AbstractAuthors: Mikaela Magnusson & Malin StenströmTitle: Jolly women and ugly men - a study of the way men and women are portrayed in the magazines Filter and FokusLevel: BA Thesis in JournalismLocation: Linnaeus UniversityLanguage: SwedishNumber of pages: 78 Everyday we're exposed to gender roles. It can take the form of our immediate family, our classmates, the books we read, the teve series we watch or the magazines we read. Everyday the world around us shape the way we think of men and women and how they're supposed to be. As a part of either (or neither) of those genders we are all shaped into the mold that society has set for us. The media is one of the largest contributors to this socialization and therefore we felt it necessary to study two, critically acclaimed, media outlets and shed some light on their portrayals of gender. We chose to study Filter and Fokus, two social magazines with close to a corresponding amount male as female readers and a reputation of being modern and free of prejudice.
This is a master thesis on how to develop the central area of Norra Fäladen, a suburban housing area in the town of Lund, Sweden. The area is discussed on the basis of literature studies, analysis, and place descriptions, which leads on to a proposal. The starting point for the proposal is to create a more lively local centre and to make the area pleasanter for the visitor. A large part of the thesis is devoted to giving a background about local centres and to describe and analyse the area.
Fäladstorget has an important role as a central place for supply and services and as a local meeting place for the inhabitants of Norra Fäladen.
Every place is a stage where people interact. The nature of the stage and its scenography to some extent shapes the interaction.
Considered as a place, the school ground gives rise to many varying expectations. Lower school pupils often have clear ideas of how they are expected to behave and how they are expected to use the place. But as the pupils age, the purpose of the school ground grows less obvious.
Inbreeding, the mating of related individuals, has been the one dominating breeding strategy for dog breeders during the last 200 years. However, its negative effects on fer-tility and other fitness traits, a phenomenon called inbreeding depression, have been ignored in the quest of perfect unity in conformation or performance. The purpose of this study was to test the hypotheses that litter size is reduced as a consequence of in-breeding, affected by both the inbreeding coefficient of the dam and the litter and that a rapid increase in the inbreeding coefficient affects litter size more than a slower rate.
Data were collected from the Swedish Kennel Club registry of origin. Breeds included in the study were the Bernese Mountain Dog, the Cocker Spaniel, the Golden Retriever, the Rottweiler and the West Highland White Terrier.
The Sound of Skepticism Analyzing Climate Change Denial in Swedish Podcasts and YouTube Channels
This study explores Sweden's climate change denial by analyzing the spoken-word discourse of
its countermovement, focusing on digital media content from Swedish parliament member Elsa
Widding with an aim to provide empirical insights into the discourse of Sweden's Climate
Change Countermovement (CCCM). Questions guiding this study are: What are the most
prevalent topics and themes related to climate change denial and skepticism? How do they align
with established categories of climate change denial, shaping the overall narrative? What
mobilizing ideas and meanings are present, how are they shaped, and how do they contribute to
the movement's goals? The material consists of Elsa Widding's complete audio-based
"movement texts'' from 2019-2023, including YouTube content, podcasts, and appearances on
Riks, totaling over 2000 minutes of audio transcribed into text via AI technology.
Methodologically, this study adopts a mixed-method approach which blends computational
pattern detection, topic modeling, clustering, and spatial relationship mapping techniques, along
with qualitative content and framing analysis. Theoretically, the study employs a perspective
which uses epistemic and response skepticism to examine climate change denial, viewing it
through the lens of countermovements and social movement framing. The study's main
contribution lies in the enablement of comprehensive analysis of a large audio-based dataset,
achieved by leveraging recent AI advancements for reliable audio-to-text conversion combined
with topic modeling.
Shareadox : -The paradox of service quality assurance in Sharing Economy businesses
The purpose of the Sharing Economy is to exploit unused resources between people, as an alternative to buying new and owning themselves (Gansky, 2010). Gansky (2010) argues that a major reason why the Sharing Economy has grown in recent times is, besides from the recession and people?s increased environmental awareness, the urbanization which has made people move closer to each other and in to the big cities. This in addition to an increased use of GPS technology in smartphones enables people to be constantly connected to an ever-changing network. People now share and exchange services and products from each other.
