Studier av mjölkbarhet automatiskt mätt i mjölkningsanläggningar :
Milkability or ease of milking, has higher importance today for Swedish dairy cattle producers after the introduction of milking parlours and automatic milking systems. Milkability is the cow?s ability to quickly milk out and be completely milked. There are several measures of milkability available. Today the Farmer measures the traits subjectively in relation to the conformation scoring of the cow 30-270 days after her first calving.
The increase in farmland value in Swedens plain areas is a well known fact in today's Swedish agricultural. In connection with the fluctuating prices of crops and inputs, are increasing the risk exposure to agriculture. The increased value of agricultural land has in Sweden over the years been due to a high demand for land that has existed and exists in Sweden. The increasing demand is linked to a structural rationalization of Swedish agriculture, leading to fewer and larger farm units (www, privataaffärer, Carl Johan Jurss). The purpose of this study is to examine the potential risks associated with the farmland value falls or remains unchanged, according to a farm credit administrator's perspective. The idea is to get a picture of the main factors taken into account when lending and the problems with falling or stable land prices into account when lending.
Viktiga faktorer vid lantbrukares val av bank
The bank market for Farmers in Sweden is dominated by Swedbank and Landshypotek. One of the most aggressive challengers is Länsförsäkringar Bank, which in 2009 had seven per cent of the Swedish bank market for Farmers, but 57 per cent of all new lending. This paper deals with the problem of new banks to break into the bank market where Farmers are slow in terms of change in their attitudes and loyal to their banks. The study has been carried out in cooperation with Länsförsäkringar Gävleborg which is a new actor in the banking market and thus eager to take part in the outcome of the study. This essay thus seeks to examine the attitudes Farmers have against bank switching and the factors that influence their choice of bank.
The economic conditions for Swedish dairy Farmers are constantly changing. The numbers of
producers are declining and the economic conditions for dairy production are weakening
debilitating. To improve the economic situation for a farm a hired contractor is a possible solution since previous studies show that machinery cooperation may be beneficial for the Farmers.
The aim of this study is to examine the possibility for Farmers to cut costs by hiring a
contractor for harvesting silage. A comparison between using own machinery and hire a
contractor is the starting point of this study. Another aim is to discuss the Farmer?s decision process when achieving today?s situation and to determinate what factors affect their decisions.
The study is based on cases selected from four farms that today have chosen not to or only to some extent, hire a contractor for harvesting silage.
Strategies for social customer relationship management : the case of social media in the Swedish food industry
Consumption of meat and poultry has increased during the last ten years while the production in Sweden has decreased. Cheap imports are competing with Swedish products and consumers, restaurant and retail let the price decided what to purchase. Swedish food producers can become better at communicating the added values that meat and poultry produced in Sweden has. Social media gives companies a possible tool for communication in order to communicate and create a relationship with consumers. The rise of social media does not only affect consumer decisions making, but also corporate communication.
The objective of this project is to investigate how social media can connect the Farmer to the consumer.
Economic impact of fertilizers and improved seeds among smallholder farming systems in Central and Western Kenya
In Kenya, many families subsist on agriculture and of the country's around 40 million residents 70% work in the agricultural sector. 50 % of the country's gross domestic production (GDP) comes from farming, and thus the country is largely dependent on income from this sector. Kenya's population has tripled in recent decades, which have led to that food availability is a growing problem.
To ensure food security, it is important that the return from crops increases. The aim of this study is to evaluate what impact the use of fertilizers and improved seeds has for Farmer?s economic situation and income generation.
Over the past one hundred years, there has been an increasing globalization and
industrialization of the food systems. As a result, the distance between the production and the consumption of food has increased, both in time and space and in the minds of
people. There is also an increasing concern for the environmental effects of industrial
farming and the long distance transportation of food.
Sustainable agriculture and efforts to build more sustainable food systems has emerged in
opposition to the global food market. The definitions of sustainability usually include
environmental, social and economical aspects. To build more localized food systems is
seen as one way towards increased sustainability.
