Den tigrerade svenskheten : konstruktionen av en ?svensk? identitet i Jonas Hassen Khemiris roman Montecore: En unik tiger
This paper is about the construction of a ?Swedish? identity in the novel Montecore: en unik tiger by Jonas Hassen Khemiri (translated in English to Montecore: the silence of the tiger). In the paper I start by, after a short introduction, introducing the theoretical background against which the novel will be analyzed. The main focus is postcolonial theories with Edward Saids work about making ?the Other? as a base.
En undersökning åt IKEA om ungdomars syn på inredning och design
The purpose is to improve IKEA´s understanding of how their target group of 12 to 18 years old boys and girls thinks when they visit the showrooms in the department stores. What make them enter the showrooms? Is it the colours, the furniture or the whole concept? How are they inspired to furnish their own room? Do they get ideas from the showrooms or are they looking for a specific furniture? These types of questions have increased young people´s interest for design and decoration over the last decade. It transpires with help from an article written by Vittorio Girotto and Michel Gonzalez how children are influenced in an early age by their own temperament and their natural surroundings. Children reasons and acts according to what they believe adults would have done in a similar situation.The methods that have been used during this project are interviews, surveys, observations, hypothetical persona, persona and ABL (IKEA´s own method).
English, please! Elevers upplevelser av sin egen engelskundervisning
BAKGRUND:Kursplanen ligger till grund för verksamheten i skolan och även till den här undersökningen. I globaliseringens tid är engelska ett viktigt ämne för kommunikationen i framtiden, såväl internationellt som privat. Språkinlärningen bygger på olika saker men som nybörjare är det till fördel att först lära sig viktiga ord som man har användning för och ord som lärs in i ett sammanhang. För att utveckla språket har det visat sig vara en positiv effekt att leka, då det kräver att man använder språket och då i förlängningen utvecklar sitt eget.SYFTE:Syftet är att försöka förstå hur eleverna upplever sin engelskundervisning och sin lärandemiljö. Genom observationer och intervjuer ger det en mer nyanserad bild av hur språkundervisningen ser ut i just den aktuella klassen.METOD:Metoden som användes i denna undersökning var observationer och intervjuer.

Hihi puss ;* : En studie av SMS-språket hos svenska högstadieungdomar
This study is about language use in text messaging. In this study there are 338 text messages: 206 of them written by girls and 132 written by boys. The informants in the study are 16 years old and they live in the countryside on the outskirts of a small town in southern Sweden. The purpose of this study was to investigate characteristic linguistic features in the messages, in order to determine what significant meaning an emoticon such as a smiley brings to a text and further, to explore what speech acts smileys occur in.The results show that the language in the messages is a mix of spoken and written language. The characteristic features that were found in the messages were short sentences, onomatopoetic expressions, words written in capital letters, English expressions and use of smileys.

We have interviewed three adults with the diagnosis of Asperger syndrome with the aim to let them tell us about what it means to have a neuropsychiatric disability.

The purpose of this study is to investigate childrens possibilities to retrieve information by searching in searching engines designed for children. Two such search engines are examined: Yahooligans and Kids Click, both of which index pages in English only. I have compared Yahooligans with its equivalence for adults; Yahoo, by evaluating the retrieval effectiveness. Some functions in Kids Click and in Yahooligan are investigated. Seven class room studies are described in the prior research chapter.
Effektiv ordinlärning? : En studie av aktiv ordinlärning i engelska inom gymnasieskolan
The purpose of this essay is to discuss and compare different ways of learning new words and expanding your vocabulary in a foreign language. This is done by an examination of relevant literature and available research, as well as by an empirical study with two upper secondary school classes, in which two different methods are put to the test: one traditional method of the kind that is found to be most common in second language acquisition, and one designed to take existing research into account. The results show that, although effective in the initial stages of acquisition, the traditional method, where words are learned in isolation and via translation to L1, results in a very limited form of knowledge. A big part of the words acquired via this method is also forgotten soon afterwards. The other method, where words were learned and tested in its proper context, was found to result in a broader form of vocabulary knowledge, covering more aspects, and that remained over time.

The purpose of this Bachelor?s thesis is to explore the useability of bibliometric analysis on scientists of the humanities. This is accomplished by doing a case study on philosopher Slavoj ?i?ek. The work process and the results the case study is able to produce and the limits of these results are then analysed and discussed.In the case study all scientific articles in English published 1987-2010 citing ?i?ek were analysed.

