Faktaboken i praktiken : hur ett antal barn- och ungdomsbibliotekarier arbetar med faktaböcker i sin lässtimulerande verksamhet

The purpose of this thesis is to study how children's librarians in public libraries use non-Fiction books in their work to promote reading. My research questions are: What methods do children's librarians use för promoting non-Fiction books? Are there children who can gain more from non-Fiction books than other children do? Are there any differences in working with Fiction and non-Fiction books? To answer these questions I have interwieved five children's librarians about their methods, attitudes and thoughts on non-Fiction books. The result shows that all of the librarians use non-Fiction when it comes to promotion reading but not to the same extent. Some hardly use it at all, mainly because the schools that they are serving demands Fiction books when practicing reading skills. while others use it but in less extent than Fiction, as a way of separating the library reading from school work either because they want to keep the experience of reading in the library apart from school work or because they find it more efficient to do so.

Män som inte läser skönlitteratur: en kvalitativ intervjuundersökning

The purpose of this master?s thesis is to investigate the reading habits of six men who do not read Fiction. The reason for my interest is the fact that men statistically read less Fiction than women, and that there are few existing studies of this subject. The study investigates why these men do not read Fiction, their attitudes towards literature, their reading habits, their leisure-time interests and if they experience Fiction from other activities. Furthermore the study includes a discussion of whether or not there might be a connection between the men?s reading habits and their identity as men, as well as a discussion of all of the above in relation to their social background.

Ämnesindexering av spelfilm

The aim of this thesis is to examine possibilities concerning subject access to Fiction film, i.e. appropriate ways to describe Fiction film for subject retrieval. Problems regarding subject indexing in general, and subject indexing of Fiction film in particular, are identified, as well as the uniqueness of Fiction film and film genres. Four types of subject aspects are discussed: form and genre, fictitious characters, setting, and general topics. Several guidelines, form- and genre lists, and subject headings lists are examined and treated as potential indexing tools.

Science fiction-litteratur ? Hur gör folkbiblioteken i praktiken? En studie av fyra bibliotek.

This essay aims to examine how science Fiction literature is supported and made available for readers at four public libraries. Each library has its own opinion of what a public library?s role in society is, and that affects how literature acquisition and media exposure is done at that particular library. To explore this, the author uses a modified version of Elzinga and Andersson?s theory of traditionalism, pragmatism and emancipationism.

Det brutna kontraktet : Om den missförstådda genren dokumentärroman och vad som sker när kontraktet mellan författare och läsare upphävs

Abstract The topic of this essay is to show why I regard the non Fiction novel as a problematic genre and to compare two popular and famous swedish non Fiction novels; Legionärerna (1968) by Per Olov Enquist and Gömda (1995) by Maria Eriksson and Liza Marklund.I start with giving a short introduction to modern genre theory and to non Fiction novels as a genre. I also discuss different definitions of non Fiction novels by, for example, Rolf Yrlid and Lars-Olof Franzén. Then I discuss Enquist?s Legionärerna and the critics? reception of it. I am also doing the same with Eriksson?s and Marklund?s Gömda before I compare these two novels with each other. My conclusion is that Legionärerna and Gömda have a lot in common although there are some differences.

Facklitteratur för barn ? ett försök till analysmodell

This thesis is about how to criticize the large number of non-Fiction for children which is published nowadays. The purpose of this essay is to search by means of criteria from history of art, history of literature ? principally history of children's literature ? and pedagogy, for prevalent attitudes towards non-Fiction for children.

Gymnasiebibliotekarier och skönlitteratur En studie av gymnasiebibliotekariers uppfattningar om arbetet med förmedling av skönlitteratur på gymnasieskolan

The purpose of this Masters thesis is to investigate upper secondary school librarians conceptions of Fiction mediation. By using a phenomenographic method, the different conceptions of the specific phenomena, how the librarians conceptualise their work with mediation of Fiction, are made clear. The aim of the method is not to study what Fiction mediation is constituted of, but rather how upper secondary school librarians understand it. Qualitative interviews were held with eight upper secondary school librarians about their conceptions of their working tasks, the meaning of Fiction for youths, reading promotion, inspiration to purchase of Fiction, free voluntary reading and if the importance of Fiction has changed over time. The results showed that the upper secondary school librarians conceptualise their working tasks as both changeable and repeatable.
