Extern granskning av medicinska bilder, framtidens lösning?

In 2009 transgendered persons were included in the Swedish law against discrimination. Prior to the inclusion a commission made an investigation of the necessity of such change in the law and how it could be designed. This essay focuses on the Discourses regarding gender that appear in the law and the report written by the commission. Using theories by Judith Butler and Discourse analysis inspired by Norman Fairclough it identifies two main Discourses regarding gender: a two gender Discourse and a queer Discourse. The two Discourses meet in the studied material in an antagonistic way, a conflict that is solved by separating the two and making one part of the law focus on gender and one on transgender.

Global climate change is one of the greatest challenges in our history. As the average temperature is rising due to anthropogenic emissions, impacts such as floods, droughts and hurricanes, affect the lives of millions of people. By outlining the adaptation Discourse from the United Framework Convention on Climate Change principles, to the Marrakesh Accords, via the Kyotoprotocol my ambition is to analyse how environmental justice has been interpreted in relation to the adaptation Discourse.

The main questions were: can different Discourses on honour killing be identified, and if so, have they changed over time, and are there differences between the Discourses identified in the daily press and in Socionomen? The method used was a qualitative analysis of Discourse influenced by Faircloughs Critical Discourse Analysis. The main conclusion was that honour killing has been textually constructed as a social problem in the studied media. There was one main Discourse which clearly pointed out groups as bearers and victims of the social problem.

Vägen till jämställdhet - Kvinnor i styrelserum eller män i förskolan? : En kritisk analys av den svenska jämställdhetsdiskursen

Equality between the sexes has been discussed in Sweden for more than 50 years. In the 60´s and during the 70´s the Discourse that dominated the debate was based on the assumption that both men and women needed to liberate themselves from their traditional gender roles. During the 80´s however, power and subordination became the main focal point of concern within this debate, and focus upon changing the patriarchal power structures dominating society were perceived as the principal key for establishing equality between the sexes. Today, the latter Discourse still dominates both the scientific and the political perspective upon equality.

Skönlitteratur på svenska folkbibliotek: En diskursanalys

The view on which kind of fiction that should be mediated to the public through the Swedish public library system has since the late 60´s been dominated by what in this Master?s thesis is called: ´the Discourse on quality of literary fiction´. The aim of this thesis is to examine to which extent this Discourse still plays an active role in the Swedish public library system or if that Discourse has been replaced by a more market-led, demand responsive view, where the features of ´quality´ and ´culture´ have been downplayed and replaced by a ´customer?s service view´ on how and why fiction should be mediated to the public. The methodological and theoretical perspective in this thesis is led by the understanding of the Discourse analysis in Michel Foucault?s ´The Archaeology of Knowledge´.

Blir dubbel verksamhet dubbel upplevelse? : En studie om upplevelser i kombinationsbutiker

The purpose with this work is to describe the language that is built around the chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) in Sweden. Our questions are: What does the professional field look like; who writes, about what and for which kind of readers? How do they describe the expressions and the upcoming of CFS? For which reasons can CFS be considered as a medical diagnosis/illness? How can CFS be understood from a social perspective? Our theoretical starting point is a social constructive theory and also Karin Johannisson's theory about medicalization and Foucault?s theory about power. We have from a literature-exposition of Swedish articles from 1989 to 2006, done a social constructive Discourse analysis with help from Laclau & Mouffe's Discourse theory, and Fairclough's model of social practices. In our textual analysis we found three dominating Discourses: A medical Discourse, a social/cultural Discourse and a general/popular Discourse.
