Abstract:Perennials in public areas have during the latest decades been more and more popular. This group of plants has become a more accepted komponent when creating pleasant public places, and people begin to see the functional aspects. Perennials do also give a colour- and senceexperience in a more detailed way than can be achieved with only trees and shrubs. One of the ojects of this essay is to give more examples of motives for using perennials in urban areas.Having in mind the increasing use of perennials, you can expect a growing need for better understading of how to create successfull perennial plantings. In spite of the increasing interest it is hard to find any written information in this subject.

Rikliga naturtillgångar och bördig jord gör Brasilien till ett land med mycket bra förutsättningar för jordbruk. Dess totala odlade area överskrids endast av Australien, Kina och USA. Under senare tid har landet genomgått flera betydande handelsliberaliseringar och övergått från importsubstitution till en mer exportorienterad policy. Från och med 1990-talet har Brasilien ökat sin export inom jordbrukssektorn och på senare tid har exporttillväxten varit så pass hög att den kan liknas vid en exportboom. Syftet med denna uppsats är att undersöka Brasiliens senaste exportutveckling och dess komparativa fördelar i deras främsta exportprodukter inom jordbrukssektorn.

Uppsatsen ser till vad som sker med inflationen och produktionsgapet (skillnaden mellan den faktiska produktionen och den potentiella produktionen) när en centralbank blir självständigare genom att Rogoff-konservatism införs. Första delen av uppsatsen avhandlar två modeller inom detta monetära ämne och huvudfokus ligger på den nykeynesianska modellen. Efter en redogörelse för modellens uppbyggnad ses hur Rogoff-konservatism påverkar en ekonomi om det finns inflation bias och därefter vad som sker med chockstabiliseringen om centralbanken blir självständigare. Den andra delen behandlar centralbanker i empirin och visar på centralbankers självständighet i förhållande till inflationen, variansen för inflationen, produktionsgapet och variansen för produktionsgapet. Teorin menar att om det finns inflation bias medför Rogoff-konservatism till lägre inflation och chockstabiliseringen blir bättre.

Producing a building is a long and complex process. It consists of several parts, from the feasibility study and design stage onto the construction and finally the management of the building. The design process is a critical part of the process where construction plans are made. The quality of the plans affect the production phase in great extent and faulty plans can pose a risk for extra costs for all parts in the process. The cost of producing dwellings has increased the last years and the detail design process is one of many phases where improvements can mean cost savings within the whole building process.This report aims to point at parts within the detail design process which could be more efficient, regarding communication, follow-up and time planning, and to give suggestions for improvements.

In the light of ever increasing international trade around the globe, affecting men and women in all countries, it is surprising that so little attention is given its gender effects. The effects of trade are said to be gender neutral, but could potentially act reinforcing on the existing gender patterns in a society. The aim of this thesis is to examine whether the implications for men and women in relation to trade liberalization can be found to differ. By stylizing some differences between men and women, this is done by examining the theoretical implications mainly via the Heckscher-Ohlin model and through a Beckerian approach. The implications found are then compared with the findings in existing empirical work.

I detta arbete behandlas det osäkrade ränteparitetssambandet. Resultaten från ränteparitetssambandet kan kategoriseras i två olika typer av resultat beroende på periodlängden. För perioderna med längre löptid kan man inte bevisa att sambandet håller helt och hållet men man kan vissa på att sambandet har en tydlig signifikans och påverkan på växelkursen. För de kortare tidsperioderna presterar räntesambandet betydligt sämre. Förutom att sambandet inte håller så visar valutakurserna på rörelser som är åt motsatt riktning än vad räntesambandet förutsäger.

I denna uppsats har vi med samhällsekonomisk analys studerat följderna av ett införande av nolltaxa inom kollektivtrafiken. I kommunen Kristinehamn erbjöds gratis busstrafik under år 1997-2001, och med utgångspunkt från detta projekt har vi undersökt de samhällsekonomiska effekterna. Målet med införandet var att sänka kostnaderna för färdtjänst- och skolskjutsverksamhet samt att minska de negativa externa effekterna av biltrafiken. Till följd av den högre uppfångningsgraden av resenärer uppnåddes lönsamhet i stadstrafiken, men ej i landsortstrafiken. Konsekvenser av skattefinansiering, såsom snedfördelning och dödviktskostnader, implicerar dock att ett ekonomisk-politiskt ställningstagande för eller emot statliga ingripanden, måste tas vid utvärderingen av projektet.

