The purpose of this study is to show how some Swedish teachers in the grades four to six assess the subject of English and what impact the national tests have on teachers? way of looking at assessments and grades and how teachers are supposed to work with assessment and grading according to the curriculum and the education act. The method of this study has been interviews with principals, teachers and pupils to get as many perspectives of the subject as possible. It has contributed to an interesting content and the end result will be as fundamental as it can be. The findings of this study show that teachers teaching English in Sweden have a great responsibility because of the lack of subject priority and communication between themselves, the government and other authorities in the world of education.

The purpose with this essay is to compare two classes in an international school during their mathematic lesson. The international school offers education to their pupils in two languages; in Swedish and in English. Through this study I want to find out how teachers are working with language and communication during school hours. I will compare the work of two teachers and two classes to find out the differences and similarities between their work methods concerning language and communication during mathematic lessons.The main questions for the essay:How do the teachers work with language and communication in this school during the mathematic lessons?What similarities and differences are there between the two teachers in matter of methods of working with language and communication during the mathematic lessons?The research is based on interviews with the teachers and also on observations in the classroom during mathematic lessons.

In this paper two translators of Natsume Soseki's "Botchan" by Matt Treyvaud (2009) and Joel R. Cohn (2005) are compared with each other and with the original. Yoko Hasegawa's "The Routledge Course in Japanese Translation" (2012), Peter Newmark's "A Textbook of Translation" (1988) and "Approaches to Translation (1981) are used as the methodological foundation. Kyoko Omori's paper "Problems in English translations of Japanese literature: A study of Natsume Omori's "Botchan" and "Kokoro" (1996)" was used when choosing which old-fashioned language that lies the closest to that of the original, but fails to convey much of the humour; while Treyvaud's translation conveys the humorous tones of the original but has made frequent mistakes not agreed upon as the correct way of translating into English..

This thesis is comprised of an annotated translation of an English IT-text into Swedish. The source text is the installation manual for the software SDL Trados Studio 2014 and the thesis also contains a text analysis of the source text. The goal of the translation has been to use norms in the target culture and thus move the translation toward acceptability. The thesis therefore discusses norms based on Toury's (1995) framework.The thesis also contains an empirical study of the translation of three different IT-texts. The study shows that, when it comes to the specific norms investigated in the study, Swedish translations of IT-texts are guided by norms in both the source culture and the target culture..

Det här arbetet har främst koncentrerat sig på att utveckla kunskapen om vad det vidgade textbegreppet innebär samt att undersöka begreppets innebörd i kursplaner och läromedel för Engelska A. Därtill har det syftat till att belysa hur det vidgade textbegreppet förhåller sig till en kommunikativ språksyn. För att komma ifrån de problem som begreppet ?ett vidgat textbegrepp? skapar har här använts ett nytt uttryck, ?kommunikativa uttryck? eftersom det på ett bra sätt fångar upp det man vill uppnå med det vidgade textbegreppet. Metoden som har använts för detta har varit att jämföra de tre första kapitlen i vart och ett av läromedlen, Straight Forward English 5(Harling et al, 2006), Blueprint A version 2.0(Lundfall et al, 2008) samt Core English 1 (Gustafsson et al, 2008). Materialet har jämförts ur två aspekter; dels vilka typer av kommunikationsuttryck som förekommer i texterna, dels vilka instruktioner som har återfunnits i läromedlen och lärarhandledningarna för att bearbeta de olika kommunikationsuttrycken. Arbetet har kommit fram till två viktiga slutsatser. Den första slutsatsen är att många olika kommunikationsuttryck finns representerade i de tre första kapitlen i läromedlen Straight Forward English 5 (Harling et al, 2006), Blueprint A version 2.0 (Lundfall et al, 2008) och Core English 1(Gustafsson et al, 2008). Dock är de övningar som finns med för att bearbeta dessa kommunikationsuttryck i första hand där för att fördjupa elevernas förståelse av texterna.

Under förskoleåren behöver barn utveckla en förståelse för tal, lika väl som de måste erövra det talade språket. Barns möjligheter att lära matematik påverkas av hur deras första möte med matematiken ser ut.Uppsatsen är en fallstudie vars syfte är att beskriva hur The English School i Älmhult, arbetar med taluppfattning. För att kunna ge en så fyllig bild som möjligt har vi genomfört observationer och intervjuat de två lärarna som arbetar med denna åldersgrupp samt intervjuat skolans rektor. Vi har även tittat närmare på de styrdokument som, förutom Lpfö 98, ligger till grund för verksamheten.Vi har mött en verksamhet där matematiken lyfts fram och fokuseras på redan i tidig ålder. The topic of the present paper is to investigate and identify how two translators, Reginald Horace Blyth and David Landis Barnhill, differ in their translation of Japanese haikus by Matsuo Bashô to English. Three focal points of the study are; the translation of haiku rythm, the translation of kireji (a word for separating the haiku) and the translation of kigo (seasonal word). These three components are fundamental parts of Japanese haiku poetry and haiku experience, however there are no set rules on how to translate these haiku components to English. This study contains a comparative detailed analysis of five of Bashô´s haikus, in translation by Blyth and Barnhill. Sample haikus were selected from Blyth´s books A History of Haiku Vol.

Andraspråksundervisning är en vital del av många elevers skolgång. I Thailand har detta aktualiserats, i och med att en ekonomisk gemenskap med engelska som huvudspråk är på väg att skapas av länder i regionen. Engelskkunskaperna är generellt bristfälliga i landet och den thailändska regeringen har därför utarbetat ett åtgärdsprogram, the English Speaking Year 2012 Program. Programmet antas leda till förändringar i skolorna som på sikt ska göra invånarna betydligt bättre på engelska. Syftet med examensarbetet var att undersöka engelskundervisningen vid en thailändsk grundskola som jobbar utifrån the English Speaking Year 2012 Program. Det avsågs att identifiera om åtgärdsprogrammet lett till förändringar i undervisningen och även åskådliggöra eventuella förändringar.
