Med tillstånd att vara rolig : En innehållsanalys av modern komedifilm

Film är ett av de medier som påverkar vår identitetskonstruktion och vår uppfattning om normer och verkligheten. En av de mest populära filmgenrerna är komedifilm. Det är därför intressant att studera konstruktionen av karaktärer i komedifilm för att se vilka normer som är rådande idag.Studiens syfte är att ur ett socialkonstruktionistiskt perspektiv undersöka olika karaktärer i modern komedifilm för att ta reda på hur genus är konstruerat, vilken humoristisk funktion olika karaktärer tilldelas samt vilka eventuella skillnader det finns i komedifilm med i huvudsak manliga skådespelare respektive kvinnliga skådespelare.Resultaten av analysen visade att komedifilm med i huvudsak manliga skådespelare bekräftar traditionella könsnormer samt sociala normer medan en komedifilm med i huvudsak kvinnliga skådespelare visar nya tendenser gällande maskulina och feminina karaktärer. Maskulina egenskaper visades dock vara de mest eftersträvansvärda. Studien fann även att den humoristiska funktionen hos karaktärerna ligger i stereotypisering, överdrifter samt brott mot sociala normer..

This study examines how gender is at work in four series of teaching material of Swedish in the years 7-9 of the Swedish primary school. Analyzing eight books in total, and also their respective teacher?s manuals, the study focuses on the following aspects in both texts and pictures within the books: heteronormativity, marginalization, stereotypes, equality, and also general gender related issues. Doing so, this study approaches the analyzed material with the eyes of a feminist critic. Moreover, this study applies both a qualitative and a quantitative analysis as its method of approach. Initially, the theoretical background and scientific method for this study is presented.

Kvinnligt+flicka/manligt+pojke=traditionella könsmönster : en semiotisk bildanalys av grundskolans tidigare års matematikböcker

This essay focuses on the pictures in mathematics books for elementary school. The purpose was to see if images in mathematics books for elementary school show traditional gender roles.The aim of the essay has been broken down into following research questions:Vilka färger förknippar de olika matematikböckerna till pojkar/män respektive flickor/kvinnor?How many times were girls/women and boys/men illustrated in the mathematics books?What behavior is associated with masculinity and Femininity?Which colours are associated with boys/men and girls/women in the mathematics books?I used a semiotic image analysis method to study the pictures presented in the mathematics books. The theories in this essay were used to see how society makes girls become girls and boys become boys and in what ways the genders are portrayed in relation to each other. In addition, the theories include the question of whether a specific colour is given to a specific gender? The analysis evidently confirmed that the images in the mathematics books demonstrated traditional gender roles.

Abstract/Sammanfattning Syftet med detta arbete är att med en narratologisk metod undersöka hur femininitet och maskulinitet representeras i relation till våld i serien Firefly och filmen Serenity. Detta görs med fokus på huvudkaraktärerna Malcolm ?Mal? Reynolds och River Tam. Som teoretisk grund används teorier om och kring representation, stereotyper, genussystemet, samt maskulinitet och våld. Våldet undersöks utifrån tre aspekter, hur karaktärerna utsätts för våld, hur de använder sig av våld och vilka motiven är i deras våldsutövande.

This master?s thesis investigates how six Swedish public libraries integrate equality aspects in their user oriented activity. The theoretical starting point for the study is that Sweden is a part of a gender system characterized by gender separation and male superiority, as described by the Swedish historian Yvonne Hirdman and theories that argue that Femininity and masculinity are social constructions. Another starting point is that the library sphere cannot be separated from the gender inequality in society. Since the library is part of a gender system that value individuals who are seen as males and separates men and women, some of the library users may be neglected.

This study is about underlying discourses of two tv-series for children from opposite parts of the globe. Focus lays on which morals and values adults choose to teach children through popular culture, even on an unaware basis and how does differ, or not, between different societies.The theoretical framework chosen for this study are semiotics in combination with the concept of the gaze by Laura Mulvey. Semiotics is the study of signs and their underlying meanings constructed by society. By studying popular culture with the tools provided by semiotic analysis it is possible to discouver underlying myths, social constructions of society, that are reproduced over and over again to remain alive. Mulveys theory of the gaze is helpfull in the process of decoding those constructions to discover the dominant partys and norms represented.In this particular study underlying structures such as patriarcal power relations, unequality between the representation of different ethnicities and the consistent presents of the male gaze where discovered.

En övervikt av kvinnor : En kvantitativ studie av bilder och skribenter på Aftonbladets viktsajt ur ett genusperspektiv

We have investigated the visual representation of men and women in Aftonbladet?s weight site. We have made a calculation of how many of the women and the men who were portrayed smiling/ not smiling, active/passive, looking into the camera/looking away from the camera and from which camera angle the picture is taken. We also kept statistic on the gender representation of the authors of the articles.Our investigation shows that Aftonbladet?s weight site has a distinct overrepresentation of women on their pictures, but also in terms of the authors of the articles.

This may provide a better understanding of the nurse in responding to these breast cancer patients.

The national curriculum states that the school actively should promote that women and men have equal rights and opportunities and that there is a responsibility to counteract traditional gender patterns. However do research observations show that teachers often treat girls and boys differently. Studies show that the teachers are influenced by their conceptions and their expectations of gender behavior. The aim of this study is to examine how teachers in preschool and primary school discuss gender awareness and how they state that they work with gender awareness according to the curriculum goals of counteracting the traditional gender patterns.The study is inspired by the phenomenographic research approach and the empirical material has been collected by qualitative interviews with eight teachers in preschool and primary school. The empirical material has together with earlier research and theories been analyzed and discussed in order to reach a conclusion.
