Vad orsakar höga ammoniumvärden i ensilage? :
High levels of ammonia in grass silage have been up for discussion by Swedish advisers. One
reason is that it is more difficult for the rumen-microbes to utilise high levels of ammonia. A
low level of ammonia is also good because if the cattle can use more of the protein in the
silage, they don?t need so much protein concentrate. That is very good for the economy at the
farm, and it is also good for the environmental problems caused by high levels of ammonia.
In this project, 24 samples of silage have been taken at 20 different Farms in the south west of
Sweden.
Restriktioner av växthusgasemissioner : hur påverkas lantbruksföretagens ekonomi och produktionsinriktning?
The agricultural sector accounts for about 13 percent of the total load of greenhouse gas emissions from Sweden (Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, 2007). The Swedish objective to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions with 40 percentage units to the year of 2020, based upon the year of 1990, might imply stricter regulations for Swedish farmers. A regulation or other forms of economic incentives is probably necessary to reduce the emissions originating from the agricultural sector.
This study aims to investigate the economic and managerial impact on two agricultural firms with differing production system given that a constraint on green house gas emissions is introduced. Gases included in this study are carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide.
Möjligheter att utfodra överskottsmjölk till kalvar efter pastörisering
Good feeding practices are a basic aspect of good calf health. During the calf's first few months the calf is fed with purchased milk replacer or raw milk straight from the cow. On all Farms, it will be a surplus of milk that may not be delivered to the dairy for various reasons. Milk that may not be supplied to the dairy includes colostrum and milk with unnormal properties, including milk from cows suffering from mastitis. This study investigated the possibility of improving the milk by pasteurization in order to secure its use as feed for calves and thereby obtain an improved calf health.
Nytt ventilationssystem till djurstallar :
There is two dairy Farms in Sweden with ability to be opened on both long sides, one outside
Hjo and the other one, Brandstadholm, north of Sjöbo. When there is no measures and results
or not enough literature about natural ventilation and especially on this kind of air inlet, makes
my tests very interesting not only on Alnarp, but among other companies.
I would like to find out if there is any air movements direct on the cows, how high/low
temperature, air humidity, light intensity and noise standard inside the barn. Does
Brandstadholm fulfil the rules and regulations when it comes to climate inside the barn? Could
this system become the new dairy barn instead of the conventional barns in Sweden?
I am going to focus on the animals environment, after all they are the one who is going to
spend the most of the time in the barn.
I used five electrical loggers distributed inside the barn to measure the temperature and one of
the loggers measured the air humidity, every 15th minute. One logger were placed on the
outside which measured both temperature and air humidity.
Svansbitning hos grisar, arv eller miljö?
Tail-biting in pigs is an animal welfare issue and in Sweden during 2002 the producers lost tree million Swedish crowns because of tail biting. This economic loss depends on the pigs which are discarded at slaughter because of tail biting. Tail biting can be separated into two stages, "pre-injury" and "injury". The aim of this study is to investigate if tail biting depends on environment or genetic background.A lot of research on the environments effects on the behaviour of pigs but not so much on the genetic effects has been performed. The frequency of tail biting in pig Farms influence among others of environment enrichment, ventilation, gender and breed of the pig.
Ergonomiska förhållanden för mjölkare i olika mjölkstallar :
Earlier studies of musculoskeletal problems with milkers working in milking parlour
operators have shown that it is a physically demanding occupation. The extremities that are
most exposed are neck, shoulders, hands and wrists. Those systems that have been studied in
present cases are fishbone and some tandem barns.
There have been changes in the working environment during the past ten years. The
mechanisation has been developed for the better with automatically removers of the milking
units and vertically adjustable floors in almost every daily milking barn. In other hand the
milk production are more industrialised and more related to stress today.
Occurence of mould and mycotoxins in Swedish maize silage - a pilot study
During the last ten years the cultivation of maize in Sweden has increased and is expected to grow further. Most of the maize in Sweden becomes silage which is used to feed animals at Farms. Maize has in other countries been shown to be a substrate for growth of mould and especially Aspergillus spp., Fusarium spp. and Pencillium spp. has been reported.
Släpslangspridning av gödsel, kan det löna sig? :
I have chosen to work with drag hose system and try to find an alternative to spread manure with a usually tank system, see if you can make a profit and what advantage and disadvantage the system has.
The purpose whith the project has been to try to make a system that can spread manure at better occasions than farmers do today and above everything make a financial addition. Today it is just a heavy work and takes a lot of time.
I have counted on investment costs and carefully examined what equipment you need. I have not the technical details in my project, I have just tried to understand how it is to spread manure with drag hose system today.
What is drag hose system?
You put a hose in your manuretank, connect it to a pump that is driven by a traktor or stationary engine. You place a hose that reach the field were you are going to spread.

Vattenjärnhaltens betydelse för mjölkkors hälsa och produktion :
Drinking water from drilled wells has a high content of iron and other minerals in many places in Sweden. Questions about the association between the quality of drinking water and the health of dairy cows are regulary asked both by advisers and dairy farmers. There are so far not many studies published about the relevance for high iron content in water and dairy cow health and production. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate if there is a connection between the iron content in water and the health of dairy cows. Initially a literature study was made about iron and it´s function in ruminants.
Uppgradering av biogas i systemperspektiv med avseende på miljöpåverkan och kostnader
Swedish biogas is currently produced mainly by anaerobic digestion of sewage sludgeat sewage treatment plants, landfills and anaerobic digestion of household or industrialwaste. Also cattle ma-nure from Farms can be used to produce biogas. Upgradingbiogas represents an increase in methane concentration from about 65 % to about 97%. In addition, particles and contaminants must be sepa-rated from the upgradedbiogas. There are various methods for upgrading and this report compares sixdifferent methods with respect to environment and economy: water scrubber,Biosling, cryo technology, chemical absorption, Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) andmembrane separation.According to the used ORWARE model, chemical adsorption with amine has the leastenvironmen-tal impact (methane emissions) and the lowest costs.
EU-stöd inom fårproduktion på Öland jämfört med Småland/fastlandet :
The Sheep is the oldest livestock, and has been in Sweden for 4-5000 years. Thanks to that you can obtain skin, as well wool and meat. Therefore it was an important animal. Sheep production has increased, strongly lately due to the pasture support.
The purpose of this paper is to find out what kind of different EU-subsidies you can get and to compare the subsidies in Öland and the main land.
Sheeps are very good conservationist with grass, bushes and herbs, because of different grazing lands hardness and growth is it important to control the pasturage strain. A good way to regulate this is to have different enclosed pasture to switch between.
I have been studying the different EU-subsidies.

Hur kan man få ned dödligheten hos kalvarna i dikobesättningarna?
This work is a literature review along with interviews from nine suckler herds. How to reducecalf mortality in the cow herd is the focus of this paper. To get profitability of a herd, it isimportant that you get a live calf per cow and year. Good fertility of the cows thus is veryimportant. During the years 2007 - 2008, approximately 5.5% of all calves born by beef cowsdied and about 8.5% of the calves born by heifers died.
