naturkunskap A pÄ gymnasiet filmades och analyserades efter kategorier framtagna av EXPLORA.Det kommunikativa förhÄllningssÀttet var mestadels av aktoritativ - interaktiv karaktÀr dÀr lÀraren för eleverna med hjÀlp av frÄgor och svar mot ett visst mÄl. FrÄgorna lÀraren stÀllde mestadels var av sluten karaktÀr det vill sÀga att lÀraren var ute efter ett specifikt svar.