Tidsstudier i kalvuppfödning :
Swedish agriculture stands in front of big changes the whole time. As a milking producer you have to adapt and develop the company to these changes and find the best solution. This potential is easy to find if you compare your company with other similar companies. Labour cost is the biggest cost in milking production after the cost for food. Today it is rather easy to measure how many hours per cow different system of cow houses needs, but we do not know so much about how many hours it takes to breed a calf.
To learn more about the labour time with the calves during the first time after the calf was born, I made time studies on five different farms with calf hutches, automatic milk system, large calf boxes, and smaller calf boxes with teat buckets.

The use of artificial insemination in dairy farms in urban/peri-urban Kampala, Uganda : a study of knowledge, attitude and practices
Uganda is one country with fastest growing populations in the world and with more than 25% of the population living in poverty. There is a rapid rural urban migration with increasing demands for food for low income earners especially in these areas. One way to mitigate food insecurity is to increase milk and meat production efficiency, and thus reproductive performance of cows is crucial for good production. A well-documented strategy for improving dairy cow productivity through faster genetic improvement is to breed dairy cows using proven semen via artificial insemination (AI). AI has been used in Uganda for over 60 years but only less than 10 %, a small population of the country?s herd has been bred that way.
The aims were to study knowledge, attitude and practices factors influencing cow fertility results on dairy farms around Kampala using AI and to propose ways of promoting increased use of AI in Uganda.
Kan mjölkkors utnyttjande av vallprotein bli bättre? : utfodringsstrategier och konserveringsmetoder
The purpose with this literature study was to investigate the possibilities for improvement of forage protein in dairy cows with focus on feeding strategies and conservation of forage protein. The utilization of forage protein in dairy cows is often not that efficient as it could be. The feed crude protein consists of both true proteins and non protein nitrogen. The digestion of proteins in the rumen depends on the protein degradation rate and the ability of the microbes to synthesize microbial protein. The microbes need a balance between carbohydrates that provide them with energy and proteins that are degradable in the rumen.
The thesis aims to investigate the Farmer?s perception of currency hedging and interest
rate bonds and to investigate the farm size of companies categorized by number of acres,
has no effect on this. The work also aims to gain an insight into what active Farmers
consider to be important what to consider when they choosing a bank and a personal
banker.
The work is based on the survey and has been supplemented by a literature review on the
subject. For the survey were selected out randomly 50 Farmers with Agriculture and
Rural Management education.
The requirement of the Farmers was that they should be Farmers by profession, and also
made sure that the Farmers of various sizes came with. We got a total of 32 responses
within the set response time we said, which was better response than we expected.
When the final result came we ranged the farms in a size range.
We found out that all Farmers in the study diligently follow the market and are easy to
assimilate new ideas, providing opportunities to profitability of their business with the
different instruments that are available on both the financial level and farm level.
The investigation revealed that the major in favor of having a personal banker.
They think it´s good to have a special plug to turn to who has knowledge and experience
of how the agriculture sector operates.
Hantering av extensivt hållna nötkreatur i mindre besättningar
Extensive cattle management was reintroduced in Sweden during the 1950´s and 60´s. Usually this term refers to suckler cows for meat production that is kept outdoors all year around. Suckler cow farms tend to become fewer but bigger over time. Still however most of the farms with beef cows are small. Extensive animal husbandry can lead to animals becoming shy which leads to difficulties when they are handled due to veterinary treatments, marking, transport etc.
Effect of cow traffic system on cow performance and AMS capacity
Robotic milking in Automatic Milking systems (AMS) is proposed to reduce manual labour and at the same time increase milk yield by increasing milking frequency. In order to increase milking frequency, it is essential to have well-functioning cow traffic. Investing in an AMS is a great capital investment for the Farmer, thus it is of major importance to ensure maximal AMS capacity. This study investigated the effect of the traffic systems Feed First? and Free cow traffic with and without waiting area (WA) on cow performance and AMS capacity.