ABSTRACTToday's modern technological society is constantly evolving and house planning is one area that is constantly creating new technical solutions. By looking back at selected architectural eras during the 1900?s, the idea is to study and analyse three building structures in Gothenburg with a focus on quality and content in the urban space. In order to provide a background for the three selected areas, their history has been studied. The main question for the research is: how do different building structures affect the content and qualities in the urban space? The areas have been selected to represent three typical epochs in Swedish building history.
Water is a vital element and also enriches the experience of landscapes. It is naturally in constant movement and change but also exposed to the hands of man. In this paper two stretches of water is described through landscape and time in correlation between development and the experience of the watercourse Höje-å in the rural parts of southern Sweden. The intention is to investigate how Höje-å has changed over time and also how it is experienced in the surrounding landscape. With the help of literary studies the history of Höje-å have been described and through the course of field-studies the experience of two different areas along the watercourse. The biggest changes of Höje-å and its surrounding area have taken part during the last two centuries.
Invandrares nätverk och sociala kapital
Abstract The increased focus on social capital theory has made its way into labour economics. This has led to the creation of a vast literature about the use of networks and informal search methods in the labour-market, a literature that to some extent also deals with immigrants search behaviour and their relatively high unemployment rate. Characteristic for the literature in the area is the lack of analysis of actual networks. Which types of contacts do these networks contain; how are the networks used in the labour-market; and which type of network generates a high amount of social capital. These questions are important for the general understanding of how social capital functions, within the labour-market, but also for the understanding of how immigrants use their networks in order to find themselves jobs.
Johannishusparken : historia, nutid, framtid
Summary
The estate of Johannishus is situated in the south of Sweden and in the province of Blekinge, about 8 kilometres from the city of Ronneby. The main building together with the park represents the province´s only example of a well preserved estate environment from the early 1800th Century, and was declared as a historic monument in 1982 because of its unique role in the province. Johannishus Park has during 300 years developed in close relation to the main building, the landscape and the surrounding infrastructure. Each century and owner has had an influence on the park, which has resulted in an interesting visible cross-section of 300 years of Swedish garden history. Most noticeable today are the traces from late 19th Century, but in its oldest parts the park contains structures from the early 18th Century.
The way we design our cities today will affect the living conditions for future generations. Planning as a discipline can become crucial to attain a sustainable urban development with an increased quality of life among the urban population and an improved environment.

Open pit mining creates huge amounts of tailings and waste rock deposits. Due to it's content of sulphide minerals, predominantly pyrite (FeS2), there is a risk of oxidation and formation of acid water containing heavy metals, known as Acid Rock Drainage (ARD). To prevent the process of oxidation, the tailings and waste rock have to be reclaimed. The most commonly used methods of reclamation are a coverage of water or soil.
Mining also results in a large-scale interference in the landscape that will make an eternal change of its appearance.
Mind the gap : the possibilities of the public space in the contemporary city
Mind the gap encourages you to beware of the interspaces. The project seeks to
defend the gaps that occur in time and space and encourages the reader to care
about the interruptions of the routine-like and planned, whilst also opening up a
discussion about interaction and participation. Mind the gap is a project about the many
opportunities the public space has in the contemporary city. What you have in front of
you is the result of this project.
As society constantly changes, new and different needs arise in the city and it is
necessary that architects and planners understand and adapt to these changes.
They have to be able to develop new ways of thinking and to challenge established
perceptions of what the public space is and should be. This means being able to see
that the public space could be different and to recognize the potentials for it to change.
This project examines the underlying ideals of urbanism and investigates
the potentials of the City when shaped by these ideals.
A boom in horticulture characterized the 18th century in Sweden and Skåne. Parks and gardens were gradually built out to become, at the end of the 18th century, large and comfortable facilities which responded to European parks. During the late 1700s the new fashion came to Sweden. In Sweden it was named ?the English style? which directly refers to the English expression ?Romantic style?.
