Evaluation of an ectomycorrhizal macrofungi as an indicator species of high conservation value pine-heath forests in northern Sweden
Since the 1950s, the development of modern rotation forestry in boreal Fennoscandia has resulted in a severe reduction of older forests, and a high degree of fragmentation among the small patches that remains of old forest. In Sweden, when performing conservation value assessments in order to identify and preserve the remaining forest habitats, the government authorities use to a significant extent a set of indicator species that indicate habitats of high biological conservation value. One species considered to indicate high conservation values in pine-heath forests is the red-listed ectomycorrhizal (EM) macrofungi Sarcodon scabrosus (Fr.) P. Karst. This thesis is made on behalf of SCA's Forestry Division and is a comparison of two bucking simulation tools: Aptan (manufactured by Skogforsk) and Best/upr (from Berget Systemdesign). The data is based on 32 stands from SCA's forests in Norrbotten and Västerbotten. The objective is to compare the simulations created by the tools with the harvested volumes from those stands. Three variables are needed for the bucking simulation; these are the diameter distribution (at breast height), the relationship function between diameter and height, and the taper coefficients. The volumes of five different assortments from the stands are compared.
Polstjärnan. Ett fastighetsutvecklingsprojekt
Efter att ha ägt fastigheterna benämnda som Polstjärnan, belägna i stadsdelen Lindholmen på Norra Älvstranden i Göteborg, under många år ställs Wallenstam nu vid ett vägskäl. Med byggnader som åldrats och ett område som utvecklas ifrån dem växte fastighetsutvecklingsprojektet Polstjärnan fram.Syftet med arbetet är således att utreda en framtida utvecklingsplan för fastigheterna som är väl förankrad i området Lindholmen och kvarteret Polstjärnegatan-Karlavagnsgatan. Till att börja med ville jag få en bild av Lindholmen ser ut och vad det finns för planer för fortsatt utveckling i området. Därför kontaktade jag Johan Altenius, planarkitekt på stadsbyggnadskontoret i Göteborg och Anna Eckerstig, byggprojekt och verksamhetsansvarig på Chalmers Fastigheter.För att sedan skapa en gällande utgångspunkt för arbetet har flera personer på Wallenstam intervjuats. I dessa intervjuer har de fått ge sin bild av fastigheterna, dess historik och tidigare tankar på vidare utveckling.

This final thesis is performed on commission of Hargs Bruk Ltd. Hargs Bruk manages one of Sweden?s largest privately owned forests. A main part of the managed forest is situated in Roslagen in eastern Uppland. Since 1934 felling calculations have been performed within the estate every tenth year.
Överlevnad, tillväxt och skador i planteringar av sitkagran (Picea sitchensis) efter stormen Gudrun
Sitka spruce (Picea sitchensis (Bong.) Carr) is just like Norway spruce (Picea abies) a species in thegenus picea. The natural range of Sitka spruce is a narrow strip along the west coast of North America. Itis the most coastal of all picea species, and very dependent on the mild and humid climate along thepacific coast.Sitka spruce has been grown a long time in the countries around the North Sea, particularly in GreatBritain where it currently is the most important species in British forestry. Sitka spruce has not beenplanted in Swedish forests to any large extent before the storm Gudrun in 2005. Several studies indicatethat the production of wood biomass is higher for Sitka spruce compared to Norway spruce.
Behandling av konfliktbestånd - problem och möjligheter :
Overdue cleanings have for a long time been an important topic of discussion within the forestry sector. When stands that have not been pre-commercially thinned are reaching the level of commercial thinning, many problems occur in terms of decision-making and economical outcomes. These types of stands are commonly known as conflict-stands.
The work was carried out partly as an interview survey towards representatives from the forest sector and the energy sector, partly as a case study of conflict-stands situated in Böksholm, north of Växjö and in Tönnersjö east of Halmstad. The criteria for the studied stands were that they had to be dominated by Norway spruce and be in a severe status of ?conflict?.
The aim of the interview was to get an overview of the situation today, and also analyse trends in terms of conflict stands.

In the end of 1998 the company Holmen Skog AB was certified accordint to the FSC system
with an area of 1 036 000 hectare. After that Holmen Skog AB has been working actively
with the nature conservation in the forestry. In order to control the quality of the company?s
nature conservation in final fellings they started a yearly inventory which is called BAKRUS
(Judgement of ecological and culture care in relations to policies for a persevering
silviculture). After 1999 the control was expended to include all actions in the forest.

Agriculture buildings and forestry plots are not examined.
Vindfällning, tillväxt och plantuppslag i en 13-årig granskärm i Medelpad :
The interest for alternative forest regeneration methods increased significantly during the 1990´s after 50 years dominance of the clear-cutting system (Holgén & Hånell 2000). One reason for this was that clear-cutting was being more and more questioned by different envi-ronmental organizations and because the forest sector for economical reasons wanted to find cheaper ways to regenerate forests. In the beginning of the 1990´s two shelterwood experi-ments were established in a joint effort by Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget (SCA) and the Dept of Silviculture, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU). The experiments include various forms of cutting and shelterwood densities and represent productive spruce forests in central and north Sweden (Roggsjön in the province of Medelpad and Skikkis-jöberg in the province of Västerbotten, respectively ). The experiment next to Roggsjön has been reported earlier in three MSc theses, and is also the focus of this thesis.