The main question asked is whether rules for bills of lading should be applied to electronic transport records, or if they should be treated according to general rules. A secondary question is asked; partially to help put the main question into context and partially to see whether the different legal regimes will lead to different solutions to an issue. This second question is if electronic transport records can effect the transfer of property (sv. sakrätt).
Det mångspråkiga skolbiblioteket : En viktig fråga i teorin men en icke-fråga i praktiken?
While almost 23 percent of the students in the Swedish upper secondary school are foreigners, only a fraction of the school libraries? collections consists of literature written in other languages than Swedish or English. This study examines how five school librarians experience the task of working with literature composed in foreign languages in the multicultural and multilingual school of today. The results of the qualitative interviews are analyzed in relation to the legislation and policy documents that the school libraries are working by, and also in relation to the theoretical framework of sociocultural theory and the theories on second language acquisition developed by linguist Jim Cummins.The study shows that while multilingualism is discussed as an important matter in the legislation and policy documents that the school libraries work by, the librarians in this study largely view the question of foreign literature as peripheral. Most part of the librarians connects first language reading to leisure-time activities rather than curricular activities, and stresses that the Swedish language should be prioritized in Swedish schools.
Omhändertagande samt bemötande av suicidnära och självskadande patienter i det akuta skedet i somatisk vård : En litteraturstudie
The aim of this literature review was to elucidate how suicidal and self-harming patients should be treated and cared for, mainly in the acute phase in somatic care. Searches were conducted in databases with relevant keywords. Qualitative and quantitative articles were included, would not be more than 20 years, be written in Swedish or English, and match the aim of the study. Results showed that nurses and patients felt that the treatment would be respectful, non-judgmental and characterized by active listening and clear communication. Poor care was described as disrespect and lack of understanding.

The aim of this study is to study the construction of literary values. I have been looking at how literature awarded with sponsored literary prizes has been reviewed in four major English and American newspapers. I have been studying the reception of literature by Ian McEwan, Hilary Mantel, Colm Tóibín and Zadie Smith between 2000 and 2012. The prizes in focus are the Man Booker Prize, the Orange prize for fiction and the Costa Awards. There seems to be an increasing number of articles related to each author after they have been awarded a prize, however with little change in the content of the reviews.
Vi "speakar Svengelska". Engelskans inflytande på inlärning av svenska/svenska som andraspråk i en engelskspråkig grundskola
Syfte: Syftet med denna undersökning är att kartlägga en del av engelskans påverkan på skriftligt uttryck i svenska språket hos elever på en engelskspråkig skola i svensk miljö, The English School (ESG) i Göteborg. Teori: Undersökningen avser att belysa en specifik språklig inlärningssituation. Den är en fallstudie med kvantitativ ansats och en empirisk - atomistisk analys där några specifika grammatiska och lexikala detaljer samt fritt skriven text studeras.Metod: Enkäter och textanalys i tre grupper om tjugo elever vardera i årskurs 9.Resultat: Analysen visar ett mycket stort engelskt inflytande på ESG-elevernas skriftliga språkanvändning i ett litet antal avgränsade formmoment i svenskan. Engelskan tycks här orsaka vissa typer av formfel som inte visar sig i kontrollgrupperna, oavsett vilket modersmål eleverna har. Det finns inget som tyder på att ESG-eleverna skulle uppvisa generellt sämre resultat i svenska än jämnåriga i svensk kommunal skola ? snarare tvärtom - men det är tydligt att de som har ett annat modersmål än engelska eller svenska har svårare att nå riktigt bra resultat och för många av de elever som kommer sent in i skolan uppstår problem att nå målen..
Dyslexi : en studie av en skolas arbete med dyslexi
Syftet med den här studien var att undersöka, belysa och exemplifiera hur en svensk grundskola arbetar med elever som har dyslexi, dels i generella termer, dels med inriktning mot engelskundervisningen, vad gäller stöttning, hjälpmedel, bedömning och betygssättning samt i vilken mån den undersökta skolans dyslexiarbete harmonierar med styrdokumentens föreskrifter. För att kunna undersöka det valda området användes semi-strukturerade intervjuer med tre lärare och en specialpedagog på skolan. Intervjuerna sammanställdes och analyserades. Resultaten på studien visade att skolan arbetar medvetet för att underlätta för elever med dyslexi genom hjälpmedel och nivågrupperingar, men att lärarna ändå till stor del står frågande när det gäller vilka metoder som fungerar bäst, hur de ska handla vid misstanke om dyslexi samt bedömning och betygssättning. Resultaten visade också att engelska är ett ämne som lärarna och specialpedagogen upplever som extra svårt för elever med dyslexi. Under engelskundervisningen arbetar lärarna dock inte annorlunda med elever som har dyslexi, trots att det ämnet anses som svårare. De anser sig inte ha verktygen..