The purpose of this essay is to acquire variables that explain and may be used as a base for wage estimation in the private sector in Sweden. The factors that are assumed to have an impact on wage estimation are based on earlier Swedish and international studies. Business survey data, which is based upon monthly questions to firms in various sectors of the Swedish economy posed by the Swedish National Institute of Economic Research, will be analyzed to find out weather they have an impact on Swedish wage settings or not. Tests including business survey data are yet rarely frequent, why this essay will be some kind of a pioneer within the area. To estimate significant factors that influence wage setting in Sweden, three different wage equations have been modeled and tested with a regression model.

In today?s competitive market, design is an important element for the companies. They must succeed with delivering an increased value and an experience for the consumer to be able to survive. The Swedish company?s have become better in the design area, the higher standards the consumer?s demands forces the company to invest more in design.

Durban, South Africa?s third-largest city is a socially segregated post apartheid society, struggling with high unemployment and AIDS. The city becomes even more complex with a changing climate, creating an influx of people to the city, putting scarce resources under further stress. Warwick Junction, an important transport hub in the centre of Durban, holds a large site of informal trading alongside the formal markets. This informal sector generates large financial flows and provides for a rapidly growing population. The aim of this thesis is to develop an approach that is realistic and relevant to planning and design of an urban context in South Africa.

Vattkoppor räknas till en av våra klassiska barnsjukdomar. Sjukdomen är i sig relativt ofarlig, men leder till stora produktionsförluster för samhället då individer tvingas vara hemma från arbetet på grund av vård av barn eller sjukskrivning. I flera länder, såsom USA och Tyskland, har man undkommit problemet med stora produktionsförluster genom att införa allmän barnvaccination mot vattkoppor. Denna vaccination har då bara lagts till det redan existerande barnvaccinationsprogrammet i landet. Syftet med denna uppsats är att, utifrån en cost-benefit analys, undersöka vilka ekonomiska effekter införandet av allmän barnvaccination mot vattkoppor skulle leda till i Sverige.

Free Space Optics (FSO) has received a great deal of attention lately both in the military and civilian information society due to its potentially high capacity, rapid deployment, portability and high security from deception and jamming. The main issue is that severe weather can have a detrimental impact on the performance, which may result in an inadequate availability. This report contains a feasibility study for an all-optical free-space link intended for short-range communication (200-500 m). Laboratory tests have been performed to evaluate the link design. Field tests were made to investigate availability and error performance under the influence of different weather conditions.

Generiskt utbyte infördes i Sverige 2002 och innebär att läkemedel på recept automatiskt byts ut mot billigaste likvärdiga alternativ på apoteken. I uppsatsen analyseras reformens effekter på kostnad och konkurrens efter patentutgång och vad dessa kan ha inneburit för effektiviteten på den svenska läkemedelsmarknaden. Det empiriska materialet utgörs av 15 storsäljande läkemedel som tappat patent under perioden 2000-2004, varav 4 före och 11 efter reformen. Resultatet av analysen tyder på att den generiska konkurrensen har ökat avsevärt och att kostnaderna för de läkemedel som tappade patent efter reformen är betydligt lägre. Samtidigt har prisskillnader mellan generika och originalpreparat ökat, vilket bidragit till att begränsa förlusten i intäkter för originaltillverkare.

This degree project summarizes five years of education at the landscape architecture program at the Swedish University of Agriculture Sciences, SLU, Alnarp and the School of architecture at Royal Institute of Technology, KTH, Stockholm. The project has been carried out by Lovisa Berg and Per Crona in collaboration with DRIFT Scenkonst. This master project is based on the ongoing transformation of a former mining site in Ställberg, Bergslagen situated in central Sweden. The organization DRIFT is in the process of recreating to former industrial mining site as a green cultural center. Their field of artistic examination concerns existential questions connected to the site. The aim is to offer a place for both performing and experiencing contemporary performing arts in Bergslagen. Our objective is to contribute to the growth of the performing arts project and to demonstrate in concrete terms how a conversion of a mining area can be completed, while taking into account both its history and its new function.