The intensity of cleaning declined dramatically in the early 1990?s in the Swedish forests.
Recession, an economic depressed forestry and the new law of silviculture from 1993, where
the duty of cleaning was removed have been considered as sources to the decline. This has led to a situation where huge areas of forests are untouched, which can lead to negative effects for those stands in the future.
The purpose of this thesis was to find out how the individual landowner acts and feel when it concerns cleaning activities. Has the landowner noticed Södra?s campaigns about cleaning and what sort of measure should Södra implement to increase the members? cleaning activity?
The thesis is based on a opinion poll made through a random draw among all Södra?s members.
Framtida turisttrender och landsbygdsturism : en omvärldsanalys av Frölunda-Aspvik Säteris företagsidé
Frölunda-Aspvik Säteri, a company just outside Stockholm within the agriculture and forestry sector, has developed a business idea around countryside tourism as a complement to their existing business. The idea is to offer a high quality and functional way of living in small cottages surrounded by beautiful nature and landscape of cultural importance. There will also be a range of additional activities available such as hunting, canoeing, cycling etc. The project should be done with minimum impact on the surrounding environment and the importance of the ecological system should be at the forefront of all business decisions. At present the company wants to have a better understanding of what the future trends are within tourism, how its business idea fits in with future trends within tourism and how to stay competitive.The purpose of this research paper is to identify the social driving forces that have an impact on people?s lifestyle and choice of holiday destination in the future, and present how these factors affect the travel industry.
Ägarkategorins och andra faktorers inverkan på skogsfastigheters pris vid försäljning
Sverige består av ungefär 23 miljoner hektar av produktiv skogsmark. Detta innebär att drygt 50 % av landarealen utgörs av skogsmark. Den produktiva skogsmarken är uppdelad mellan olika ägarkategorier, där fysisk person (enskilda ägare) äger 50 % och juridisk person, såsom staten, aktiebolag, ekonomiska föreningar och dylikt, äger övriga 50 % av skogsmarken. Denna fördelning av skogsmarken mellan olika ägarkategorier tros inverka på den skogliga fastighetsmarknaden och en prisdifferens beroende på om fastigheten säljs av juridisk eller fysisk person antas existera. Anledningen till differensen tros bero på bland annat lagstiftning, skötsel och ekonomiska aspekter såsom utbud och efterfrågan på marknaden.
Studiens huvudsyfte var att analysera hur faktorn ägarkategori, där säljaren av skogsfastigheterna delades upp i juridisk person och fysisk person, påverkade skogsfastigheternas köpeskilling.
Clover (Trifolium spp) gamefields : forage production, utilization by ungulates and browsing on adjacent forest
Wildlife is a valuable and renewable resource that promotes economical, ecological and social values. These values are important for developing and maintaining many rural societies. However, growing ungulate populations have led to increased browsing pressure on valuable forest trees and crops. Previous studies have proposed supplementary feeding and gamefields as potential methods for controlling the ungulate foraging and reducing browsing damage by providing other attractive food resources. However, quantitative estimates of potential biomass production of various gamefield crops and browsing pressure on the surrounding forest have been lacking.
Svenska skogsinvesteringar i Baltikum : Omfattning, investeringsmotiv och skogliga skillnader mellanländerna
Uppsatsen beskriver omfattningen av svenska skogsinvesteringar i Estland, Lettlandoch Litauen. Studien kartlägger även de största aktörerna, investeringsmotiv ochsignifikanta skillnader i skogliga förutsättningar i de olika länderna.Eftersom vi inte har funnit tidigare studier av svenska skogsinvesteringar i något avdessa länder, har studien baserats på officiell statistik och faktauppgifter,litteraturstudier, intervjuer, e-postkommunikation, samt information frånwebbplatser. Vi har även genomfört intervjuer i form av en enkät med utvaldaskogsägare.Resultat och analys innehåller en beskrivning av de skogliga parametrarna förrespektive land, en sammanställning av enkätsvar, samt uppgifter omskogsmarkspriser i Baltikum.Baserat på vår uppskattning omfattar de svenska skogsinvesteringarna i Baltikum ca300 000 ha, varav 150 - 200 000 ha i Lettland, ca 100 000 ha i Estland och ca 30 000ha i Litauen. Detta motsvarar ca 4 % av skogsarealen i Baltikum.Bland skogsbolagen är de största aktörerna Bergvik Skog, Södra Skogsägarna,Tornator och Skogssällskapet som totalt äger 115 000 ha. Bland investeringsfondernaär SPP & Storebrand och Europeiska Skogsfonden störst och blandprivatpersoner/företag är t.ex.
