Uppsatsen baseras på en kvalitativ studie med en induktiv ansats där syftet med min uppsats är att undersöka och beskriva hur män som drabbats av en traumatisk ryggmärgsskada upplever sina funktionstillstånd över tid efter skadan, avseende funktion och förmåga. Detta i anslutning till hur männen upplever att deras funktionstillstånd påverkat deras subjektiva upplevelse av att vara självständiga och aktiva. Men också männens upplevelser av möjligheter till förändring samt upplevelsen av egenmakt i deras livsvärld. Uppsatsen som utgår från individnivå fokuserar på männens subjektiva upplevelser över tid, från tiden strax efter skadan samt deras upplevelser idag. Studien består av tre preciserade frågeställningar: - Hur upplever männen sitt funktionstillstånd avseende funktion och förmåga tiden strax efter skadan samt idag?- I vilken omfattning har männens upplevelser av att vara självständiga och aktiva förändrats över tid från tiden strax efter skadan samt idag?- I vilken omfattning har männens upplevelser av möjligheter till förändring och upplevelsen av egenmakt förändrats över tid från tiden strax efter skadan samt idag?Materialinsamlingen har gjorts genom en kvalitativ forskningsintervju och analysen har gjorts utifrån två perspektiv; Empowerment perspektivet och Crip teori.
